  • G'day guys, today we are reacting to Nightwish Ghost Love Score from the Wacken Open Air 2013. I have no idea where this band has been hiding, but holy moly they are great. The singer has a wonderful voice and the way the song keeps changing is exciting to listen to.

Well, since this is your first Nightwish experience, I will give you "The Ann Waychoff" speech:
Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrulmentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now still is. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands. (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile)
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live.
I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol New sub here!
I would like to recommend "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013. Thank you!

On Nightwish reactions, there is usually a comment from Ann Waychoff, who is a superfan of Nightwish. She gives information to new Nightwish viewers. Ann is unfortunately ill right now, so she can't do this. The info is important though, so I'm going to give it. I can't improve on Ann and wouldn't try, so I'm going to cut and paste her comment from another video of someone reacting to the same performance of Ghost Love Score back in March, with apologies and all credit to Ann. Hopefully I'm not treading on anybody's toes here!
"I am so glad you loved this song.
I am going to give you some back ground information to help you get through their music! Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a female fronted symphonic metal band. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. I discovered them about 3 years ago. I saw them in concert in March in the US. They are unbelievable live. Their music has gotten me through some tough times. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol I would suggest "Song of Myself" live at Wacken 2013. I can guarantee that you will never get tired of listening to them. They have over 100 songs and they are going to put a new album out in 2020 then they will go on a world tour. Since I discovered them there has not been a day that I have not listened to them. Also I am not a young person. I am a senior citizen. Nightwish has led me to listen to other metal genres. Okay I am done babbling. But it is my duty to fill new Nightwish fans with information. Thanks for playing this song and getting the Nightwish journey started!"

Welcome to the wonderful world of Symphonic Metal!!
Nightwish have had 3 lead singers:
Tarja - who was all operatic vocals
Anette - who was mostly pop/rock vocals and finally
Floor - who can do anything and everything, from operatic to low metal growls... she truly is a goddess!
I have personally loved them since around 2004, they are my favourite band and Ghost Love Score is my favourite song of all time. I fell in love with it when Tarja sang the vocals on the studio version, but then Floor came along and made it even more epic!!
A few songs I would recommend:
Nightwish - Romanticide live at Wacken 2013
Nightwish - Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley 2015
Nightwish - Song of Myself live at Wacken 2013
Nightwish - Weak Fantasy live at Tampere 2015

Nightwish is from Finland (between Sweden and Russia in the northern Europe). The singer is Floor Jansen from Netherlands. She replaced Anette Olzon (who replaced the original singer Tarja [say like tar-ya] Turunen) in the middle of a tour and around Wacken (that's a festival near Hamburg, Germany) she had been with the band for two or three months. There is a 2-hour-long documentary with a title "Nightwish - Please learn the setlist in 48 hours".
As a Finn, I first heard of them around 1998-1999 but I didn't listen them much back then. Recently I decided to listen all their albums via Spotify because I watched a couple of reactors listen to this, "Poet and the Pendulum" and some other awesome live performances by Nightwish with Floor fronting them.

