- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- Stars: Chester Morris, Jean Parker, Rose Hobart
Director: Frank McDonald
The first of three Pine-Thomas productions for Chester Morris finds him as wise-cracking private detective Humphrey Campbell who impresses his boss, Oscar Flack, no end by not only finding a missing girl but also marrying her in the process. So Flack sends him to celebrate his honeymoon in the Divorce Capital of the world, Reno, Nevada, to find a missing man. Along the way, in a mixture of big city crime and old-west settings, Humphrey encounters a large assortment of suspicious characters, all of whom are also suspicious of the others. A comedy that also includes some killings along the way.
Absolutely love this movie!!! Chester Morris is always great thank you
I have only just realised that it is real technical art for actors to talk on the phone when there is no one on the other end.
most of the comments are 2-3 years ago.....but l still enjoy reading them....
I had forgotten about the old "turn out the lights before the reveal" trick until I saw a couple of these classic mysteries again. What fun!
'revelation' not 'reveal'
Well that sure was a complicated one. And that new wife of his would be a nightmare too. Love these old films though, they are all about the story.
Jean Parker and Jean Arthur are so close, in my opinion, to eachother in looks and voice.
I really enjoyed this movie! What a hoot!!
Thank you for the Movies, !!!
I love Chester Morris
Some of the hats in the 30's and 40's are very creative, but this heroine's is the silliest ever.
Another fine movie❤🎉
A young Milburn Stone (Doc Adams, Gunsmoke) played the head FBI man.
And Gunsmoke's Doc to boot.
Through the 1st half of the movie, I'd been hating on Jean Parker's "Pocahontas" hat, and then @38:19.
Policial B da Paramount, lançado nos EUA em primeiro de dezembro de 1941. Exibido no Brasil como "A ronda da morte".
Zak guys today is may 5 1944
Crazy hats back then.
Come iscritto mi farebbe piacere vedere i vostri film anche in lingua italiana🙏
Loved the shower scene! Lol
Mary Rozario
look what you did
brilliant
Jean Parker so adorable.
i love these classics ,te crap on todat sucks big time !!! thanks pizza flix!!!!
It is painful to watch Keye Luke play this particularly dumbed-down 'Oriental' character. In real life he was a professionally trained commercial artist of much note, and he produced a lot of the artwork and set designs used in the making of these, and other movies; like the wanted posters or the family member oil portraits. As well as being a tremendous talent in many arenas, he was well known as being hard working, a gentleman, well respected, and liked by all.
Perhaps he wanted to do something different just for fun. He chose to try out for the part, it's not like they forced him to play the part of a an unintelligent Asian character.
Keye alike was one of my all-time favorites.
Luke.
darn autocorrect
81 years ago! Alright, a mere 79 when the OP was made. Geeze!
@@a.mariedixon-jenkins I agree - but only to a point. Roles for non white actors were very limited. If Luke wanted to act, he probably had few roles to choose from.
The cars, the clothes, the way ppl carried themselves, the way they talked. It’s like another world 🌍 Awesome.
Actors in Hollywood at the time were groomed, in dressing, talking, walking, moving about by experts. What you see in a movie is an idealization of how people should be and behave, but not the actual general population's behavior.
People get on RUclips and make dumb comments about what they know nothing about that happened 90 years ago or a million years ago. Think about it, maybe wealthy and talented people invented recording devices and made films with family members. Hollywood was an orange grove at that time. People today push agendas to cover up crimes, to the point that it gets obvious.
@@suebruce493 you’re entitled to your thoughts, and I am too. I prefer my own.
@@undomiel152003 Yes, people should never assume that anything they see in movies is an accurate reflection of reality.
@@undomiel152003 The people I grew up with from that generation did in fact act and dress with class kindness and dignity even more so than these old movies.
Chester Morris was the class of actor in the quality of screenplays you'll Never see again. As a kid in the fifties he was my favorite ❤ on TV......he was what men used to be....
I really love these old movies Thank you for uploading them
Wow, that's style! In 1942 bank robbers wore suits, ties and hats!
They said Thank You too. 😂
I did the same thing in 1988, including the fedora hat that my grandpa when he robbed one in 1937
Love these classic black & white movies from the thirties, forties, and fifties.
The lead FBI agent was Milburn Stone who played Doc Adams for 20 years on Gunsmoke. He had many uncredited roles in his early career, like this one.
Fantastic movie....somebody needs to start make black and white movies in the same manner fashion as they did in the 30's 40's 50's and the 60's now in 2020....that's how much I love them movies.
Luv Louise ( Jean Parker ) for Her Sensational Slapstick Shower Scene @ 26:40 !! She is Gr8 throughout this movie in a Classical Screwball Comedy tradition reminiscent of the Gr8 Carole Lombard !!
Pizza Flix, thank you for posting this action filled movie. Gosh, newlywed brides really are feisty!
Seen this before but it's so good watched it again !
