"Okay, I wasn't expecting that." Great reaction. I am 61 years of age and remember hearing the Simon & Garfunkel hit version a lot on the radio in the 60's and early 70's. I didn't even know what the words meant, I was interested in hearing Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's harmonies. It wasn't until I heard this version that I understood what the lyrics meant. For most of my life, "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues was my most favorite song but now it has been replaced by Disturbed's "Sound of Silence". I know this may sound crazy but from what I've heard in Paul Simon interviews, even he didn't understand what the song he wrote and sang meant. I know that when Simon saw Disturbed's performance of this song on Conan O'Brian's show, he wrote the band and told them, it was better than the original.
This was written in 1964 by Paul Simon, who was 23 at the time. It was originally recorded by ‘Simon & Garfunkel’. When this version came out, Simon called David Draiman of ‘Disturbed’ to say how much he LOVED ‘Disturbed’s’ take on his masterpiece. Draiman was (understandably) stunned. Paul Simon IS in the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, after all!!
This is the best cover of any song I have ever heard, though. The emotion that's put into it is real; very rare, indeed. When I first heard this, I was absolutely blown away. I may not be famous, but as a performed with over 30 years under my belt, I am not easily impressed -- this version definitely shook me to the core.
@@johndeeregreen4592 Disturbed's cover of 'Silence' *is* amazing, but I'm afraid that the title of "Best cover song ever" goes to The Man in Black himself, Johnny Cash, for the cover of Trent Reznors' "Hurt". Check it out and tell me I'm wrong.
I heard the story of the Draiman/Simon conversation differently. The version I heard was that Draiman called Simon to get permission to release the video. Simon was playing a fest in Maui, and said that he was so impressed with Draiman's version, he invited him to join him on stage in Maui. Draiman said that he was floored by the call, and went to Maui.

I have to give kudo's to one person who described it best , Simon and Garfunkel's version was a "whispered warning" and Disturbed's cover is "a battle cry"
The funny thing is the song really is a warning. Garfunkel summed it up as "the inability of people to communicate with each other, not particularly internationally but especially emotionally, so what you see around you are people unable to love each other."

I saw a guitarist analyze it and he was saying that for a singer to go up 1 whole octave is an achievement David Drainman here goes up 2 full octaves to cover both parts of the vocals and he switches between them so effortlessly. Having been a fan of Disturbed since they released Down with the Sickness I knew David had an impressive range but even so every time I hear this I'm stunned and blown away every time.

I don't think anyone expected this. It was such a departure from their normal body of works. But man, did David deliver on the vocals and the expressions in his close ups. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel did the original back in the early 60's. After this version came out, Paul Simon gave his approval. When the writer or the song gives their nod, you did justice to the song!

I’ve never seen you look so mesmerized by watching a video. That was great. I love Disturbed. They’re local to my hometown, Chicago. You gotta hear more. Try the song, “The Light”. It has a positive message!
Yeah, this was a fantastic cover. The vocals were so good.
Absolutely loved your reaction lol Same as my first reaction to hearing it. Gives me chills every single damn time.
Great reaction mine was very similar the first time I've heard it. I just subscribed your great. This version is fantastic I can't get enough of it
Dude, please react to the live version on Conan o'Brien it's awesome 👍 I am new to commenting and I have a few suggestions for you! Also hi everyone 😊 xxx

