16:50 "KQ is not a strategic asset, the govt can/should let it fail"...jaw on the floor. As a lay person I thought it was, that having a national carrier is a hegemonic symbol. But after this doc, I say let it flame out and rebuild.
Simply ,the best idea is to sell it to private company and forget it,nationalizing it will make it even more corrupt and Kenya is going to lose trillions, everybody appointed will steal knowing very well it belongs to Goverment, the treasury will be bailing it out in hard times, the money gets siphoned and the circle continues.
They took Mbuvi Gunze out and paid him over 100m because they wanted to "start afresh and didn't want somebody who has been with the airline." So, they picked Kilavuka from Jambo jet, a low cost carrier operated of the same KQ. Wtf??? Wtf??
KQ sadly is a fraction/sample and a true representation of the country; the country is rotten, most of our citizens believe that corruption is the way out and up . KQ employs those citizens. I was crying about KQ's possible death when i saw the trailer to this documentary but now that i have watched the whole thing, let the whole ship sink
Sometimes thats the best decision. Same to Kenya. This country needs a reset button its exhausting hearing about corruption with no consequences to perpetrators. I admire Rwanda

KQ’s downfall is an example of reaping what you sow. The fruit of all those years of flawed hiring processes and corrupt management has finally ripened. Unless we stop sowing the wrong seeds as a people Kenya will also follow KQ, that is if hatuko hapo tayari.
Very well said. If you consistently sow mediocrity across the ranks as Kenyans do and applaud then prepare to reap decay and retrogression like we are witnessing in KQ
It's really sad to see the Kenyan people watch as their pride becomes a show of shame and disdain due to pervasive mismanagement and corruption by a select few. I weep because I have seen this happen with our own defunct Nigeria Airways... Same story, same path unfolding. I had a very bad experience flying with KQ from Nairobi to Lagos last year(cost me an extra $500 right at the airport) and I said to myself "if this kind of customer service continues there just might not be a National carrier anymore". I didn't even know this level of corruption was already taking place and it was barely surviving. I see Dan Okwiri as someone who is very passionate but the unfortunate thing is that such people wouldn't be allowed to steer the ship because of their selfish ambitions and corrupt practices. I suggest they stop wasting tax payers funds and sell off the entire asset of KQ and let everyone move to their "tents". Because ordinarily it shouldn't be standing with all the monumental losses incured if not for the government still pumping funds into it. These funds can be channelled into other things such as education and healthcare which will ameliorate the plights of the citizens with greater impact.
Why can't people just do their jobs and earn an honest living! Someone has to break this cycle or else we won't have a country in the next decade. The whole damn system is messed up!
Wow, KQ has a long tough road ahead if it is to be turned around back to profitability... Nationalization will be another strategic mismanagement mistake if it does not involve looking at the internal corruption, the loss of intellectual capital, the bad agreements like outsourcing maintenance that can be done locally, etc.
Just finished watching the series. Top notch. It is really unfortunate that an airline that had so much promise and potential for the African Continent has succomb to incompetance and corruption. All they really needed to do was follow the Ethiopian Airlines model and adapt it to their target market. Or at least partner with Ethiopian Airlines in a serious manner. It's really a shame to the continent that this happened this way. KQ should not look to die but to revamp itself, rebuild it's image and services, and should be the forefront for the battle against corruption and incompetent leaders placed at the senior level of ogranizations.
Cayman Islands, Jersey, Mauritius...when you see investors and companies from these hideous places, there is a syphon plot in the system. What is unlimited amount of wealth for a man with a limited amount of time? Our idea of success is also our Achille's heel.
FOR EXAMPLE WE HAVE BEEN TOLD TO DO V.R which is volunteer retirement for cost cutting reasons and after we did so the HR tells us to give her time to recall those who left due to shortage.
The CEO saying that he will do things differently is just a joke, if he was serious about killing corruption at KQ,WHAT HAS HE DONE SO FAR,honestly KQ has flights that burn fuel from point A to B and from B to A without passengers or cargo,a true leader with full knowledge of what has been killing the company should have acted on that.the truth is that he is aware but covering the cartels on these rotten deals and is same reason why he threatens to sack staff. this is what happens, most outstation managers were planted in those positions by the great TOM OGENDO the head of customer services and passenger services, the man who one time acted as ground ops director.the purpose is to help other airlines benefit from KQ market and those outstation managers who does that have an agreement with the top management,in return is KICKBACKS . When KQ flights fly empty and burning fuel it means business elsewhere.and then ALLAN KILLAVUKA THE CEO can dismiss this by saying no corruption and cover these cartels. WHEN KQ DOES ANOTHER BOOKING DUE TO CANCELLED FLIGHTS IN THE NAME OF TECHNICAL ISSUES,HONESTLY THERE IS WHAT WE CALL RE BOOKING COMPENSATION WHICH AGAIN COSTS THE COMPANY AND AGAIN ON THIS RE BOOKING COMPENSATION TO CUSTOMERS OR PASSENGERS,THERE IS OVERSTATED COMPENSATIONS WHICH IS A SCANDAL.MANY PASSENGERS DUE TO THIS ROTTEN AND MONKEY GAMES ARE TAKEN TO HOTELS WHERE BY AGAIN THEY ARE GIVEN KICK BACKS,SO KENYANS AGAIN YOU CANNOT BE AN OUTSTATION MANAGER IN KENYA AIRWAYS IF YOU HAVE NO ABILITY TO DO THESE KIND OF STUPID BUSINESSES WITH THESE ROGUE MANAGERS AND DIRECTORS.,TRANSPORT TO AND FROM HOTELS TO PROMOTE THESE CARTELS VEHICLES DOING BUSINESS AT AIRPORTS.VISAS COSTS DUE TO CANCELLATIONS AND MY FELLOW KENYANS WHEN YOU HEAR KQ doing badly there are people getting rich.before cargo flights belonging to KQ could do business ,there has been a lot of bogus businesses done by dick murianki by cancellation of these freighters in the name of zero captain just to realize the business is to promote other airlines for kickback reasons also storage facilities. Generally dear kenyans a staff lost a job in the watch of kenya airways management because he exposed all these and streamlined the sections. the people behind these are said to BELONG TO MOST POWERFUL PERSONS IN KENYA MOSTLY PA MATIANGI AND IS THE REASON WHY ONE PERSON SAID THAT GOVERNMENT WILL KILL THIS COUNTRY. Great documentary. Some things you may want to consider: 1. There was a lot of repeated footage throughout the documentary. Maybe get more footage or work around the lack of footage. 2. The music drowns out people who are talking. At times it was very hard to make out what was being said. This can be fixed with a simple gain staging.

