  • Like a kid in a candy store. This beach is covered in Pyrite, Chalcopyrite and Jasper. I pick up some and play with it in Super Iron Out and even cut a few. Enjoy!

    Like picking through a pile of treasure. Chalcopyrite and bornite often have absolutely stunning appearances! The peacocks are jealous. Thanks for sharing.

    II'm an old woman who loves rockhounding! Just bought (my FIRST purchases) some chalcopyrite already soaked in acid. I thought it just was FOUND this way, so your video taught me a TON!! How amazing.

    Looks like a great spot for pickin.
    I'm always looking down more than ever before when I'm in an interesting area around water. The cleaner the rocks are, the easier they are to identify 😄

      Would have been better searching after a light rain or if I remembered a spray bottle. Found some off camera easily where Shelby shook off. lol

    Wow, neat trick. I wonder if vinegar would do anything?
    I was surprised how angular and un-river worn the rocks were. Lots of pretty rocks there. Shelby was happy. Thanks!

    I got some teeny chalcopyrite chips in an online auction. I thought i would try a quick tumble on them just for fun. I'll know what to do with the iron out if they lose a little color. Thanks for the video.

    Very good close up while hunting. Should bring a little garden rake/claw, can't think of the name, they're about a foot long, 3 or 4 thick metal wires tongs bent about 90°, maybe an inch and a half from the end. There is usually one with a three pack of small garden tools, now days they might be made of plastic, that works well with metal detecting, but wear quicker, but won't scratch coins or set off the detector.

    Didn't know about the acid trick to change colour,, is it permanent or does it oxidise and dull?
    Cheers mate

      I first did this a couple of months ago and they still look the same. Not sure what will happen over a few years, but worst case, just do it over.

    I have never done that. Beautiful results. Can you cab it and then give it a soak and have the blue show up?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  10 месяцев назад

      I did it with some slices and it worked great so no reason it wouldn't be the same with a cab. Just have to pick the right material that doesn't crumble

      They are a bit fragile for tumbling. The jasper from the same site should do well

    Approximately how long did you let them soak?

    • @meMiner
      @meMiner  7 месяцев назад

      I tried various amounts of time. For most rocks, 3 hours seemed to be enough. I did others overnight and didn't see a noticeable improvement. I also tried with copper in the solution which was recommended but I didn't notice an improvement