Welcome to the journey into the universe of Nightwish.
Keyboarder Tuomas Holopainen is the main songwriter and founder of Nightwish (1996) together with Emppu Vuorinen (guitar). Marco Hietala on the bass joined the band in 2001. He is also co-vocalist and has some very nice solo songs. Drummer Jukka Nevalainen sadly had to retreat 2015 due to health issue. His work for the band is now in the background carrying about management affairs. New drummer is Kai Hatho from the band Wintersun.
In 2012 Floor Jansen (After Forever, ReVamp) came in during their US Tour. She had to fill in for their former singer Annette Olzon and had to learn the songs within 2 says.
On the Wacken show she only did songs who had been written for the two former vocalists (Tarja Turunen 1996 - 2005 operatic style/ Annette Olzon 2007 - 2012 pop style).
Pick any song from this event, she did a real amazing job. Some even better than the original (just my personal opinion).
So... I thought I make a little list for you (navigation help). And here it is:
Songs you have to hear with Floor (now this is hard choice ;-) besides of every concert full length ):
    Wacken 2013:
    - Dark chest of wonders
    - Nemo
    - Storytime
    - Song of myself
    - Romanticide
    - Last ride of the day
    Tampere 2015:
    - Weak fantasy
    - Yours is a empty hope
    - Endless forms most beautiful
    - The islander (Marco solo)
    - Stargazer
    - Greatest show on earth
    Wembley 2015:
    - Shudder before the beautiful
    - Elan
    - While your lips are still red
    - The poet and the pendulum
Now, when it comes to the former vocalists, I have one problem. I can't tell you, which concert shows Annette in a good form. I think on the Exit Festival (2011?) the songs "Amaranth" and "Sahara" aren't that bad. (Sorry, Annette Fans, you sure know better ones. I respect your taste, but it's not mine)
End of an era 2005 (with Tarja):
    - The kinslayer
    - The phantom of the opera
    - Sleeping sun
    - Bless the child
    - Creek Mary's blood
    - Over the hills and far away
This list is (of course) completely uncomplete. The top of the iceberg, so to say.
    Have fun :-)

And for the BAZILLIONTH time a new Nightwish reactor gets to utter some version of the classic, "How have I never heard of this band before?", Hehe. I remember the feeling well, mate! I only discovered them myself a 2-3 months ago. Hang on for the Nightwish ride! We Nightwish fans LOVE to take a journey with someone just discovering them, as we get to relive our own joyous journey of discovery all over again. And yes, Floor Jansen the 3rd and current lead singer has had, as you guessed, classical vocal training.
looking at the videos you've reacted to in the past, I'm going to suggest you check out Nightwish's ballad "The Islander." There are a couple of choices: A BRILLIANT, sadly often neglected, and artistically beautiful music video (with 2nd singer Anette Olzon providing harmony vocals alongside the surprisingly beautiful vocals of the magnificently bearded bassist, Marco) that has a bit of a steampunk feel to it, or their live performance at Tampere in Finland, which has a warm charm to it. Nightwish's music has a variety of sounds to it (often in the same song as you've seen here, lol). The "Poet & the Pendulum" for example swings (pun intended) between a deeply beautiful, emotional ballad and harsh angry metal vocals, expressing the band's songwriter's (keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen) emotional turmoil after the band fired their original singer Tarja Turunen, whom he had known since they were classmates. That one is a bit of epic musical theatre you also might enjoy.

Thank you for listening to Nightwish.
    Nightwish is a Finnish Band
Floor Jansen is the new vocalist of the band. before her came Tarja Turunen
    and Anette Olzon
Floor Jansen is from the Netherlands, and Troy (Who isn't in this song) is from the UK.
Kai Hahto (Wintersun) does the drums now instead of Jukka Nevalainen.
Tuomas Holopainen (the one behind the pipe facade) is best known to be the founder, leader, keyboardist and songwriter.
Marco Hietala the Bassist is also a good singer you should listen to a sing where he sings, such as the Islander.
Emppu Vuorinen is just a great guitarist

Never heard of this band before? Well, welcome to the Nightwish community! They have some of everything - songs that are heavy, songs that are light, and several that are epic as hell. Anything from their live shows, Wacken 2013, Wembley 2015, Tampere 2016, plus some other venues since 2012 shouldn't disappoint. They all seem so happy these days!