A wise sage long ago said, " Manage the people, the top line and the bottom line will follow". The wise sage passed away a few months later having built the world's most valuable company today that we know as Apple. KQ should manage the people (competency, culture and numbers), the services they provide (without compromise) and the bottom line will follow. A company performs better with an empathetic CEO but in times of change, CEOs that are least empathetic performs best in steering leadership of a company. Mikosz was best at Polish Airlines because he fired and rehired, cut beuracracies and his vision was to carryon with his tough stand at KQ thus bringing on his team. Lakini we all know Kenya is different, "toa kitu kidogo babaa"," huyu mtu ni wetu", " ukituguza tunaenda kortini"," Kenya ina wenyewe, hatuendangi hivi"- to sum it all, we adopted the worst of morals and 'the priviledge handicap' that came with independence and we seem not to break that cycle. Eventually Mikosz left after frustrations that came with the job. Alan has a difficult task of choosing the blue pill or the red one. He has to choose between a cash bill or press the reset button to the past with the knowledge that he has. And as Elon Musk, the man that has privatized the space industry says, " If given the choice between the blue pill or the red pill, always go with the red pill." Richard Brandson of Virgin Airlines says," Always look after your employees, take a keen interest in them, and you will succeed". My thought is that the employees there already know the troubles ailing KQ. By employee, I mean the overlooked ones, the competents and most important ones the one that are least priviledged in any way. Mckinsey knew this well and they knew more about KQ from this approach than any independent study could have found. Deloitte too has the map and if none of the two can assist the carrier from its bed, it's a high time to rethink KQ. My hope is that Alan is fit for the uphill battle and being as competent as he is, (very competent), our best wishes are with him.... Nothing is impossible

Kenya airways CEO is making this company even more worse, like a private club and a family thing.the government has given kenya airways billions to pay staff salary areas accumulated during the COVID19.The CEO refuses with the money and argues that it is only few staff who worked during the COVID19.a pity, ask the CEO where that money went to.he has shared with cartels who support him.how do someone eat money belonging to staff yet he is only less than one and half years old in the organization?
Kq also chose to remove commissions to travel agencies and also took the path to compete directly and under cut travel agencies. This has forced many local travel agencies to sell other airlines as a means of making a living in favor of the national airline
KQ seems too big for Allan to handle,it's way over his head. He doesn't seem to have a grasp of the intricacies of the company. This expatriates are no better, they too are part of the looting. It seems Kenya's corruption culture infects anyone who stays here too long.

