I have said since 1995 that Kenya needs to make more use of its railways.
@Anonymous You have a point my friend! You see Africans are strange creatures who think now instead of tomorrow! That's why foreigners colonized us! We must put country before self, a concept that makes western countries great regardless of who is in power ! No need to hide your identity coz we need thinkers like you 😉

Sweetheart, this is what Africans must do to write their own narrative instead of always getting the short end of the stick. You see, with all the hate in the world, Africans must stand up and show the world that yes we can and that we are not always a basket case as portrayed by the western media! This may actually change the way black people are seen around the world. God bless Africa.

This is great. This will take care of the railway to nowhere. It has created job opportunities by the revival of the statitions, the train themselves and makes transport cheaper.
With incorporation of kdf and nys it has made it more cheaper to revive.
Great work. Good report Bwana chamwanda

Very commendable job by the president engaging the forces on such projects. Kudos to president uhuru
Instead of sitting idle in baracks, but imagine our corrupt crooked scholars are at pains and criticising preso for militarizing the country yet all they do is steal, atleast the forces are getting dirty and we are seeing real stuff.
Kenya should set a bar with this project efficienccy, effectiveness and dedication for all her development projects.
Good job Chams Media. 👍
Looking forward to the revival of passenger service on the narrow guage network to Kisumu, Kitale and lots of other places. This railway was built with great sacrifices, don't let them go to waste! The narrow-guage network is a great legacy. South Africa and New Zealand have done really welll with their narrow-gauge rail lines, Kenya can too! Bring it on!
They were "finished" by cartels who now dominate the trucking industry during the moi era cause before that when east Africa railways existed it was very much alive.
I'd love to ride on this one and get to just see a different Side of this beautiful nation.

Kenyans all along this railway line will benefit. Kenya must form engineers to maintain its railway network in good condition to insure safety. i have seen in the video that at cross sections there are no barrier to prevent the public from crossing the line as a train was about to cross this can be dangerous. Congratulations to all the forces that have join hands to rehabilitate this railway line.
This trains helps alot and we will always need them no matter the technology, in Capetown south Africa, this is major transport for so many people....thats my take

PLEASE Alex! Kindly tell the people concern to put WARNING SIGNS or Lights/very loud hones when the train is approaching residential areas to avoid accidents in the future
This was a good move. How I wish people will shift from matatus and embrace the train so we can reduce the competition in the matatus that’s leading to road accidents

This is the approach Uhuru should have had with the SGR... I know it's a big lesson learnt but a costly one that will be borne by generations to come. But now his successor has to take the baton n keep on utilizing our armed forces n NYS as this has proven fruitful for quick and dependable results

What about the Eldoret - Kitale railway line that served the grain basket of Kenya? Recent evidence has it that NC&PB stores country wide are empty and subsequently grain food shortages are all courtesy of dilapidation of this line. Should it not be rehabilitated as a matter of priority?

Good Job @chams
A good documentary from Chams Media. Always appreciated.
It looks like Kenya is going to the “default” plans. It seems like things were very well conceptualized during the formative stages of the nation Kenya. Somewhere down the lane, we lost it.
But is the revival of these meter gauge railways overtaken by time and events? Is the railway competitive in 21st century of Information Age? I see in the US a train hauling over 200 wagons/cars at a go, all loaded and fast. These trains transverse corn belts, coal mining states, and other mechanized agricultural states. Will this meter gauge railway be fully utilized or under-utilized and finally die a natural death? Only time will tell.....
At least it’s good to revive something that was once working, to continue working. Better that let things rot.

Development is mostly focused in central Kenya....other regions are not part of Kenya
exactly
The railway has been in existence since early 20th century.
@@munenex everyone knows it has been existent ,we are speaking of reviving . why certain areas and not others
Does the SGR pass through central? Which is high speed modern train.

Fewer killer trucks on the road. This is more than welcome. Am hoping the railway crossings are 'barriered' and manned.
CHAMS, you should do a feature on wheelbarrow donations.
I beg the kenya railway engineers to design the seating arrangement on the wagon to make it modern and improve the power of the locomotive engine to gain more speed than the old engine by doing engine overhaul and adding more powerful engine.
As u can see that train is already wobbly make it go any faster and u will find it in a ditch somewhere. Thats why others use standard gauge
Concept is good and its a good start. Only issue is environment - yes, less trucks on road, but the train itself is now polluting nature... did anyone notice the smoke coming out of the train, thick black smoke. Why are we still using old technology, yet billions were spent to revive the track... also noted that the carriage used looked so ancient... can the govt at least, while updating or reviving these routes also take into consideration aesthetics, use of renewable technologies etc... It's like the rest of the world is moving so much forward and we are moving back..... We have seen what others are doing, why can we not build better..... I wonder?
The billion did not go to buying new locomotives and if it did they would buy retired diesel locomotives so smoke will still be there

basically reviving central kenya . how about those towns along the old rail in western kenya to the border who lost their economies when that rail died and in its place you by passed them with and sgr that is supposed to go to kisumu but dropping all the towns it used to pass through before? revive all the lines in western kenya from busia , kisumu , bungoma , kitale , eldoret all the way to nakuru .

It’s mainly for cargo, it can compete very well with other modes of transport because it’s cheaper
Sio yako pekee. Its not a waste of tax.
If time is your primary concern the fastest means is air. What you fail to see is a matatu to Nanyuki will carry 14 passengers or 29 maximum. The train can carry 1000 at a go and it is more reliable i.e A train will always reliably carry more at a better price.
Also the assumption you are making is that all people are in a hurry. Nanyuki is a major tourist destination and a lot of people will want the train for the scenery and adventure as part of their experience.
