    Hi Ryan , I’m mani and I’m 17 years old and I’m playing tennis since I was 12 . I always had problems in serve and always disappointed during matches while making a lot of double faults, and after watching this video and practicing for a couple of weeks, I’m now serving way way better and Im so happy. Thanks a lot Ryan ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻

    I am 71 and I have never played so well. I tell my friends it's because of the party hat guy. I never had lessons and I love playing tennis now. My friends aren't listening but I am beating them because of you. I wish I sinew this stuff when I was a kid.
    I played my 42 year old son for 6 hours today. Just couldn't stop playing. I love learning this game.

    Probably the most comprehensive tutorial on serve I have seen. Just while practicing the recommended steps, I could already feel the difference. The idea behind snapping your hand when it is hurt was in particular very illustrative and immediately helped me understand pronation. Looking forward to taking this to the courts!

    Thanks for the videos, my serve is improving every day. I would love to see you crank out 10 serves at the end of your video maybe even slo-mo the best one. It's been hard for me to break half-of-my-life poor form but I'm on the up-escalator. Recording myself helps. Keep up the great work!

  • @lancelessler7375
    @lancelessler7375 3 года назад +28

    I just turned 80 and my serve has become easier to return than I would like. I refuse to attribute this to my 'slowing down' but obviously, my serving racket speed has slowed down. I have taken notes about the fine points of the serve as you explained it and plan to take apart my current serving technique and build it back again BETTER. With improvements in accuracy of hitting my targets, increasing racket speed, and applying sufficient spin, I hope to squeeze out enough refinement to get to the point where my serve will become a weapon instead of a weakness. Your analysis should help considerably. Thanks.

    A continental grip would be like having the eastern forehand grip and turn the racquet slightly counterclockwise (for right handed players).

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 года назад

      Hmmm. Not sure I agree Sanjay. If I’m holding an eastern grip, I loosen my grip slightly so I can’t rotate the racket, and then I rotate the racket to the left (counterclockwise), I’ll end with a semi western. Right handed. If I rotate clockwise in the same example then I’ll get a continental.

  • @ska6811
    @ska6811 День назад

    This is a brilliant lesson, as many have said. I'm a 60-yo low-grade suburban competition player, who had some additional lessons a couple of years ago specifically to get more pop on my serve. That coach introduced me to the idea of winding and unwinding, and trying to get a bit of a sling shot action with the elbow and forearm.
    But I hadn't come across the "knock the party-hat off" action. I tried it this afternoon, and within just a few serves I could feel it working! The improvement in the sling-shot action was pretty well immediate.
    As an extra benefit, even after a couple of hours of practising it and using it in 2 sets of doubles, I have no soreness at all in my shoulder, which i might have expected on trying a new action. I'm thinking that's at least partly due to a pretty smooth transfer in the direction of the momentum that this action generates.
    I still have a lot of work to do on the whole chain of events, but this near-immediate success is really rewarding and exciting.
    With reference to your other similar video, I'm not sure I'll ever get to 100 mph, but I'm sure gonna give it a try!😅
    Thank you so much.🙏

    Incredibly informative, thank you! You are thorough and seem very positive, supportive and non-judgemental as a coach. I'd really appreciate it if you'd talk about muscle tension and how it should and/or shouldn't feel like when serving (in your arms, knees, shoulders). Also serve placement, how to aim. (besides repetition) Is it in the body position or in the racket motion? Bonus question: My coach said that i should toss the ball with my palm facing up because the "drink holding" way is unreliable (but i naturally use this "drink" toss and i agree with you, it prevents you from bending your elbow) Should I try both or just use the "drink" toss right away? Greetings from Greece!

    Hi Ryan. In this video you demonstrate in Step 6 you talk abour pronation. I might not be getting this, but if I could naturally pronate my arm like that I would have learned how to pitch a screwball was I was a teen. BTW, I'm turning 61 this year, and just trying to get back into a game I was used to be pretty good at. I attended both Port Washington Tennis Academy out on Long Island, and Ramey Tennis Camp in Indiana and Kentucky. Now I'm trying to bring back some of my former form as a weekend player.
    TMI. Thanks and God bless,
    Genesius🙏🎾

    Good job on the video! question while you actually contact the ball with your racket: do I need to hit it towards my target or more upwards?

    What happens if you don't do check point 6?
    Are there any alternatives to checkpoint 6?

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 года назад

      At worst your strings will face down. But it’s best to be loose enough that the racket turns to the side after contact. So facing down is the alternative. 😊👍🎾

    Question, why bounce the ball? I started it and sometimes stuffed up the bounce so decided it was a waste of time and focus for me. Why do players do it?.
    I like the idea of serving quickly, like Andre Agasi, then moving to next serve. You video on how to get the 100mph serve is also great as I like the efficient motion and quick serve, so slowly working there from watching your videos, you are my VIRTUAL coach.

    Thanks Ryan for the video. I am watching a handful of tennis trainers on youtube and I really appreciate your videos. I also re-watch your videos after practicing. I wish I had this mind I have now and your videos when I was younger. Anyway, it is good to learn from you all the steps in mastering the technique.

    When you say that everything is just the opposite, it can be confusing.

    I am self taught I use to hit 120+ Mph serves at 5 foot 9. I never swivel my wrist I do a wrist flick. I also twist my body and drop my back into the ball as I fall forward. My ball toss I am told is way too low but now I don't know how to do it any other way. I just learnt by tweaking my body ever so slightly jumping twisting hips dropping back dropping shoulder falling forward jumping slightly and flicking wrist early. Becker use to massively use his legs to serve I am exact opposite. I am satisfied with 120+ sometimes they squeeze through the fence out the other side that's when you know you have hit pro level serve. I would recommend if you want to serve faster get a coach otherwise you will learn wrong like me, shame I never learnt to use my legs properly - who knows what I could of hit. I have really grown however tinkering with my serve my own personal science experiment lol

    Remarkable instructional video! Could you please give your recommendations for placement (target) of the serve? Do you recommend adjusting the location of the toss, or the leading position of the body, or the position of the racket at the point of impact? Thank you in advance.

    Very intuitive. So, OK. You hold a glass of water. But, how do you hold the ball. Please slowmo how you release, free, unlatch the ball from your tossing /leading hand. What role does the thumb/fingers do. When do the fingers open for releasing the ball/glass at what level (eye/forehead) height.

    I have to be honest. I am a good server for most players, I hit maybe an ace a game average against different levels of opponents, I have trained with maybe 5 coaches at this point and none of them EVER talked about this "pronating". It seems very unnatural to me. I don't know if it is because I was already a decent server or if it is not that common, but you said to do it in EVERY serve? Can you serve a "Max speed" serve without doing that? Because it is so awkward for me.

    Ryan,Federer racquet goes back while knees coming up..the timing of leg drive and racquet crossing head should be at same time..I agree with birth day hat concept that’s good.. but timing of knocking hat is confusing us

    Great lesson. Here's an intersting lway to get your racket pointing down after the front arm releases the badd. As you front arm releases the ball make believe you are PULLING the strings on a bow back but instead of keeping the bow level make believe you are aiming at a 45 degree angle. What this will do is get your front hip out, your serving arm and shoulder below the front shoulder and in the right position to knock off the birthday hat.
