The kind of musicality and overall musical expression in performance that this group learns is unparalleled by any other. Marching activities are notorious for only teaching the technical aspect of music performance but that is totally untrue for this group. Really, really amazing.
"Marching activities are notorious for only teaching the technical aspect of music performance but that is totally untrue for this group." That's a gross generalization.
Great to see Vanguard doing the music from the stage once again. Going back to ones roots can be a rewarding experience both for the musicians and the viewers. Wonderful playing by a group of wonderful young people! Now that amplification is possible in drum and bugle corps, why not use celeste for the "collette" theme? It would add a mode of theatrical integrity relative to scoring.
Their NightBEAt show was amazing! 4th place is impressive considering the top three dominating corps. their pit is definitely really special, the frosting of the cake for this year's show.
It's refreshing to see Vanguard being Vanguard. No need for the drumline to be dancing back there every 10 measures or doing a bunch of drill. Just playing (mostly) clean and with musicality. Great work for being so early in the summer.
I realize that but where else are you boing to put the pit? The marimbas, chimes, bells, xylophones, etc. need to be down front. If you put them anywhere else, nobody is going to be able to heare them

I don't get how people can dislike videos like this... Did you have a bad experience with Les Mis as a child or something?
Wow...just rediscovered this...this was in JUNE?!?!
I am so exited to have these guys visit my high school this year
Vanguard always has my favorite book in DCI since Rennick went there in 2011. Its so great and i love it.
I could fan girl all day over SCV this is perfect
That is an INCREDIBLY clean percussion section. Bravo!
The BEST god damn front ensemble I have ever heard in my life. Holy shit.
When you realize this was in June... holy
This is beautiful. Thanks Ms. Fischer.
The bass line at 6:47! WOW
Great Les Miserablés percussion arrangement.
i was the 1,000th subscriber
7:11 my favorite part on marimba
Ok, I'm convinced. Having a good death glare is probably part of the audition material for the cymbal line..
Hey Paul Rennick...love your work here! :)
Like I've posted in other vids, it's just not fair to be this clean, this early! Great job guys!!
Its interesting being able to recognize a lot of this music
love the program this year. it has an old school Vanguard feel to it that is your essence of innovation and style.
Great to see you guys, really great year - - bring it!
Wonderful! An Incredible Percussion Score! Bravo!

Every marching band/drum core had to have had Les Mis as a show or a excerpt of it in their show. It's just like a law of the universe.
what just happened!? OMG this is a beautiful show and it sounds amazing! the red machine is coming!
I love seeing people smile when they play
It's so weird not seeing Dan on a Paul Rennick drumline after all these years.
Their NightBEAt show was amazing! 4th place is impressive considering the top three dominating corps. their pit is definitely really special, the frosting of the cake for this year's show.
I know the third/middle bass player, he was the bass tech for our high school's marching band
This is just amazing.
That marimba player tho! He's s'cute!
I just love the book so much.. Not that it's technically incredible or anything, but it's so musical.
OMG A LES MIS SHOW!!?? I HAVE NEVER HEARD ONE OF THESE BEFORE!!!!!
Also, check out 1989 Cadets.

Did anyone’s cool showed this?

This was my dream in Highschool. All I ever wanted was to join scv.... but then I joined the Airforce :/
I am so proud of my son Tai Tenisi
This snare line is dastardly.

That hug at 9:12 was epic.
That's what I thought, I heard Do You Hear the People Sing, I just wasn't positive because Crusaders also used that in their opener in 2011.
Perfeito demais.. #scv ^^
The pit sounds great
Paul Rennick, you are a god.
is that neil patrick harris on marimba?!
Awesome ✌️
Sick closer!
Nice recovery at 8:02
5:00 check out the cymbal player at the back insane!
Rope drums would have been nice to lead into the closing number. It would have added an authentic tonal contrast. Just a thought.
Yes it is. True story.
BTW, DAT BASS TUNING. :3
Great mallet parts.
Go Jonz!!!

This comment aged well
paul rennick does it again.
Nice
Bergerault seems to be treating them a bit better than Adams.
Kind of a weird question. What is that cymbal mount thing on the side of the marimba field frame? Is that a dynasty product??
is there a vanguard yell in this show? it didnt seem like there's a spot for it yet again..??
what song is that at 1:42?
do they have the same lead drum instructor as last year?
Their cymbals are so ripped, they p

+George Bush wow lol, and yes I was.
+George Bush I see you on all of these videos, I'm glad you support drum corps and SCV percussion Mr. President :)
+Ernesto Aguirre Vanguard all the way.
2:24 awk
The pit is just too overpowering these days, they really need to dial it down a bit or put them somewhere else on the field
If the pit is this big, the band must be huge. Besides, there's no where else to put the pit.
Jean McDowell
the ones in the back are the ones who march with the band
I realize that but where else are you boing to put the pit? The marimbas, chimes, bells, xylophones, etc. need to be down front. If you put them anywhere else, nobody is going to be able to heare them
Erm no. The pit is just fine. Pretty sure they are balanced with the band.
Oh when did you hear the full ensemble to make that conclusion?