"Why have I never heard of this band before?" If you're in the United States, you have never heard of this band because the big music companies are utterly terrified of this band appearing on the radio - most of their signed acts would have to get real jobs if that happened. In Europe, they are officially "huge". Nightwish is originally a Finnish (as in: from Finland) band that started in 1997. The drummer, lead guitarist, and keyboardist/song-writer all knew each other from music school...and all knew that each other had epic talents. The band was originally going to be an acoustic rock group, but the drummer said "I know a singer and she's pretty good, why don't we let her try out for the band?" When she showed up and started singing, they learned that she was a classically-trained Opera singer. The keyboardist/song-writer said "yes, she's in the band, and we're not going to be a rock band - we're going to be Heavy Metal." Everyone else said "What??", but they basically invented the Heavy Metal sub-genre of "Symphonic Metal" (there are several other Symphonic bands out there now).
The band has gone through through three vocal leads over the years. Tarja, the first one. Anette, who was more of a "rock" singer without the operatic training. And now Floor, who equals or exceeds Tarja in Operatic ability (she also works as a Classical vocal coach) but also has Anette's "rock" singing ability. Floor is from the Netherlands and joined the band in late 2012. There was lots of drama involved in the other two vocal leads leaving the band, and you can hear very biased stories about what happened - Nightwish fans will also come to near-blows about which singer is "best". Best not to poke that bear.... Regardless, you'll hear a lot of suggestions for "Live" tracks because if you go to the Album track, you get a different singer than Floor - and a very much different experience.
The most common first-suggestion "reaction video" makers get is for Ghost Love Score. The reason for this is that very few young people these days have heard of Pink Floyd or Queen's songs. So a very complex, long piece of music with many transitions where the song starts out as one thing and shifts into something else along the way is a revelation to them. Also for that reason, the most common "next song to listen to" suggestions are usually "Poet and the Pendulum (Live)" and "Greatest Show On Earth (Live)" because those are similarly fifteen-minute long pieces that transition a lot. However, >I< will suggest that you listen to their shorter, more focused and more impactful pieces. Specifically, I will suggest "Storytime (Live)". You've just heard something very "operatic"; Storytime is still Symphonic Metal, but leans more into the "Metal" end of their range - complete with Floor whipping her hair around in a complete circle over and over. If you've seen that, "Romanticide (Live)" is also good, with the Bassist and Floor both starting at the bottom of their range, rising to the top, and then back down simultaneously towards the end - very impressive to see.
You will also hear people making jokes about "Floorgasms" in the comments here. That's not just a play on Floor's name though. If you watch lots of live shows with Floor, you can see the camera pointing out into the audience while Floor is doing her thing - suddenly some girl in the shot will have her eyes roll back in her head, her mouth open, and she will shudder there for several seconds before slumping forward. "Floorgasm" - it's a real thing that happens to some women at their live concerts....

Nightwish, with Floor Jansen. Many will request to react to several of their songs now and I will agree with them all, they're all amazing. Just to throw out some song names - which will be repeated by many and they'll be all right, those are amazing - Poet And The Pendulum, Romanticide, Greatest Show On Earth and well, really, anything and everything else.

Welcome to Nightwish mate, you are in for a treat! They are quite versatile, so I had a quick look over your channel to figure out what you might like. You got some requests for their heavier stuff already and that's fine, but really early they started off with folk tunes and sometimes they still incorporate that. For an example of that try "I want my Tears back" from Wacken 2013. This will also introduce you to a band member not present here, Troy Donockley, a multi-instrumentalist who took it upon him to learn the Uillean pipes, Flutes, Guitars and some more. Have fun!

Was pleasantly surprised to see this in my feed as your next reaction. Nightwish are one of my all time favourite bands, and I got to see them on this tour when they were in New Zealand. At that time Floor Jansen (the lead singer) had just taken over the reigns as an interim singer after their previous singer (Annette) left the band mid tour.
The band are a Finnish Symphonic Metal band - and have had 3 singers in their time Tarja Turunen (operatic trained), Annette Olzon (more pop/rock vocal style), and Floor Jansen (Dutch - also classic trained) who is an absolute Valkyrie Goddess as the lead vocal since 2013.
Tarja was removed from the band after the End of An Era tour in 2005. A few good reaction songs from that concert are "Phantom of the Opera", and "High Hopes" (pink floyd cover sung by bass player, Marco Hietala).
As far as I can recall, all original songs are written by Tuomas Holopainen - (keyboards).
Other songs from the Wacken Open AIr (huge European Metal festival in Germany) "Romanticide", "Song of Myself", "Story Time:, - personally i love "Last Ride of the Day"
Wembley concert of 2015 - "Poet & the Pendulum"
Tempere concert in 2016 - "The Greatest Show on Earth", "The Islander" - also sung by Marco.
I hope you enjoy your delving into the immense joy that is Nightwish - welcome to the fold.

