Back in the 80's i found 2 assay dumps. Both on gold mine/mill sites and ran the dirt through my drywasher (i'm in the desert) and got quite a bit of gold and silver BB's out of it. They didn't care about keeping them little bitty things back then. One yeilded 17 ounces and the other 23 ounces of gold. All told both places took me 3 weeks to run. Judging by the crucibles, cupels, and scorifiing cups you might be sitting on something there.
Really cool, I found a crucible Saturday when I was out looking for arrowheads in the creek, I had no idea what it was until a few hours ago when my friend commented on the video and told me, I’ve never spent more than ten minutes gold panning before but now I’m wanting to go back and pan it, found a beautiful Quartz crystal about a hundred yards from the crucible so it’s a very mineral rich creek, not far from the big gold rush of the 1800’s, just thought I’d look for any videos about crucibles, Auquchigger came down and went bottle hunting with my nephew and I about 5 years ago, super nice guy, thanks for sharing, God Bless & GL&HH!!!
After the twisting of the shovel.. the blade hits the dirt and roots.. with a tumbling of rocks… 😅that’s one of my favorite sounds.. Weird huh..cute lit bowls.. have a good day Greig ❤️☮️
Hi Greig, those crucibles are very interesting finds. I haven’t been able to catch up for a while, life keeps getting in the way, nice to see you out and about. Keep Safe
Believe it or not I've been following you for few yrs now and thought I'd comment this vid. Iam also a lover of history anything related to people mining in harsh environments I relate to having discovered my own relics. Just awsome
@@lanagraves4778 It wouldn't be the borax. Borax looks like a brown glass in this context. It a blacksmithing context you would find tiny iron spheres from using borax to forge weld. It cleans the iron/steel of scale and allows the two objects to fuse into one. When you see blacksmithing in the movies you always see a shower of sparks. That usually only happens when one is forge welding because the work piece is shaped in such a way as to squeeze out the flux and dross when you hit it with a hammer completing the weld. It can happen when forging poor wrought iron because you're forcing out all of the impurities.
Awesome finds!! It'd be so neat to go dig in an old mine dump someday!! There's some fairly old mines from about the 20s and 30s around here so there could be some cool old stuff too. I wonder if some of those crucibles could be cupels used in the refining process to oxidize lead? It's pretty crazy how many small crucibles there are though, would be neat to see the process they went through to refine the metals!!
I've retrieved a surprising amount of gold in the bottom of such smelting cups as they Crack inside , get reglazed over & over until the the top rim chips or cracks too severely to hold heat . They would get tossed like rubbish usually en mass 80 -100 years ago .
Okay Greig looks like you have caught the dump digging bug. LOL ! Don't believe I have ever dug in that spot. You found some real nice crucibles. Fun dig. Take care and best regards !
Yes its safe. Theres really only bears that are to worry about and if you practice proper food and waste storage you will have nothing to worry about. Its safer camping in the wilderness than it is in a city.

What a great idea. Good for you to figure that out.
I was wondering if someone was going to mention that he should look for the tiny buttons.
Always like these old dump videos, pretty sure that is how I found your channel ages ago.
That was a cool little dig,and finding those little crucible things brings back memories from the past miners. Awesome stuff😊
Thanks 👍
What a blast that must have been to find all of those! Nicely done, and all the best, Lanny
Putting mineral specimens in them, sounds like a neat idea.
always having fun, good to see you

Silver and Gold Nuggets !!!!
Nice to see the Chig. Should go over that area with a metal detector. Old coins and maybe some buttons that came out of those crucibles(sp?).
So much iron trash that metal detecting would be difficult. Did find some marbles.
@@meMiner Marbles are really cool! I love old clay and glass marbles.
nice finds!!
Hiya Greg, awesome video and that's so cool. It was cool the last time with the Chigg. I hope you have a awesome blessed day. Cya!
😺🐟 out!

I had so much fun watching the old video with Beau again and then I got sad because I have aged since. lol
@@meMiner yaaa so have we all but, we're young at heart and that's what keeps us going.

The yellows could be due to sulfer or the mixture of borax
The greens more copper

Enjoyed!!!!Thanks
Imagine finding a silver button in one of those crucibles 😊
You would hear me hoot from the road if that happened

Ah. Collecting - is such a passion. The hunt anyway 😇
Nice!!
Wow, even in the old time, people were pigs letting trash in forest !
It probably wasn't a forest back then. ;-)
They are really nice. I bet if you sold them on Etsy as ring/jewellery bowls they’d sell out immediately.🤷♀️
I heard someone was selling them online for $60-$85 USD each. I should look it up.
@@meMiner do it up my man! Then get working on those buttons!
Every time you think you're done, there's promise of another one...
And an army of bugs to protect them. lol
Those are melt dishes, not crucibles. A “miner” distinction. A swell find nonetheless.
Aren't they cupels and not crucibles? obviously there was an assay operation to determine the silver content of ore
You could be correct, especially if these little cups are made of bone ash.
Fun stuff! Were they mostly used for assays or products? Are the cruci bowls marble or hardened? Video is also a treasure, thanks.
I believe for assay. When they were in production, they cast 200 lb bars

👍!
Do you plan to sell any of those pieces of history??
not me.

recover heavy metal from them?
I am not sure they were used or lost when new

Broken bottles but nothing else.