Really great movie! Except for the darker bits, very pixelated - couldn't even make out what was happening. Great writing and delivery - excellent acting. Looking forward to the other two (hope you got 'em!). Thanks! 🍕 💗
I fast forwarded,
Excellent movie I enjoyed it immensely
Love the two single beds supplied for the honeymoon couple at 5:05. Yes, I am so glad my morals haven't been corrupted after watching this terrific movie. Thanks for uploading this, PizzaFlix!
That was the Hays office in Hollywood which was in charge of morals in cinema. Even a married couple was not allowed to be shown in a film inhabiting the same bed, even if that bed was a King Size (which did not exist at that time!).
@@gisawslonim9716 .. Well how Stupid that is, if a couple is Married, the True side of Human Nature Should be Portrayed, like it is 2Day I Don't Mean Portraying Sex tho' that's Freaking Gross Ha!!! :P] .v ..
I would not bet on that.

Guns Guns Guns Guns. A page in NY newspaper lists each week all the shootins. The mayor is a Ballet Dancer. Its called establishment protection at any cost. The people crap in the Mrtro trains. 1000s emails blocked bt F-Book and every account deatroyed cos they are in league with Govt and they fund Universities. The students ? Dare you ask. Maybe you were one.
😆😆😆😆😆😆😁😁😁😁
01:33 - My grandmother always pronounced _Loz - Angle - eez_ even after having lived there for most of her 101 years.
I don't know if Chester Morris could be called a great actor, but liked him as Boston Blackie and look forward to seeing all 3 of the movies in this series as Morris always seemed to be having a good time.
Thanks for sharing, I wish my Mom was still here to share
Action packed. Never a dull moment. Thanks for another great one.
Really like this movie 🍿🎥
Just an opinion of a 61 year old man but I think the actresses then dressed with more class than nowGreat movie and she's funny
They certainly had! And they were better actresses, as well...
As a 63yo man, I agree!
as a 75 yo man i concur
James WERNER I totally agree, & I'm a let's say over 60 woman, women's clothes today are hideous. No class whatsoever , The leggings are so stupid looking so tight, and fat hangs out just everywhere, I think the classy fashions of that day should return, although some of those hats were pretty weird, hats are nice if they werent quite so flashy , the ones with the high feathers, or the ones that look like a box on your head.😃
I find some nice items in upper class stores but you have to really look. Thumbs up to your comments, maybe some women will read them and take the hint. !
Your, opinion is on point ..love the dresses .
That was really entertaining. Fun performances and good twists in the plot. Really fun!👍
Dear PizzaFlix, there is no better way to flake out and forget about lives daily challenges than pizza and a movie :D
Even truer in late March 2020. Because of Covid-19 our state is locked down.
This bank robbery scene.... Who the hell send witnesses out of the bank before the getaway? And even weirder, the folks who got ushered out of the bank... what? they couldn't call the cops? What the heck kind of bank heist was that? ha!
Binyon H it's a comedy
No matter what part Chester Morris played he was always well-dressed and always smiled a lot.
Another great pizzaflix post/production. Many people new to B/w movies don't understand this mov. was wII era. and entertained 1000's in theaters. Directors, cinematographers, costumes, lighting, sound producers and all support make good acting.. end result is a good movie. i'm so sick of reading B movie ratubg.. I've seen 1000's of movies and even the supporting casts can't be reproduced today.. the 70's actors would have been so much better in classic black and white and direction.
I gotta get on the ball and subscribe.. pizzaflix home page is full of stuff I gotta get into. Eat your hearts out hollywodd!
Jeff G I agree black and white is much better for a certain type of movie.Too bad Hollywood doesn’t make them any more.Who done it’s are much better in black and white.
a great comedy to watch
Cute movie. Not that great but definitely entertaining. "What are they shooting out for?" "That hat of yours, they don't like it"!😂
Always love anything Chester Morris plays in, good actor & dressed nicely.

There should have been more movies with the private detective and his new wife
Like the Thin Man series.
Chester Morris ( of Boston Blackie Radio Show fame ) puts on a pretty good show in this flick. People usually go to Reno for a divorce & this is sure a twist !
At 31:03, 33:44, etc. There's supposed to be a Movie Code of Ethics that prohibits the portrayal of Police or other Law enforcement Officers as stupid, bumbling nincompoops. Because it creates a wrong image in the public eye.
I think the Code came about because of the creation of the " Keystone Cops" movies.
The Hays code wasn't just because of the Keystone Cops.
so what happened to it? most cops /FBI are shown as corrupt/racist these days
Great Movie with Chester Morris in the mysterious lead. Wonderful !
Can't see a thing with the night scenes.
An entertaining movie with a good cast headed by Chester Morris and Jean Parker. Chester Morris was well cast in several movies that I have seen - he had a likeable quality about him.
My favorite of his were the Boston Blackie movies.
@@bennieo5gs393 I would agree. I liked him in the Boston Blackie movie series.
I love old movies!!!
What a fine actor Chester Morris, great performance.
Love him forever 🥰💗...
Thank you for this one. I like Chester Morris expressions of exasperation - he is actually a very talented comedic actor. Really miss these older films. Thank you. Cheers.