This is GREAT, John! Ask Kilavuka to write the board a letter recommending Okwiri (who seems to understand KQ inside out) to be part of the board or to be part of KQ Advisory Team - if possible.
Again, great investigative journalism from you and Africa Uncensored team👏
Hola from Nigeria! The documentary was well put together. You have earned a fan. Telling the truth is the beginning of any process of change. Kenyan Airways story is much better than that of Nigerian Airways. @AfricaUncensored please do one on Nigeria Airways!
The body language of the CEO and his feedback tells us the obvious he is part of the system or perhaps afraid of it
Without a doubt bro....
Nah. The guy is genuinely surprised. He's found out the mess is deeper than originally thought, he can't answer tough questions meant for his 3 predecessors Naikuni, Ngunze and Mikosz
He looks afraid
Both.
I have no confidence in him, he sounds so uninformed. How will he make any changes if he has no knowledge of what has happened before him? What will he change?
A really well researched informative documentary. Looking forward to see change after this.
Wow! Truly worth the time and effort to see the 4 documentary parts. Kudos to the team. For KQ to really be flying because they have become ostriches hiding their faces in the ground, they should truly sort out the mismanagement and personnel, asap. Like it has been mentioned earlier, the planes are to be on the sky and not on the ground. Again, awesome and clear documentary..👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 Thank you.
Theft is the key economic activity in Kenya. The difference is how it is done. In the streets it is mugging, in the boardrooms it is by contracts
Thanks once again to africa uncensored team. Absolutely Insightful documentary as usual. Its like the KQ leadership is doing everything for KQ to fail!!!
You would think as a new CEO, this guy would try & scrutinise past failures, before he would do any rebranding etc....he say doesn't what look at the past.....therein lies the problem. RIP the former pride of Africa!!!
after watching the 4 parts have learned a lot. not only KENYA AIRWAYS needs to reset itself.. kuna alot happening chini ya maji. its so painful our pride is falling apart. it feels like someone anaiba our identity.
Our identity is revealed under adversity.
Kenya airways needs to merge with other East African airlines....as we see merger with a bigger airline is not mutual in benefit..merger with other regional airlines is mutual since we are bound together in the East African community. When it is owned by many countries there will be more pressure for accountability i think.
Corruption is KEY to Kenya's downfall. My heart is bleeding for our future children!
The new CEO is dodgy🤦 doesn't know anything or admit to anything
Very true. I thought so too
I believe different. Knows a lot but received an email similar Dr. Akombe. "Our silence is not your license"
Ideally...he is trying to be politically correct....how can you explain that you chose not to have a keen look into the past records! Sadd
That's the quality you get when no one else wants anything to do with a sinking ship. He got the job not because he is competent, but because no one else wants to do it.
Sebastian met tribal war heads in kenya and period, then and then could not do anything, paying 20 million to airlines CEO is nothing the tribalism could not let him doing his job
Is this Allan kilavuka serious.how can you turn around a company and not go back to understand what went wrong.either he is lying or just incompetent
exactly, wen someone says forget the past, he is part of the cover up
He's part of the eaters.
He should have been a little tactical on that question. But maybe he knows if the gets into the historical murk ati to understand it he wont move forward, he will end up like the rest. Maneno ya Samburu na Amboseli as indicated is too deep and complicated and if he tries to get into it he will be karangwad.
I'll be in this board some day.. as a spotter this pains me.
He is lying and incompetent
I am truly impressed by this analysis. Good investigative reporting. We need more of this so that people can see 2 sides of the story.
am not even born in this country but why this story made me tear? i feel so much pain, its like they did not care at all. poor KQ... Oh God plse have mercy
kenya's elite ruling class are thieves. when a thief comes to your house to steal, he really doesn't givadamn about you. And when the salt has lost it's taste where on earth can it regain it's saltiness?
Thank you very much for this documentary, learnt one or two things it's really saddening. Mr. Allan Kilavuka the ball is in your court, there is a lot we cannot mend but just try...Dan Okiri kenya need men like you, alot of passion is felt when you tackle this subject matter...
When Africa Uncensored opens up a TV station(Someone might be preventing them to get one). I will be glued to it and probably most Kenyans will. The current mainstream TV stations seem to be on a mission to hoodwink Kenyans so they can earn govt ad revenue. Good job Allan Namu and Africa Uncensored, Kenyans are watching you.

