Not only is David one of the best singers alive today, but he is also humble and kind. I have watched several interviews with him and I am extremely impressed. I have worked in the mental health field for over 12 years, primarily in crisis services and Dvid is such a great advocate for mental health.

There's a video out there of David Draiman stopping a concert to comfort a little girl he scared during a Disturbed show. It's really beautiful.

Everybody talks about David's voice, but lets show some love for the arrangement, the instrumentation, and the execution of the entire song. The strings are gorgeous, the guitar is subtle yet striking, the piano sets the tone, the timpani set the mood and David's voice leads the charge.

David Draiman... one of the best male vocalist's on the planet imho. His voice is so rich and full. If you listen, he can actually put vibrato on distortion, which is extremely difficult to do... the man has unbelievable power and control of that beautiful voice! Loved your reaction and commentary.

His voice is so beautiful here, even better than the Conan version. The passion is still here, but it doesn't sound like he is ruining his voice.

    • @undeadMonk
      @undeadMonk Год назад +3

The Conan performance had autotune added, which is where the weird quality to his voice in that performance came from. Draiman asked the Conan sound team specifically not to do that, but because he was so sick they didn't trust his voice, so they ignored him and did their standard setup.

David and the band write many songs to help prevent addiction and suicide. They are fully committed. Other fantastic songs are "Hold On To Memories," "The Light," and "A Reason To Fight." David can sing anything, those songs are a beautiful example of His talent and the band.

A comment I have read about this cover is, the Simon & Garfunkel original was a warning about not connecting while this version shows the anger that the warning has been ignored as we slide into our cellphones & apart from the people sitting right next to us. Great reaction & breakdown.

I'm much much Love this version over the live version. To me the visuals Just like another member of the band. When Paul Simon heard David sing his song his song meant to sing it. On a side note David Originally went to school to become a cantor in the Jewish religion. The cantor Sing back with the rabbi has just read from the torah. Other good ones are a reason to fight which is a very personal Song to the band come on to memories, cover of stings if I ever lose my face in you. The other 1 is inside the fire which is about survivors guilt. When David was younger he came across his girlfriend that committed suicide. He has a PSA at the very beginning of the video. And the 1st 3-5 seconds is Particularly bone chilling for those of us who have Depression

My best friend’s uncle passed in late Sept 2023. Many months before he died, my best friend found out that his uncle’s favorite band was Disturbed, so they played this song at the funeral reception. The irony is - not only is Disturbed my friend’s favorite band but a lot of his extended family as well and no really said anything about it until after the service. It’s kind of crazy what playing this song brought out.
They’re hoping to get this song dedicated to their late uncle when they see them in concert early next year.
I got through the reaction without getting emotional which felt good. Awesome job.

Im glad you got to see this one, the video adds a lot to the song, and David was sick when he did Conan. Also, the producers autotuned him on Conan despite his protests, so this is a much better example.
the thing you pointed out about the ending with the 3 layers is also a reflection of how the song progresses. the first verse is piano, the second adds guitar and the third brings in the rest of the music in the third

Great review. It is good to hear someone breakdown the essence of the music performance along with the critique of the video. May I suggest another great performer you might enjoy, and that is Dan Vasc performing Amazing Grace. He is credited as a metal singer but has far more talent than just that genre.

Thanks to S & G for writing and recording this classic over 50 years ago, allowing Disturbed, Pentatonix and others to re-interpret the meaning.......a warning against an increasingly detached, unfeeling, cold society.......maybe more relevant today than in the 1960's......props to the cinematographer for the stunning visuals

Personally I genuinely enjoy when reviewers WATCH the video with the song much better!
It gives a deeper context, and is so much more intense.
The best way to share a passionate message, and THIS...
    David does it so sublimely:)
Simon and Garfunkle gave us the song as a warning, David shares his Hurt, Angst, and Angry Frustration that we have not heeded it.
I am SO chuffed that Paul Simon GAVE this song, literally to David, to pass. The message on.
In fact it is the ONLY song that Paul has a LINK to!
Powerful doesnt even come close to describing David and the Band sharing this with us.
I love how when someone sees the video, also understanding the subtle to the blatant, in your face message, that they are beseeching us to embrace and act on it.
Well done, this is in my top 5 reviews!
But will admit edits whilst the review goes on..
And how many of us have watched this prior..and watching now...
and feeling the chills, but also saying to the reviewer...
"wait for it...WAIT FOR IT!!" LOL!!
    That said,
Warm Mama Karma Hugs from the Weald:) XXX
