I fell in love with Kisumu when I was a student at the Maseno School 15 years ago. I have visited the place 5 times ever since. The city is so beautiful and super clean. When people from my native Central visit Kisumu, mostly for Maseno university graduation ceremonies, they all come back with stories about the charm and cleanliness of Kisumu City. Unfortunately, kama mtu hajatembea out of his village, he will propagate myths about other parts of Kenya.

I lived in Kisumu near the airport for 3 years and I fell in love with the city. Rent was affordable, transport is cheap, food was cheap except for fruits, and life was generally good. The nightlife is vibrant. Although I moved out, I feel I have unfinished business in Kisumu and I shall return one day.

@@kennedyochieng_ken behind the buildings, the developing infrastructure taking place there are people that make the place what it is. Good or bad. If the media only portrays the negatives it's not up to the outsiders like me to come to your rescue and change the narrative. I'm sure you're smart enough to know that change comes from within. Do your part and not blame others. As to the Chamwada show good job.

I spent my January in Kisumu and this lakeside city has the best roads in the country.
Not even Nairobi has such a smooth flow of traffic.
Interestingly, most of the infrastructure appeared newly laid down or refurbished.
    I long to be back.

I once passed Kisumu on my way to Homa Bay. I think Kisumu its the cleanest and coolest city in Kenya. Within the City you must adhere to speed limits thanks to the Traffic Police in Kisumu. The People are very friendly like the Boda Boda riders and etc. I would say the biggest enemy of this Country is Politics.

The media in developing world should re-discover their historical purpose in nation building. 99% of media content in this country is all about sensationalist bent: retrogressive politics, corruption, crime, poverty and witchcraft.
An objective coverage of positive, feel-good content contributes to the overall development agenda of a nation.
It's a pity CHAMWADA is the only media house which has dedicated 100% resources into reporting on, and highlighting the positive. If you think Kisumu has received positive development in the past decade, wait till you travel 50 kilometers across Kiboswa hills to another gem in the crown of western kenya: Kakamega!!

The name Kisumu was derived from two words Kisuma and Kisumo. Kisuma, a place for exchanging goods with our neighbors. Kisumo, a place where Luo clans that had suffered calamities like war, famine or floods would gather to receive aid provided to them by other Luo clans. The name Kisumo was derived from the word "sumo" meaning charity. Kisumu also hosted the weekly clan elders meeting that took place on every market day. This meeting was presided over by the Ker (Overall Luo leader) and still takes place today.

Don't you know that it has always been the Media's agenda to portray Nyanza and Kisumu as backward. "They even call their leaders Lords of poverty" yet they are the main players behind major infrastructures in the region. Currently the hycinths are 90% cleared and a port is under construction but you'll never see this on TV because they are devoted to spread bad news. KTN is not part of the royal media that's why you are even seeing this.

The main problem in Kenya is our mainstream media focusing only on the negatives and politics and creating a negative and pessimistic energy in the country.. if we had more positive stories like these ... Kenyans would come to appreciate the development taking place in various parts of the country... from Kisumu to Moyale... from Mombasa to Kitale and Nyeri ... of course Nairobi etc and it would energise the population to forge forward... it is important to point the negatives happening in the country... but in Kenya it is overdone!!!sad.

Kampala is a great city, with some capable management in place since the Kampala City Council Authority was inaugurated. It is the safest city in East and Central Africa for pedestrians, and residents. With the revolutionary SafeBoda, there is no reason to fear the ubiquitous BodaBoda bikes. The city is also the party capital of Was Africa, with a feisty, affordable, no holds barred scene.
It is, on the downside, a very big construction site. Over 200 junctions under signalization, and an intense urban sprawl as the middle-class builds up; apartments and houses.

As one who lives in Kampala i realise that KLA is overgrown and overwhelmed in population and development . Unlike Kisumu , Kampala is not very well planned or managed and land is arbitrarily mismanaged due to personal ownership by individuals and overpopulation . Kisumu has a better chance to set standards , plans and rules NOW but should ensure not to squander that NOW rather than wait until its too late . Decide what the organised city will look like now and manage it towards that rather than later when its too late .

The last time I was in Kisumu is before the year 2000 when I visited the Lake Basin Development Authority as a group of Water Hyacinth Management and Control study consultants under a World Bank financing to the three East African countries that share Lake Victoria water resource. I believe we spent the two nights we stayed in Homa Bay, Kisumu and Busia region we slept at a hotel in City Center. I am very impressed by the transformation that has taken place and I hope the next time I am in Kenya, I will include a visit to Kisumu in my itinerary at least 2-3 days.