@@Its_Me_Andie cool
Yes, the conan version is even better!
Disturbed did a Live Version on Conan. Pentatonix just did a cover of it as well.
Just so great watching your reactions. And like so many other reviewers, at loss for words. Thank you for sharing the music and yourself. fran NM USA
Mind blowing with headphones on for sure
Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel did the original back in the early 60's. After this version came out, Paul Simon gave his approval. When the writer or the song gives their nod, you did justice to the song!
thankyou for an honest reaction to this FANTASTIC song.
Having watched several of these reaction videos to Disturbed 'Sound of Silence' it seems the main thing people say is an awed 'WOW!" Sometimes many many times.
GREAT DISCOVERY FOR YOU... KEEP GOING!!! I've said this before and I'll say it again... A 1964/65 song, written by Paul Simon and re-imagined by Disturbed in 2015; datz 50 years!! For me, this is by far the best ___ (song/video/cover; fill in the blank) these past 5 years!! This song literally ambushes you... catches everyone by surprise! The powerhouse vocals, the amazing arrangement, etc... just a great song incredibly re-imagined by a Heavy Metal band... done right.
Amazing cover! Song has always given me goosebumps!
Wow,I love your response it makes it better than any other reaction took that smirk right off your face you are now Disturbed
You got that right PG. Once this version gets inside your head it's stuck there forever. It is so damn awesome.
Great reaction mate, it looked like you thought he was singing right at you.
I get hardcore goosebumps when I watch the video
Amazing band live and David Draiman sounds this good !! Highly recommend some more. Prayer is a good place to start, a golden oldie 😁😁 great reaction, pretty cool that you had no idea what was coming 🎶🎶🎶🎶😀🤘
Loved your reaction, it was great !!! You were loving that, it showed. I am a true Home Fry, but I do listen to others, and I grew up with Simon and Garfunkel. This song was unbelievable great, best cover ever !!! David D has an amazing voice, I tried listening to their other songs, but just cant get into heavy metal.
David Draiman has such a powerful voice. I still get goosebumps when I listen/watch this video.
The first time i heard it my reaction is? OH what's this?,what the?, sound of silence?? And then speechless at the end!! Aamazing!!!
One of my favourites of all time, incredible voice, fantastic version of Sound of Silence. I want this song played at my funeral.
Your reaction was fricking awesome! I love Distrubed!!!
Disturbed is a phenomenal musical sensation, this version of the song sears the soul, boils with rage, the warning went ignored, now its the preface to apocalypse, awesome!
Such power. This can only be described as beautiful fury....great job
The first time I heard this on the radio, I didn't realize it was Disturbed...and I'm a huge fan of theirs! I honestly could listen to David Draiman sing all day and never get tired of hearing his voice. I think it's like chocolate for the ears, if that makes any sense.
First off. Disturbed is incredible been a fan for over a decade, glad you found these guys and can enjoy their great tunes.
Secondly, Definitely gotta react to the version they did live on Connan O'Brien.
Lastly, Simon once said that Disturbed's cover was their favorite cover of this song that they had heard.
Yes!!!! “the Opposite Of Silence”!!!!!!! Somehow I don’t think Paul Simon would mind that description AT ALL!!! Thanks for reacting!!
Check Disturbed "Down with the Sickness" and "Ten Thousand Fists in the Air"
I also really like Prayer
That song got me into Disturbed when I was 14
LOVE LOVE your reaction!!!! It is amazing!
"That's one way to make Simon Garfunkel sound good" love it.
Relevant when Simon and Garfunkel did it and terrifying when you hear Disturbed because it's more than relevant today, it's happening. Paul Simon loves their version. Fabulous rendition.
I love how Disturbed sang this with their twist. I thought it was amazing!
You are the only one I have seen so far that actually listened to it the right way with headphones. All the others have one earbud in and miss all the sound and intensity. 👍
Thank you. Thanks for watching.
L o L! AwZm!
Thnk you for your react. This song has such an IMPACT.
OWH! yes, REACT to some of the other DISTURBED songs...🙊🙉🙈
Paul Simon was more than pleased w the version, story tells.
Anyways Chill out, all the best from Arctic LoVe Islands, Norway
I love this song and I love his voice, I love that it’s different from their other songs, he sings is so passionately. You should really react to Disturbed, they’re amazing.
that right there is how david makes his fans. that song is stunning yet chilling. cold that seeps deep in your veins. love it
Excellent reaction to a most Awesome cover. I will never get tired of watching reactions to this version. Good job.
I have watched several different people's live reaction to this song. Everyone reacts as you did. WOW!!!! Is what they all have said. 6:03 "What is this band Disturbed? I've got to listen to some more of that." Disturbed normally does not sound like that. I love their music, but this is a whole different level. I have never heard something that moved me as much as this. His sound is so pure and raw at the same time. Amazing! I could AND have listened to it over and over. The official video has some powerful images as well. Worth every second.
