Kenya thrives in mediocrity and sycophancy. One sane individual cannot anaylse the economic importance of the SGR without discussing the contract for SGR which the Courts ruled as an illegality from the onset: flawed procurement. The Chinese in collaboration with the “deep state system” did viability study, feasibility studies, designed the SGR, are supervising themselves, financed the railway, are operating it, and maintaining it. Kenya SGR is 560km at Kshs 480 Billion (Speed 120and 80km/h for passenger and Goods, diesel driven, ends in Suswa Naivasha). Tanzania SGR is 1467km from Dar-es-Salaam, Morogoro, Dodoma, Makutopora to Mwanza on Lake Vitoria) at Kshs 550Billion, largely financed by taxpayers ( Electric, 120km/h and 140km/hr, 80% unskilled Tanzanians employed and 40% of Skilled workers are Tanzanians). In summary corruption and poor implementation of investment, laws are slowly killing Kenya’s competitive advantage. Uganda will follow the Tanzania SGR, Ethiopia with plans to extend it’s railway to South Sudan is quietly walking away from the LAPSET project, they already have an electric railway linking them to Djibouti, which is planned to be Africa’s second-largest port after Durban, South Africa. The Uganda oil pipeline has gone to Tanzania. How many cases of covid have you reduced? Can you quantify?
Its cost 40k more per container via sgr, translate that to the 9 trains per day.net effect is a loss.
This is informative, however we also request that you interview our neighbours Tanzania. Its good to have their side as well. So that we can tame propaganda.
Interview TZ for what? We’re competitors in this field and so far, we’re ahead.
Noted. Thank you for the feedback
If the govt does something positive, we should applaud them in the same manner that we ought to criticize them when they do the opposite. I don't see any propaganda here. The Road trucking industry is obviously not happy because the inefficient and costly road system was very profitable to them. The overall gains are more than any losses especially in the long-run.
Alex Chamwada, that’s a very good report Alex. Even though there will be casualties, it’s certainly not our roads. SGR like all game changers has to face and wither many storms but eventually, it’s the future.
Tanzania Wana Majivuno wata Anza kusema tuna tafuta ushauri kwao, I have been in many comment sections they are not really happy with our progress and they see us a competitors

Come up with new way and ideas to keep the economy....
Truck business will still be there
Which jobs are these Macharia is talking about? We are not small kids. Let him publish the data on jobs created by SGR so far.
jobs were exported to China...
I love this gentleman for his well spoken English
Do we have to kill mombasa for naivasha n sgr?
Mombasa is not being killed. They are saving the roads and most importantly saves costs for transit goods.
If you look at it, decongesting the Mombasa port through the Naivasha icd means more countries will use the Mombasa port for efficiency, it’s actually a boon for Mombasa
@@antony6799 yes it is. Mombasa is too congested thus the inland depots and current expansion
Since Kenya is a free market economy consumers should be at liberty on which mode of transport to use.....btn road hauling and SGR.

I wish for the day that counties will adopt the Vision 2030 Development Document and align their individual county development programs with these documents, by creating laws that will caution and protect their county inhabitants. The rich have read this document well and the poor "rich" with no clue are selling off their lands only to regrate later that when the Railway passes on their former ancestral lands. County Governments stands to benefit more. Governors must pick their development plans from this vision and the whole country will move in the same development direction. Don't wait for the National Government to awaken you.. strategize by creating Sovereign county laws before the GOK knocks on your door.
Why an inland depot at naivasha is the question. Why have a inland depot at naivasha instead of malaba, kisumu or busia which is closer to the border of uganda.
Because SGR has not reached in any of those towns yet
we already have the old railway line which gets there
The funny part Uhuru couldn't convince Chinese for furher funding for the Sgr. Sgr ikakwama kwa mashamba yao.

Could it be Nairobi/ Nyanyuki line were rehabed because of politics? Un rehabiliated lines for your information are Voi to Arusha via Taveta, Nairobi to Kisumu, Nakuru to Eldoret, Naivasha to Nyahururu, Nakuru to Solai, Eldoret to Kitale, Kisumu to Butere, Eldoret to Malaba.
Why naivasha why not kisumu
Because naivasha is near Nairobi
Funding
Dumping doesnt happen, you part with a customs bond and when goods have departed the Kenyan territory, you cant claim your bond back upon prove of departure of good signed & verified by KRA
Agreed and use of the SGR is not a solution to corruption at KRA and the Police. They need to employ people with integrity and investigate the dumping. Even if dumping occurs you can't punish the people of coast for the sins of other (including the government you serve). BTW there is no evidence that the SGR will stop dumping since KRA and the police will still remain in charge.

Personally I am not against SGR. What I resent is the government's decision to force ALL importers to use the railway. Come on there has to be competition. Meanwhile how is it that the SGR is now more expensive than road transport ?
Also why is government touting imports from Mombasa and not promoting exports?
By the way talking of disruptions, this is not the first time we are seeing this kind of disruption. Does anyone remember the eighties when the oil pipeline was constructed from Mombasa to Nairobi and ultimately to western Kenya?
It’s now optional
Why should a muganda tell kenyans what to do?
Good work it's only watu wa pwani how ar against it

Yap they must be against it bcoz of their own economy and so many youths have lost their jobs why didn't we use the Nairobi dry port instead of building up another dry port in naivasha.

Why hasn't the SGR made any profits in the last 3 years since it's inception?!
@ Kabutha ....most of the railways world wide have never made profit.
The main purpose of railway world wide is easing cargo movement and other benefits associated with railway infrastructure

Naivasha becomes a new hub...at the expense of the people of Mombasa
Both will be hubs. No one can take the fact that Mombasa has the ocean and Naivasha doesn’t. Having both increases the efficiency.

@@nairobinyeusi5811 kisumu does have a icd pay attention so will malaba but at malaba it will be mostly for KRA to inspect if goods on transit are properly paid for and are as stated in their documents from mombasa.

Ask yourself does it make sense for a train to pass all the places i have mentioned and proceed all the way to Naivasha only for the owners of containers to go to Naivasha and bring the containers to Nairobi yet the train passed the same Nairobi on its way to Naivasha?
There is a Nairobi ICD @Embakasi. How and why on earth would cargo head to Naivasha and back to Nairobi!? And considering you will be paying 108 drivers and turnboys, the cost is much higher, and dont get me started with traffic jams and increased risk of accidents as well as quick degradation of roads. Trucks are more sensible to use if the distance is less 200km
@@Leo-bi4he That is common sense. As a Hauler, it cost me less to haul using trucks here than it cost using the SGR. I know hat you are talking about. I am talking about the retail end as a consumer of the service. That is what you are not getting. To haul a 20" Container from Mombasa to Nairobi by truck cost US$ 850.00 door to door.
