Great video thank you. I have a new Android radio and when I am connected via Android Auto I can't listen the radio while having Waze, it is one or another. Any idea? Thanks
Its easier if you think of android auto (AA) as having music and map portions. Make sure that your "music portion" of AA is off, so no music apps or podcasts are playing. Then get out of AA, go to your car's regular menu and turn on your car radio to the station you want. Then when you go back AA waze should start but your music will keep playing. You can also download iheart radio and this should automatically populate into AA. Then tell- ask google to play the station's call letters, ex WQYK. Hope that helps!
Simple if wired android auto, then which ever phone is plugged in and to switch that just unplug. If using wireless adapter, then there usually is a button to toggle back and forth to each phone. If you are lucky enough to have a car with built in wireless android auto then which ever phone has priority in the car Bluetooth settings will be used for playing music and calls through Android Auto. if all else fails, just turn off Bluetooth on the phone you don't want to use before getting in car. Thank you for the comment! There have been several software updates since I made the video. Why they changed it- I assume more people liked it this way? Google is currently rolling out Coolwalk which basically splits the car screen display so that your maps, music and notifications can be seen at the same time. There will likely be more refinements in the future.

I think some Dasaita head units support wireless AA. In that case you just need a bIuetooth connection btw your phone and the unit, nothing else. If it only supports wired AA then you need to set up wired AA first. Then put the Motorola ma1 into the USB port that you had connected to your phone for the set up. You still need a Bluetooth connection but no other adapters or dongles. Hope that helps!
If you can get WIRED Android Auto to work then you could use this device, unfortunately I dont think your car supports it. This device only changes Android Auto to wireless if it is already supported by your infotainment system. I doubt that you could change from Uconnect to another system unless you change the whole head unit.
It will only auto start the last media program you had playing before you shut car. but make sure you customize android auto and toggle the "start AA automatically" and "start music automatically"
Why can't I start playing music on the start of the car, NOT once I start driving the car. AppleCar play starts playing music automatically once a turn the car on.
for this device and android auto there is a delay. The bluetooth and wifi connections have to reconnect each time you start the car. I found not found a way around this. It usually takes about 30 seconds.
Thank you for doing this video. It was really helpful after not using my vehicle for 2 years. I aso noticed that after market USB chargers will charge but will not start Android Auto in my Dodge Durango. I can only use the plug in method whereas I was able to start Android Auto before while connected to Bluetooth.
Great Video! I tried to add an APP and also hide some APP's I didn't want but Vehicle Screen still shows hidden Icon's?? Also do you have to stay logged into Pandora on your phone with CarlinKit 2A2 connected to the vehicle?
Thanks! After the apps are moved to the bottom in the "hidden" section they should disappear from the car display after reset. Android auto should restart Pandora the next time you get back in the car even if you close that app but if you actively log out it wont work. I tested a some music apps a few months ago and some did not work consistently but RUclips music worked perfectly (not a commercial for YT music, but there might have been some glitches that were slow to be worked out for other apps).

As of now, you can not add your own photos. But I think they are working on that and it might be a feature soon. If there is a big Android Auto update, I will review it.
As of now, split screen is not available. Supposed goggle is going to update app to coolwalk, which will likely have split screen function. But it has been delayed awhile. Stay tuned!
Problem with software updates, and videos that can't be updated. Android auto no longer has a separate app. It was moved to settings. Go to settings and search for Android auto.

