  • I can't remove my headrest! How do I install my car seat?
Can you fit a front facing car seat in a vehicle seat with a non removable head rest? We've got some tips for you! Whether you're using a forward facing car seat or high back booster seat, you'll want to make sure that it fits into your car according to the manual, especially if the car's headrest is touching the car seat's headrest.
Before purchasing a seat, it's important to make sure the fit is compatible with your non removable headrests.
You can look up the car seat manual, or let us do the work for you with the Forward Facing and Booster Buying Kit here! urlgeni.us/seat/ffboosterkit

Thanks for this! I have a Volvo xc40 and never pondered the headrests which aren’t removable.

This video came at a perfect time! We are kind of in the opposite situation, we are car shopping and already have 2 kid seats. We test drove the Wagoneer and found that our high back booster is pushed forward by the headrest. We just bought this booster a few months ago, but had no idea some of them allow a gap! We might have to buy another new one. We also have a Clek Foonf, rearfacing for now, but just read that it is allowed to have a gap as long as part of it is touching the seat back....do you have yours installed in your wagoner? I'm unsure what that acceptable gap looks like.

The Clek Foonf is fine forward-facing

@@safeintheseat After I commented we ended up changing out everything in the Clek Foonf to forward facing to try it out and noticed that it works in the Wagoneer. Unfortunately I think we've decided we just can't make that vehicle work with our budget. Do you know where I can find a picture/video showing what an acceptable gap looks like for the Foonf in the event that whatever vehicle we choose also has headrests that can't be adjusted/removed? Thanks!

Thanks for posting this! I also have a Wagoneer and bought the Grow With You. However, I cannot get it to install without touching the vehicle headrest. I’ve tried many different reclines both with the carseat and with the vehicle seat. What am I doing wrong??

I haven't tried it in this vehicle yet. But a lot of the Graco seats don't work well with non-removable headrests. It may be incompatible. The vehicle headrest can touch the Graco's headrest. So you should be able to make it work in harness mode. But the high back booster mode is very unlikely to be compatible.

@@safeintheseat this appears to be the interior of the Wagoneer in this video, and the outside of the car was also a Wagoneer, shown as compatible with the green Britax Grow With You (in this video)?

If it does not create a gap, are you allowed to recline the seat a little bit to accomdate for the headrest? I also have a Wagoneer and an evenflo360 and my daughter is ff and we need to raise the headrest one notch and it’s hitting the vehicle headrest.

Generally not. But you can contact both Evenflo and Jeep to ask. Both have to say yes.

I have a nuna rava & a 2009 chevy silverado. I see in the video when you use the nuna theres a lot of space between the back of the child car seat & the vehicle seat. It’s like that when I try to install my rava forward facing on the driver side or passenger side back seats. Is that okay?

Nuna does not mind a gap. Just make sure you have the top tether attached and that there is no more than 1" of movement where the seat belt is going through the car seat.