A gem, fun story, and watching now in 2021 and being a car buff... :D
I'm 35 and just love all these film noir classics
At 40:36, That was a Winchester lever-action repeating rifle. Straight out of the Wild West era. A beautiful weapon, but kinda obsolete by 1941. Maybe the props department made a blooper here.
All the people in this movie are beautifully slim . and the cars are fantastic. AND, this movie is full of life!
Love seeing so many familiar fac
es. I used to watch lots of these old movies on TV on the 1950s. There wasn't much else on. Thanks!
Go1US1Marines
People had televisions back in the 50s?
"That's no lady, that's my wife" on his wedding day! I liked it.
Also a Lyle Lovett song.
His wife was not at all bright, a dumb brunet.
Great mottos for a mortuary:
"It's always Time to Die!",
"Look Death! No hands!"
"Death is to die for!"
"It's never too late to die!"

Hate violins. Also theres rarely any mention of Govt corruption so nothing has changed has it. The BBC in uk has advised us this- Hide the 1000pp evidence abroad. 30000 deths over 35 yrs covered up by establ with help of Police.
Black and white films allowed the talents of lighting directors to show through.
Parts much too dark to see. Starting at 20:00 Cant do just audio and follow the story . March 17, 2020
you want to postpone our honeymoon?
But I want a mink coat
uhh
Chester Morris's features bring to mind the square-jawed strip-cartoon character 'Dick Tracy'.
Awesome film thank you 😊. The woman in the bar's hat makes the feather one look almost chic 😆
Jean Parker (Luise-Stephanie Zelinska) is super cute in this movie. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
+Wallyl Konstanty Evidently not as she was married four times!
+Vintage Vera
My last lady friend was married 5 times. She couldn't help it.
Hi. My mother was born as Lois Mae Green - this version of her name is only a Polish translation.
Dick Purcell plays the "heavy" here. He also played Dick Tracy although Ralph Byrd is more well-known in the role. Apparently, crime does pay.
VERY SILLY FILM THANKYOU I NEEDED THAT LOL
Did anyone recognise Milburn Stone from Gunsmoke? Otherwise, apart from too much darkness, not a bad little film. England, September, 2023.
My grandmother used to like this guy, Morris. I never knew about whom she was speaking--now I do!
Chester was a major star in the 30s.Famous for his profile/chin.
Rod Cameron who played Reed later became a big star. A director described Cameron as the bravest guy he ever knew, after Cameron divorced his wife and married her mother.
james webb
Ekk that is sick
gotta be a good mother in law joke in there somewhere...
You missed the FBI agent...one of them is Milburn Stone, AKA Doc Adams on GUNSMOKE.
Whoah!!! I can't even get my head around that lol
@Joanne Ferguson Usually it's the other way around!
The chemistry is fantastic, think Cary Grant and Irene Dunne.
This movie was apparently made before they invented lighting.
🤣 I was wondering if audiences at the time were as in the dark as well. Thanks for the laugh.
Really good supporting cast in this one.
Another good detective movie! Thanks.
Thanks for the upload man , I dig it !!!
That blonde at the bar - she had the most beauty-full sparkling eyes I have ever seen. !!!!
01:33 - My grandmother always pronounced _Loss - Angle - es_ even after having lived there for most of her 101 years.
these older films beats anything today.
Decent old movie that moves along, though maintaining interest in the plot is difficult.
He has yet to finish a glass of milk 😂
He's only ordering those glasses of milk to look 'cool'.
Enjoyable movie and lots of cute humor throughout.
Good film.
Thankyou for posting.
xx
7:12 "I know a name for you, Oscar, and it isn't _mink_ ... but that's close."
So, what-fink? I'm British, so might be missing something here!
It's fink. Very common back then, and more of an insult. These days it just feels quaint, not biting.
Jean Parker was the best
Boston Blackie fan. Checking out Chester Morris flicks.
I've seen at least PART of this before. Keep watching? Can't recall the end. Yet. And it's fun, so...
Looks like an antenna on her hat at opening of movie lol 😂
I think it's a pheasant tail feather
The lack of hands on the clock has nothing to do with the story. LOL
Now this is pretty good so far I love that sneaking around music sneaking into the house and stuff
I was born 1940.
My beautiful mom loved the movies.
Glad you had a beautiful Mom.
Back when: movies were great, and the big 3 still made business coupes. Released 6 days before "the axe" fell on Hawaii..
LOVE THESE MOVIES THANKS!!
Compare to today's garbage .
"That was no lady, that was my wife" n' ........."the entrance is in front!" "Oh I never use them!"
Chester Morris always a favorite.
At 13:30, The hero asks for milk at the bar and they actually have some!
Now I find that really hard to believe.
Thought that too...maybe to make a drink that uses milk back then? Or more obviously for a cup of joe.
White Russian
Eggnog
Bushwacker
Grasshopper
Tom and Jerry
Banshee
Delce de Leche
And many more
They do have milk in bars. I was not allowed alcohol for a brief period and was advised to drink plenty of milk and I would order mil at the bar.