Android auto software was updated since this video, check out my updated video. ruclips.net/video/otQ9_s5D_X0/видео.html but the quick answer is, go to settings, connected devices, scroll down to android auto, go to customize launcher, the click top add a shortcut. you can add a contact or a google assistant command. if you choose a contact, the icon will automatically be created. and you will see it immediately below in the apps. if you choose create an assistant action, you have to fill out what the command is, like "what is the weather", the you can label the icon in space below this, then press, "create shortcut". then icon will be automatically created and listed in your app list. As of now, there is no way to set default or initial home screen. But with coolwalk (latest android auto version) initial screen has three items, map, music, and smart card. Also most recent apps will be on bottom.
I don't believe that app is compatible with android auto. A major update should happen soon, so maybe new apps and features will be added. I think there are only a few compatible music apps. Thanks. I have set up all of these features. All of a sudden I cant send a text while my phone is connected with andriod play. I can only send one through the blue tooth.
If I'm understanding you, the phone is locked when using android auto. That changed with one of their updates. Its frustrating but I don't have a work around.
My android auto home screen has tiles arranged top to bottom instead of left-right layout. So map takes the top tile spanning left to right and music and quick card tiles are in the bottom. Can i change this setting?
If your car screen has a vertical layout, the new android auto version called coolwalk will change the layout so music and maps are on top of each other and not side by side. You should be able to change the layout by going to settings, android auto, then scroll to ＂change layout.＂ I know it works with side by side screen layouts but I have not used it on a vertical screen. There seems to be 3 widgets on the Android Auto car screen. (But won't show 3 different functions on one screen) Do we have to wait for "Coolwalk" in order for this to function?
My Android auto has not had any recent interface updates, so I can't say what widget set up you have or how to modify. Coolwalk was supposed to have come out several updates ago. I don't believe they have any time frame yet for actual release. That will likely be biggest update for AA in a long time. Hopefully it does get released soon!
You have to download whatever app you use to listen to music on your phone into android auto. Its easy, go to the last chapter of the video, at the 10:10 min mark. Basically, on the car screen go to settings and find wallpaper. There is not a big selection and as of now you cant add photos for the background. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

As far as I know, if the app doesnt automatically popular into Android Auto list then it is not compatible. But that could change with an update though.
I cant seem to be able to maximize the google maps on the screen. I have 80% google maps and 20% with date and time. I would like to be able to look at the map using all real estate available. Any idea as to why this is happening? Thanks.
Android auto (AA) should be rolling out a split screen version soon, but hasn't yet as far as I know. It sounds like it might be your car's programming that only allows AA to use 80% of the screen. Try going through car's infotainment settings, hopefully it can be changed from there.
Came across this video with the same issue, plugged up to my gfs AA didint have it on hers, changed every setting and tried 3 different launchers for AA and nothing can solve it we just got ebay radios, if you open up spotify you can see music instead which is a bit better i guess

Go to google play store. At the top, go to "other devices", then click car. These are the apps that should be compatible with android auto. Only apps that are compatible will show up in android auto. After you download the app to your phone, go to settings, connected devices, scroll down to android auto, customize launcher. This is all the available apps, then you can choose to have them show on car screen or not.

I could not find an easy way to delete an app from android auto. The only way I was able to not just "hide" them from the car screen but delete them was to uninstall the app that you want to remove. BUT when you reinstall that app it automatically repopulates in AA! If you dont want that app on your phone anymore then you are done but if you still want to use that app just not in AA you can reinstall it. The only way that I can think of to make this work is to uninstall the apps you want off AA then add the apps you want up to the limit and then reinstall the original apps. Hope that helps.
How have to add apps from your phone. The site below will show you all the apps available in the Google play store for Android Auto. Once you download them they should automatically populate on your car display. If not go to Customize in Android Auto menu and make sure the apps are not hidden. Hello: Recently got an Android S24 Ulta. Now the android auto doesn't show any of the previous wallpapers under "Choose Wallpaper" and you can only turn on/off your phone. If off the background goes black. Can you disable the phone and go back to other wallpapers? Thank you!
Correct, an update that removes features- gotta love it. Now you can only mirror your phone or just black background when you go to app draw. Let's hope this gets fixed.
Not sure why. I know my android auto sometimes just freezes for no reason- well its probably after some update. But a reset works for me. Is everything else working?
you add them through the Google Play store and uninstall them the usual way. There is now a auto section in the play store so you can see which apps are compatible with Android Auto. If they are compatible then they will automatically popular in the custom launcher area of AA settings. If you dont want to uninstall an app but dont want it to show on your car screen then you can hide the app the in AA custom launcher. Hi, ho can i add android auto shortcut to home screen on Android 11? Ever since they made it a OS native feature I cant have the desktop icon. In Android 9 it shows up as regular shortcut to an app but in Android 11, I am having to go and search for it in the settings. it is sooo annoying... Please help )
Accessing the music track list is different for each music app. Look for a menu button or icon on the now playing screen when you are using your music app. In my app it's labeled queue. Hope that helps.
Definitely! In the description of this video is the link (I copied it below) that shows you music apps that are compatible with Android Auto. Not all of them play your music- some mostly stream and help you "discover" new music. Also note, that some apps don't play well with the google assistant. Meaning you will ask for a song or artist and get something way off. Hopefully, more apps will become available in the future. How do I launch it on the Samsung Galaxy z fold 4? Didn't they just do some "huge updates?" If so, I don't notice them. Last, for some reason my screen brightness is TOO BRIGHT. I don't know WTF happened or to do? I didn't touch anything!
I am not sure what do you mean launching on Z fold 4. Did you set it up on another phone and want to transfer to the fold 4? Or are you using a wireless device and not sure how to get it to work? There was supposed to be a big Android auto update a long time ago, but it keeps getting delayed, so no significant changes to the interface in awhile. But "coolwalk" which allows split screen on android auto is supposed to be released eventually. As far as the brightness of the screen. Android auto does not have any brightness settings, the only display setting you can change is allow android auto to use dark mode, and adjust automatically. On my car, the brightness can be adjusted in the original car settings, which will carry over to the display when you are using Android auto. hope that helps!

