Thank you so much. I live in Callawassie Golf Community with a great tennis community. I'm sort of a 3.5 who cant get to 4.0 due to weak backhand. I just loved this video and have jotted down steps, have the dots on my right hand, and am going out to the ball machine and cant wait to practice. The Pro here always reminds me to swing and finish high. Now I now the three steps to get there and the great finish steps. Rock on. In Tennis!! Thanks alot. I just pinned 2Minute Tennis. Can't wait to watch forehand, and serve tips.
Let me make a statement. I have not ever seen a better explained video on this subject as of yet. How can you share such a vital information free of cost. Hats off to you.
Finally I found the holy grail of my old-style backhand. I am no Thiem nor Wawrinka. Modern beginners almost never think of using the knee bend. Some coaches tell their chest open up and face the net at finish, rotating torso even dragging the left foot to the side. It is so easy for beginners to get wrong ideas by watching the pros superficially.
I've watched a lot of tennis instructional videos and I think you're the first one who emphasized on having the elbows out!!! It seems to make sense! Thank you for that!
I agree. One of the best backhand instructional video. Thank you!! Your neighbours must have fun conversations about you, “Dang , I was going to cut the grass but he’s out there again doing an instructional video!”
The best thing I can say about Ryan and his strategies is that they are for everyone! I have found a lot of tennis coaches that are a bit let's say "arrogant", and just expect that the explanation they give you should make sense, and if it doesn't your "obviously not good enough", however Ryan answers any of your questions, and no question is every too stupid. He also loves the sport so much so that he wants everyone to go out and enjoy playing, despite what level you are at. And he is genuinely excited to hear about your progress. He is more innovative and motivated than many other coaches therefore that's why he gets so much positive feedback. And it is well deserved!
That tip about keeping that arm extended was an absolute game changer. I broke down all the tips and focused on one single tip per trip to courts. Fabulous advice!
Best single backhand lesson ever!! Provides detailed instruction , checkpoints . reasons for why each position is crucial for the next. Reviews several times for you to remind you of progressions during the presentation. Simply outstanding instructor. Wish he lived near me.
I have been practicing my one-hand backhand against a wall for the past 8 years. This demonstration is perfect and probably the only video you need for improvement. It took me 8 years on my own, trial and error to have a fantastic one hand backhand and I happen to perform all of the checkpoints described.
For some reason I do well on the well but when it comes to real action, I can hardly deliver! It’s like something about perspective changes the dynamics totally but I guess the mere presence of a net and an opponent on the other side, can throw off the nerves. The wall just doesn’t translate as expected at lest in my experience
Best Ever!!! Single one handed backhand lesson. Good detail, great checkpoints, and he reviews several times while going thru progressions and how and why they link up. Outstanding. . AAAAA++++
Your videos are incredible! You really help break down complicated concepts into simple steps that’ve transformed my game. Thanks and keep them coming!
Thanks Ryan. What a comprehensive 21-min session how to execute a one handed back hand. Let me tell you one thing I have never seen a tennis coach as passionate as you are. You are a legend Ryan!
You have forever fixed my serve mechanics, Backhand and Overhead. Unbelievable! For 40 years, I thought I knew what I was doing but was only deluding myself. My Backhand was a mess. I didn’t really know what I was doing until I saw your video and watched it several times. It made a lot of sense and so I practiced it three days ago. On the third day (today ), I used it in my doubles match. Awesome. The Overhead was another skill I had difficulty with until I watched your video. Amazing now ! But the technique I really wanted desperately to fix and own was the serve ... and I have you to thank you for. Like I said, the serve had been my nemesis for 40 years. But not anymore. What made it possible for me to have it was all because of your “birthday hat” analogy. The moment I saw that, my Brain kicked in. I saw it. This was a two weeks ago and I practiced it during the day at the club and at night (shadow practice) at home. I must’ve put in a hundred hours just on the mechanics. It was like an awakening. Thank you so much Ryan. I couldn’t have done it without you.
Wow. First of all, thank you for trusting me to help you with your game. That means the world to me. And second, the fact you took time out of your day to let me know how much the videos have helped you is simply amazing. You made my day.