The drummer here, Jukka, sadly had to step down in 2015 because of his insomnia -- sleeping 2 or 3 hours a day for 3 years. Kai Hahto, the drummer for Wintersun, is their current replacement.
And if you like Ghost Love Score, I highly recommend Ever Dream from this concert (Wacken 2013). It's basically a mini-Ghost Love Score in how it's put together, and the combination of drums and Floor's voice is...a Falcon-Punch to the feels. First time I heard it, it hit me in a place I thought had died within me, like being shocked with defibulators. Floor has the most powerful voice I've ever heard to evoke emotion in a metal band.

Nightwish are a band from Finland who started in 1997 with singer Tarja Turunen (an opera singer and school friend of keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen) who was kicked from the band in 2005 when she started putting her opera career before that of Nightwish. Tarja was replaced by Swedish pop-singer Annete Olzon who left mid-tour in 2013. She was replaced by Floor Jansen (in the video) from Holland who wasn't an official member yet at the Wacken 2013 concert as she was called-in last minute to replace Olzon on the tour. Jansen has been in After Forever from 1997 to 2007 and had her own band ReVamp before joining Nightwish.

You look like a guy (like me 🙂) who would Love my favorite song. But Nightwish songs.. before hearing the song, you should do a little research lyrics.. etc and MY Favorite the MASTERPIECE: "The Greatest Show On Earth" live in Tampere, Finland.
Heres a little insights: it's over 20mins long and hav devided in 5 different parts. First one called "four point six" meaning billions years ago. It travels through planet forming, stars... water, plants, dinos, all the way to the present time. So its a about evolution on earth. Truly the greatest show on earth. We are just to close to see it and understand it. But this one helps :) btw checking out the lyrics before video helps. Theres a part "We were here" Goosebumps everytime... And talking about the Song itself. Truly a Masterpiece from the Mastermind himself Mr. Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards). He writes 95% of everything. Everyone should see and hear this masterpiece. Been in concerts: Metallica, GNR, Maiden, Mötley, Bon Jovi.. etc.. (and now Nightwish) i never thought that the band whos Really got something to say i found it here in my own country. Kiitos (thank you) Tuomas :) Check it out all the way to the ending credits and thank me later. With eng sub ruclips.net/video/N6QvZdgYR0A/видео.html

nighwish is a finnish band, started in 1996 and still going strong. 1st singer was tarja turunen she has a operatic singing voice. then they got anette olzon from sweden, she has a more popy style of singing finaly they found the queen dutch floor jansen.
the drummer u saw here was jukka he isnt playing with them on tour at the moment as he struggles with some sleeping issiues. so they have the drummer from wintersun with them now kai hanto an other great drummer.
troy joined the band about 2005 a multi instrumentalist.
there are a lot of songs u need to check out my preferance is floor of the singers but a ot of people mean tarja is the best and a few prefeer anette. Listen to the different singers and make up youre own mind. they are good singers all of them so it is a matter of preferance :D:D:D

The singer is Floor Jansen, she had a classical education indeed. Dhr entered the band in that same year, she took over from Annete (2nd singer). There is also a docu about how Floor entered the band, die uit 48 hours to make that concert (all the songs) her own. These songs were made for Annete's voice...
The "Floorgasm" was real, and you looked totaly flabberguested.
The final note from Floor is called the Floorgasm.
The Poet And The Pendulum is a master piece, it's long but you will be in an emotional roller coaster.
Great reaction, prepair for the Nightwish fans, Ann is the biggest fan.