It is now in settings: Advanced features. Its at the top of that menu. You can also search Android auto in settings. I think since the s21 they got rid of app and made it a settings feature.
once you have android auto running, on car screen, scroll down through icons until you get to settings. Then scroll down to wallpaper. I have 18 to choose from now, that might get updated in the future. hope that helps!

Question... you may know the answer... we have one car, and two Android Auto app'd phones.. Which phone does the car select of the two?

I have a 2011 Doge Ram . my radio has u connect on it will Android work ? Can I get rid of u connect ?

Hi! For the "change layout" option, what's the difference between "navigation closer to driver" and "media closer to driver"?
When in split screen, if you drive on left, for example, you can either have maps or music show on left side of screen.

Android Auto Essentials is gone from the Play Store. How can we populate AA with apps?

My android auto home screen has tiles arranged top to bottom instead of left-right layout. So map takes the top tile spanning left to right and music and quick card tiles are in the bottom. Can i change this setting?
If your car screen has a vertical layout, the new android auto version called coolwalk will change the layout so music and maps are on top of each other and not side by side. You should be able to change the layout by going to settings, android auto, then scroll to ＂change layout.＂ I know it works with side by side screen layouts but I have not used it on a vertical screen.

With latest software updates, Android Auto was moved into the settings menu under Connected devices. Scroll down to find the customization option.

Google updated Android Auto since this video. They got rid of the app and moved Android Auto into settings menu.

There seems to be 3 widgets on the Android Auto car screen. (But won't show 3 different functions on one screen) Do we have to wait for "Coolwalk" in order for this to function?
My Android auto has not had any recent interface updates, so I can't say what widget set up you have or how to modify. Coolwalk was supposed to have come out several updates ago. I don't believe they have any time frame yet for actual release. That will likely be biggest update for AA in a long time. Hopefully it does get released soon!
How to listen to music you have downloaded on your phone ?
You have to download whatever app you use to listen to music on your phone into android auto. If your app is not available then download any music app to use with android auto.

Its easy, go to the last chapter of the video, at the 10:10 min mark. Basically, on the car screen go to settings and find wallpaper. There is not a big selection and as of now you cant add photos for the background.

As far as I know, if the app doesnt automatically popular into Android Auto list then it is not compatible. But that could change with an update though.
I cant seem to be able to maximize the google maps on the screen. I have 80% google maps and 20% with date and time. I would like to be able to look at the map using all real estate available. Any idea as to why this is happening?

Android auto (AA) should be rolling out a split screen version soon, but hasn't yet as far as I know. It sounds like it might be your car's programming that only allows AA to use 80% of the screen. Try going through car's infotainment settings, hopefully it can be changed from there.
Came across this video with the same issue, plugged up to my gfs AA didint have it on hers, changed every setting and tried 3 different launchers for AA and nothing can solve it we just got ebay radios, if you open up spotify you can see music instead which is a bit better i guess

Go to google play store. At the top, go to "other devices", then click car. These are the apps that should be compatible with android auto. Only apps that are compatible will show up in android auto. After you download the app to your phone, go to settings, connected devices, scroll down to android auto, customize launcher. This is all the available apps, then you can choose to have them show on car screen or not.