Thank you coach! I am an amateur and I only had the backhand slice. Your instructions with checkpoints has enabled me to try and develop a good backhand. I am making progress and thank you so much coach 🙏🏽
Wow you are really amazing with such microscopic points. I am a beginner at 60 years of age. Picked up tennis 2 years back. And totally hooked on. All of you what you show feels a dream😅
Thanks for such a clear explanation! I am from Argentina. Today I discovered your channel and I can't stop watching your master classes! Today I start training my backhand!!!!!!🎾
This is a fantastic and brilliant way of driving home all the points ! 👍 Thank you for this, I can hardly wait to practice it on my own! Hats off to you Ryan🎩
Thanks Ryan really engage with the concept of understanding each checkpoint and getting it right to help the next. In the past having seen other videos I think I have tried to focus on checkpoint 5 as the fix to my backhand but neglected a couple of key things to get right on the previous checkpoints. I have so much more confidence in the consistency of my backhand and it is now a real weapon
Awesome instruction Ryan! I'm excited to put this into practice. I've also made a note to watch this video on a regular basis to absorb every last golden nugget.
for recreational players like the most of us, these checkpoints are so helpful. At game speed, most of us revert to our old usual habits and this helps reinforce that a change is needed. Appreciate a ton!
Thanks Ryan, love your videos. For some reason most other RUclips instructors bore me, but your videos always stay fun to watch, plus they're both practical to implement and often also quite concise which I appreciate. I purchased 2 of your mastery courses: serve, forehand and now here for the backhand. Gonna be really helpful to get these strokes optimized so I can grow further into more advanced stuff from a solid base.
J’hésitais à abandonner le revers à deux mains (que j’ai adopté il y a 20 ans) et à revenir à un revers à une main (moins exigeant en déplacement) mais ce vidéo m’a convaincu. Explications brillantes. RYAN: I was hesitant to abandon my two-handed backhand (I’ve been doing it for 20 years now) and to go back to my original one-handed backhand but this video just convinced me. These are cristal clear instructions. You are a very talented instructor. Thank you so much.
Unbeliveble!!! What a one hand backhand class!!!! I`d say `` awesome, terrific`` . I`m gonna ``spread`` your video to my friends down here in Brazil. Thanks so much, coach Ryan. Great hug!!!
Brilliant video as usual Ryan. You've got the best tennis instruction on RUclips. I love the way you break the various strokes down. Please move to Ireland!!
Wow Art. Thank you. I’m so happy you like the videos. I’ll continue to make them. Ans if you have. Video topic you’d like covered just let me know. Thanks so much!!!
Very very good, Ryan. I was sceptical at first but every second of your 20 minutes gives valuable info. Totally agree with Cam Lendrim below: it is the best exposition of s/h b/h I have seen.
Very well explained my left handed backhand topspin backhand is erratic I do a lot of what you said but needed to know how to consistently get beneath the ball to feel confident of imparting topspin in order to consistently keep ball in court. You show how to do that very clearly and I can do that in my shadow swings so now need to practice with balls. I think I can improve my backhand from your video. Your description is much more comprehensive and detailed and explained than the other RUclips coaches I have watched. Thanks for sharing your expertise so clearly and fully
Thanks so much for these immensely valuable tips! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each of your videos! The checkpoints were like the aha moment! Light bulb went off
Love your channel, Ry Baby! For the forward swing, our coach tells us to “open the garage door”. It’s a great analogy because your hand is even in the same position, ie palm down, thumb to the side. You just LIFT up! Boom. You got your topspin and you can now drive to work. Don’t forget to pick up the donuts.
This video is unbelievably instructive 😊 one biggest issue I've seen at the rec level for the 1HBH along with the "strings to the sky", and a mistake I used to always make, is trying to flex the wrist out too soon upon making contact with the ball, to resemble the Dimi/Wawa finish. The contact and finish have such a fast transition, that they almost look like one motion, so players get caught between the motions and don't finish the follow-through properly, which can cause injury. By watching analyses of Stan's BH instead of just trying to copy via tv, it actually helped remedy that by paying more attention to my loading and dropping stages prior to contact. Breaking down the basic motion of each stroke allows for a more natural replica, and this video captures it. The finish you demonstrate reminds me of the one I was originally taught from a former player, Bill Behrens, for a short while some years ago. Also Ljubicic-esque.
Another great tutorial session Ryan. Would have loved to see some attached short videos of the pros playing the shot as you have explained in the lesson. Thanks Ryan.
Wow , bravo, great lesson. Elbows position is a game changer and fairly easy to do, but the turning of the racket on the drop is the most difficult part to execute for me. Thks and keep sanding videos.
One Handed Backhand EXPLAINED!!
Ball gets too close to me and jams me, routines needed to keep me away from the ball, so I can step in with right foot.

Maybe a bad question, but at the drop, do you keep your eastern grip? Or do you turn it?
@@KhoaLuke usually keep it, when your grip is slipping and stuff it’s usually going to be bad

21 minute backhand lesson from 2MinuteTennis ... that's how hard the single handed back-hand is :)
This is the best instruction I've heard or seen for one-handed backhand. Many recreational players can benefit from this instruction.
Wow thank so much!!!
@@2MinuteTennis Agree and I coach.
Thank you Ryan.. this is too good to understand the nuances of hitting single handed backhand.
