Dude why the hell do so many people make dealing with these problems seem so convoluted when you made it seem so simple and straightforward. This video was so helpful
Ken, I bought your course awhile back and I just wanted to share something here. I was not able to use your course after getting it, because my throat would hurt. I tried to figure out what was going on and I could never figure it out. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and I found out from the doctor that I have hypothyroidism. Not only that, but I have a severe case of it that was causing swelling in my neck and face. It also was causing me to have difficulty breathing. It felt like I was always breathing through a very thin straw, and the harder I tried to get more air in, the more I would tense up. I’ve been taking thyroid medication for two weeks now and not only has my breathing improved drastically, but my swelling is completely gone and I can do all sorts of vocal exercises without that pain anymore. I’m so glad I finally figured out what was causing this issue for me and I just wanted to share that here, so maybe I can help somebody else with the same issue. If you have trouble breathing deeply or freely and are tired all the time, among other possible symptoms, then go see your doctor about your thyroid. Your thyroid affects a lot of different things in your body that are all unrelated to each other. So, if you have a lot of issues going on that seem unrelated and you can’t figure out what’s going on, it might be that. I hope this helps someone. It’s definitely changed my life already.
The singing lightly which teaches me that my throat is open then adding resonance and practicing scales worked like magic. I now understand what it means for my throat to be open, ken tamplin is truly an awesome teacher. When I get my job I'm definitely signing up for his course.
Voice must be maintained; by keeping healthy. Exercise every day. Avoid dry throat from too much antihistamine. Know difference chest voice and head voice. have fun and no forcing it!

Ken...you hit the nail on the head! I've been a singing drummer for a long time and probably have done my fair share of damage. I was just singing in the shower to Careless Whisper on RUclips wondering why I was having a hard time. This video was the next video afterwards. Perfect! I really enjoy all that you post and your teachings. Thank you Ken! Troy

Thank you Ken for your help. My sister started to notice improvement in my singing and it's all because of your video that teaches the right things to its viewers. Thanks again!
Being regular church going folk, singing was just a part of everyday worship but I did some real damage to my voice when I was the lead singer of a rock cover band in my teens. Our setlist would include bands like Rage Against the Machine, System of a Down, RHCP, HedPE, The Offspring...and the like. My throat would often hurt and I didn't know the balance between airy and throaty voice. I just wanted to imitate the sound coming out of my speakers I didn't know anything about compression and EQ back then. When James Labrie (Dream Theater) would sing a high note, his tongue would come out of his mouth and he was clearly doing what you were doing here. Being a silly/rebellious teenager I thought it looked uncool then but I wish I had realized then how important it was to learn how to sing correctly doing the techniques you showed here. Thank you!
Golden tips for beginners here. Luckily I have never been hoarse, not even once. Which means I am probably doing something correctly. Sore might happen, if I am overambitious with the extreme high range exercises. I have one of those personalities who easily get caught up in a process and never stop until the result is achieved. But I am learning how to mitigate this desire. The KTVA foundation is really good. Recently I got severe food poisoning and instead of 6 days of practise and 1 resting day I got 6 days mostly in bed and only 1 workout day. When I was good enough to stand up I restarted the program and the voice was still there! Had some issues hearing myself clearly after being sick, but the muscular strength was there as before. I went from bed to the workout. Even hit the C6 on the first day after being sick. So the KTVA course gives you a really strong foundation. If you do it correctly it will not let you down. It's rock solid!

I'm sure by now I'm probably recognized as 'that guy who likes Roy Orbison and has lots of bad questions' lol. Always love the tips and tricks videos! I remember when I first started trying music and I would ask teachers, students, musicians, and anybody else who would listen "how do you sing higher? What does it feel like and how do you work on it? I've noticed i have the habit of just kind of yelling louder rather than actually having pitch control." And everybody would always say "you'll know it once it happens." At this point I have the mindset of 'I've gone through huge improvement over the past couple of years but I don't know for certain if my technique is sound or if I'm doing it safely'. Your videos always help with that.
I don't have them when I'm asleep, but I get a blank space sometimes when I try to sing. Especially if I try to hold a tone or do even a small glide. I've been to an ENT to be scoped and went to speech therapy for several months. They think I may have a paralyzed vocal chord. If I put my hand on my neck I can physically feel my neck jump. I don't want to do botox because it doesn't always work so I'm trying to approach it by paying extra attention to the muscular movements in my neck, posture, and breath support. I tend to have some acid reflux at night so I elevate my head, too. Sorry this is so long, but maybe something will help you. It's very frustrating when I can hit a note dead on, but it quickly sounds like bad uncontrolled vibrato. Good luck to you!
@@olderendirt thanks !! Yes, been to ent and therapy. They think maybe autoimmune related since I have AS as well. I use to be able to hit any note. Still can but every time I try to sing my voice shuts down, eyes and nose starts profusely watering. No sound can come out during these episodes. Does every time. Hoping Ken Tamplin strategies can help
Hey Ken, I had laryngitis about a month ago and I still cannot sing like normal or use any distortion at all. My throat of voice box doesn't hurt at all and I can speak normal but my higher register is affected and my distortion/grit is highly affected, any tips on how to get my voice back?

so essentially, distortion is like putting super-strength fuel in a car engine and if it can't handle the excess power, you risk damaging it? in other words, distortion can be achieved safely over time as your vocal cords strengthen?
@@kentamplin thank you. this video helped me tremendously as i do not have the strength yet to safely distort, but i will slowly incorporate the technique over time.

Amazing lesson, Ken! Cheers from Russia!
Nice! Coolio thanks Kenny. Question....honest question...what's with the tongue? Why do you bring it forward like you are about to stick your tongue out at people?

it's crazy to me that people want to hear distortion, i like it smooth personally.
Can you please react to George Michael and Smokey Robinson’s live performance of careless whisper ???
Mine hurts when trying to sing past my range
🎶...Aaaaaae 🎶 !!
Mine does but my neighbors have even more pain
I have laryngeal spasms. Wakes me up from a dead sleep. :( I would love to find a cure
I can pray for that to go away if you’re interested. 😁🙏

@@KingConan eyes are closed and head is bowed
Mine cramps up, feels like it’s rapidly swelling and that’s within 3 minutes and I just can’t figure out what’s wrong
Training a relaxation response with an open throat helps to minimize throat tension.
Hey Ken, I had laryngitis about a month ago and I still cannot sing like normal or use any distortion at all. My throat of voice box doesn't hurt at all and I can speak normal but my higher register is affected and my distortion/grit is highly affected, any tips on how to get my voice back?
Same! My falsetto is crap now and it’s been almost 3 montjs
Hi Ken. Can you do John Farnham 'you're the voice'? Thanks xox
Sadly, no. John Farnham has the videos removed.
@@kentamplin I found this one :) ruclips.net/video/tbkOZTSvrHs/видео.html

@@kentamplin Thank you.
Hey Ken, when I drop my tongue and open my throat more it seems like my tone changes drastically from what I want it to be. What's going on? It sounds a lot darker

Why type of songs are you singing and for how long ?
so essentially, distortion is like putting super-strength fuel in a car engine and if it can't handle the excess power, you risk damaging it? in other words, distortion can be achieved safely over time as your vocal cords strengthen?
Yes.
@@kentamplin thank you. this video helped me tremendously as i do not have the strength yet to safely distort, but i will slowly incorporate the technique over time.
@@AustinKoleCarlisle Slow and steady wins the race. You will do it! Rock on!