Hi there , is there any way to delete the URL once you enter it into the custom app? I have used the 10 custom apps but now can't delete any of the URL and can't add any more apps. Is there any way round it ? Cheers Garry
I could not find an easy way to delete an app from android auto. The only way I was able to not just "hide" them from the car screen but delete them was to uninstall the app that you want to remove. BUT when you reinstall that app it automatically repopulates in AA! If you dont want that app on your phone anymore then you are done but if you still want to use that app just not in AA you can reinstall it. The only way that I can think of to make this work is to uninstall the apps you want off AA then add the apps you want up to the limit and then reinstall the original apps. Hope that helps.

Sorry, as far as I know, icon sizes can't be changed. Possibly in future updates??

How have to add apps from your phone. The site below will show you all the apps available in the Google play store for Android Auto. Once you download them they should automatically populate on your car display. If not go to Customize in Android Auto menu and make sure the apps are not hidden. You can also change the order of the apps.

Hello: Recently got an Android S24 Ulta. Now the android auto doesn't show any of the previous wallpapers under "Choose Wallpaper" and you can only turn on/off your phone. If off the background goes black. Can you disable the phone and go back to other wallpapers? Thank you!
Correct, an update that removes features- gotta love it. Now you can only mirror your phone or just black background when you go to app draw. Let's hope this gets fixed.

Not sure why. I know my android auto sometimes just freezes for no reason- well its probably after some update. But a reset works for me. Is everything else working?

How do you add apps and delete apps
you add them through the Google Play store and uninstall them the usual way. There is now a auto section in the play store so you can see which apps are compatible with Android Auto.
If they are compatible then they will automatically popular in the custom launcher area of AA settings. If you dont want to uninstall an app but dont want it to show on your car screen then you can hide the app the in AA custom launcher.

You sure can! I downloaded the app to Android auto and opened it up on my car screen but I did not officially test it because I dont have an account.

Hi, ho can i add android auto shortcut to home screen on Android 11? Ever since they made it a OS native feature I cant have the desktop icon. In Android 9 it shows up as regular shortcut to an app but in Android 11, I am having to go and search for it in the settings. it is sooo annoying... Please help )

How to get track list using android auto?
Accessing the music track list is different for each music app. Look for a menu button or icon on the now playing screen when you are using your music app. In my app it's labeled queue. Hope that helps.

Definitely! In the description of this video is the link (I copied it below) that shows you music apps that are compatible with Android Auto. Not all of them play your music- some mostly stream and help you "discover" new music. Also note, that some apps don't play well with the google assistant. Meaning you will ask for a song or artist and get something way off. Hopefully, more apps will become available in the future. Hope that helps!

How do I launch it on the Samsung Galaxy z fold 4?
Didn't they just do some "huge updates?" If so, I don't notice them. Last, for some reason my screen brightness is TOO BRIGHT. I don't know WTF happened or to do? I didn't touch anything!
I am not sure what do you mean launching on Z fold 4. Did you set it up on another phone and want to transfer to the fold 4? Or are you using a wireless device and not sure how to get it to work?
There was supposed to be a big Android auto update a long time ago, but it keeps getting delayed, so no significant changes to the interface in awhile. But "coolwalk" which allows split screen on android auto is supposed to be released eventually.
As far as the brightness of the screen. Android auto does not have any brightness settings, the only display setting you can change is allow android auto to use dark mode, and adjust automatically.
On my car, the brightness can be adjusted in the original car settings, which will carry over to the display when you are using Android auto.

It is now in settings: Advanced features. Its at the top of that menu. You can also search Android auto in settings. I think since the s21 they got rid of app and made it a settings feature.

How to change the wallpaper?
once you have android auto running, on car screen, scroll down through icons until you get to settings. Then scroll down to wallpaper. I have 18 to choose from now, that might get updated in the future. hope that helps!