Wow, just wow! It's such an eye-opening documentary. Kudos 👏
Proper journalism.

But the system will not allow
@Harun Kimathi exactly, they’d only put their own. Someone who’d let them do their thing as Allan Kilavuka is demonstrating
@@princerichard4519 have you got in touch with Dan Okwiri? I can help if you want.

This is just depressing. The only people who are/ have been trying to save this capsizing ship are the people in low level management and general staff. The top is just there to finish what's left. The CEOs and their short term stints took "It's our turn to eat" to a whole other level. No company could have survived this level of mismanagement. Not even the Amazons of this world.
Beauty with brains
True other companies would have folded up immediately with this kind of loses why is the government wasting tax payers money trying to save this sinking ship KQ should be wrapped up and put in the dustbin 😭😡
The pay structure is ridiculous.. the ceo is basically earning millions while KQ is loosing billions! Where is the sense in that? Pay the ceo 300,000 bob as base pay, then incentives tied to performance of the airline. But who are we kidding, the powers that be in this country only care for conduits of looting our taxes..
@@smkariuki this is absurd! i would have thught Mikosz would have helped turn-around KQ as he did the same to Polish Airlines. but instead he was unscrupulous in his management then ended up recording a 27bil loss in his watch. how can someone be so callous like this? and thats the saddest part; "the people in the low level management and genera staff." KQ should reconsider them and place them on high managerial slots.
Very insightful, dissecting "project mawingu" which ironically is shrouded in a cloud of mystery
They took Mbuvi Gunze out and paid him over 100m because they wanted to "start afresh and didn't want somebody who has been with the airline." So, they picked Kilavuka from Jambo jet, a low cost carrier operated of the same KQ. Wtf??? Wtf??
It's amazing!! Would anyone reasonable run their own business like this?!! This is appaling
Excellent yet painful investigative journalism.
Can this investigative journalism come to South Africa. There's a lot we need to know
A well put out documentary

Okwiri would make a great addition to the board. Impressed by his intellect, articulations and his genuine frustration. Not that as one man he will turn it around, but a couple of such brains can give kq a lifeline. The fish rots from the head and its not just the kq head.
He was discarded like an old rug after the Douala saga. He has written an article about his experience.

Very interesting and well-produced documentary.
Awesome stuff.
We have a skeleton country, the flesh already long time eaten.
Amazing documentary 🥳
Just finished watching the series. Top notch.
It is really unfortunate that an airline that had so much promise and potential for the African Continent has succomb to incompetance and corruption. All they really needed to do was follow the Ethiopian Airlines model and adapt it to their target market. Or at least partner with Ethiopian Airlines in a serious manner.
It's really a shame to the continent that this happened this way.
KQ should not look to die but to revamp itself, rebuild it's image and services, and should be the forefront for the battle against corruption and incompetent leaders placed at the senior level of ogranizations.
Kenya airways is dead !! Skeleton remaining !! Flesh long eaten away !!!
Cayman Islands, Jersey, Mauritius...when you see investors and companies from these hideous places, there is a syphon plot in the system. What is unlimited amount of wealth for a man with a limited amount of time? Our idea of success is also our Achille's heel.
Kudos, Dan Okwiri
EVERY CUSTOMER BELONGING TO KQ NORMALLY IS DIRECTED TO OTHER AIRLINES LIKE JAMBO JET ,FLY 540 AND OTHER DOMESTIC FLIGHTS AND SO AS KQ CRY NO BUSINESS OR BUSINESS AT ZERO ,ROTTEN MINDED MEN AND WOMEN AT THE LEADERSHIP OF KENYA AIRWAYS GET KICKBACKS OR COMMISSIONS.THAT IS WHY FLY540 is greatly expanding and doing well.some cartels have shares there, the ceo of other airline who used to be titus naikuni director at his office alex avedi normally does that business with tom ogendo and honestly air crafts fly empty because they are needed at point B.that is domestic,at the international level, customers belonging to KQ flights too diverted to other companies like Qatar airlines, air France,KLM,so do you expect an aircraft belonging to KQ at Johannesburg not to fly back to kenya because all passengers have been re booked to another airline?yet this air craft is needed for another destination?these flights are normally cancelled in the name of technical issues which is not true, when we say outstation managers are rich and their head tom ogendo and gordon anyimu are rich,it is true and tell me when will kenya airways make profits?
Generally dear kenyans a staff lost a job in the watch of kenya airways management because he exposed all these and
streamlined the sections.
the people behind these are said to BELONG TO MOST POWERFUL PERSONS IN KENYA MOSTLY PA MATIANGI AND IS THE REASON WHY ONE PERSON SAID THAT GOVERNMENT WILL KILL THIS COUNTRY.
IN OTHER WORDS GROUND OPERATIONS KENYA AIRWAYS IS ROTTEN BECAUSE OF GORDON ANYIMU THE HEAD OF GROUND OPERATION PROMOTED BY CEO KNOWING CLEARLY THIS MAN IS A SCANDAL LORD ,HEAD OF SECURITY BERNARD OGANGA,TOM OGENDO AND THE GERARD LIMO THE MAN WHO SAY HE GOT KQ JOB THROUGH THE OPPOSITION LEADER.
IS KENYA AIRWAYS NEAR TO DOING WELL?

Huyu CEO needs to be serious. Understanding past mistakes helps build better decisions he's been in KQ for a while he has to have learnt something
He is a thief. He doesn't care
Yani....... how are these people not in jail???
Why should they be in prison, thi is Kenya.
Who will put them in jail?
How can they be jailed?do your homework well, do your investigation well -Kenya airways top management belongs to who is who in Kenya including the president and prominent families !! I happen to know some of them !! Don't see the Nairobi airport !! Open your eyes and see the 56 destinations served by the airline, they live very lucrative lives abroad and very hefty salaries paid in dollars.
Thats what ails this country. No culture of accountability. People have very mundane short term goals like driving a land cruiser V8 or living in Runda. Thus the end justifies the means
@@briannganyi ;only a few who are far sighted, majority are greedy, corrupt, selfish and man eaters !! kenya airways management gave a staff an extra responsibility as fuel manager so as to help kick out these perpetrators, morris musyoki established on how money was been pilfered through excessive invoicing,in fuel malpractices by both ground operation head Gordon anyimu, finance and the head of supply chain irene lempaka, two contracts of third parties running at the same time signed by Dick murianki the then finance director and francis musila the then ground ops director, cancellation of flights,KQ revenues been directed to individual accounts, ticket fraud, duplication of roles so as to have ghost workers, when musyoki met the company expectations of streamlining departments and sealing all loop holes of corruption, the company decided to kick him out because he mentioned the people behind all these including francis musila who was directly involved in project mawingu,Gordon anyimu involved in selling company assets and equipment, irene lempaka in giving exaggerated fuel invoices, tom ogendo ticket fraud.we understand the current head of security KQ has attacked morris twice for mentioning these names and for producing evidence.
They sacked morris to hide the truth, they enjoy big salaries without work done, morris helped to bring back millions which got lost through cartels but all these has been credited by sacking him, making his family suffer, and frequent attacks by people been send by company.may God forbid.
God will reward morris, shame on you corrupt management.
Great documentary. Some things you may want to consider:
1. There was a lot of repeated footage throughout the documentary. Maybe get more footage or work around the lack of footage.
2. The music drowns out people who are talking. At times it was very hard to make out what was being said. This can be fixed with a simple gain staging.
You keep bodyguards when someone threatens you because you are cutting off their corrupt deals!
You DON’T keep bodyguards when you are corrupt yourself and allow others around you to EAT and kill the national airline.

privatization or nationalization is not KQ problem, the problem is the nature of CEO's FROM TIME OF TITUS NAIKUNI TO DATE,THE TYPE OF BOARD TOO AFFECTED THE COMPANY
KQ need a consultant CEO soonest time possible and entire change of management.
This is impressive expose. The eating culture goes on and on. What we really lack is national patriotism, same thing happens everywhere in Kenya
The mistakes the management made surely. I love the insight made that we have locally experienced consultants who are outside the gates better than these international experts who come only to milk enough from a pot that has nothing. This is painful

When is part 5 and 6 come ing

Worth watching it. There is a lot to be done in our country. So sad.
TRU AND HE IS TRIBAL,
I have learnt of business ethics
Kq also chose to remove commissions to travel agencies and also took the path to compete directly and under cut travel agencies. This has forced many local travel agencies to sell other airlines as a means of making a living in favor of the national airline
Exactly !!

My take is what ails our whole country in general. We have not yet found leaders whether in business or in government who love our country more than themselves.
