I've been shooting (and reading gun mags) for over 50 years and have often been awed by your work, but I really must thank you most of all for the way you always address safety - so very important for newer shooters to get and keep those good habits - love your work!

I really respect your attention to safety. it appears that you are so accustom to it that it has become second nature. Most people that I see being safe on a range look awkward and segmented, you just make it seem so natural.
Great information Jerry as always, you sounded like my firearms instructors from the Detroit Police Academy Safety First !! I'm retired now but still enjoy my shooting looking forward to more of your videos !!
His advice is more solid than most on RUclips, particularly regarding Safety First, even if scrutinizing his videos suggests he isn't as scrupulous on trigger finger position as he preaches. I have a fundamental gripe with blurring lines between learning handgun methods for Real World personal defense, and the competitive shooter world. As Jerry demonstrates, once the emphasis shifts to hyperspeed competition, inevitable lapses in safety accrue; his 30 yr. plus provide a margin that appears to have worked, but newbies who focus on anything but safe manipulation at all times are the ones who shoot legs, hands, bystanders, etc. A few rare people like him might actually draw fast enough in defensive mode, but for mortals with a gun already pointed at them, attempting this will be the last thing they do. Worse in my book is the idea that competition instills, i.e. you intend to pull the trigger as soon as you draw, rather than mentally assessing your target, what is behind and around it, before a finger goes to a trigger. If you live by the Four Rules, no innocent person will ever suffer for your errors.
This type of tips and technical insights are my favorite! I'd never get tired of watching something like this or that AR 15 - AK 47 comparison not just because of the subject but of the way you explain it ... Impressive knowledge and personality!

The "philipino" method spoken about originated with American shooters in the 1960's with the "Jordan" holster. Up until the 1990's the Jordan Holster was the standard in police holsters. The holster was canted at an angle with the grip forward of the muzzle and facilitated a smooth draw from standing or sitting (as in patrol vehicle). Later holster popularity had them straight and high and the "tactical" draw came about. People will debate these styles as forcefully as the 9mm VS .45 debate. But in the end what ever works best for you is GREAT!! Just train train train.......
It's odd that Jerry attributes the sweep method and calls it the Filipino Method from some 30 years ago yet I was doing that back in the 80's when competing. My take on it is the economy of motion, i.e., the shortest distance between two point being a straight line (or nearly straight) whereas the "American Method" has roughly three (3) distinct motions; pull out, rotate up (horizontal) then thrust forward. I find the first method helps to employ muscle memory whereby once the sites are on target, both hands are already locked together in grip and the trigger is pressed once the barrel/sights/target are aligned. That's my take on the subject and always seemed to hold me in good stead over a number of years of competition as well as when I carried a gun on patrol duty. Few in my department were as fast or accurate as I was and even some 30 years later I have a fairly quick draw/presentation/target engagement. Nothing like when I was in my late 20's to early 30's but at 61 I can hold my own, thank you. Thanks for the presentation, Sir. Overnout

I love the fact that you shoot finger around the front of the trigger guard. I wasn't planning on changing my grip to the "standard" grip anyway, for anybody, but it's still nice to see the greatest shooter in the world also using this grip. lol I seriously DO NOT understand why hardly anyone endorses this grip. It's night and day BETTER, then what's being taught. Period.

Not to nitpick or be an internet jerk but after watching the video I noticed Mr. Miculek adjusts his holster with his grip over the muzzle, in the holster, when the gun is condition 1 (loaded chamber) 8:42. It would probably never be an issue in 100 yrs but still technically by his own definition, not a good practice. Anyone else notice this? Very good video and 99.99% of people could learn a lot from Jerry, myself included.

He says NO finger in the guard until the barrel is level. He says he doesn't mount the trigger until the push forward. But that is not what happens in the slow mo opening of the video.
Mr. Miculek, What you said about never letting the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy...that was one of the safety rules that was drilled into me when I first became a gun owner. Well done. We ALWAYS use the blue gun for starting new shooters. Your style is about exactly like ours. Love your vids, I,very been watching you forever
3:00 Never put your finger in the trigger guard until the muzzle is parallel to the ground. But... 0:15 His finger is in the trigger guard from almost the moment the gun clears the holster.
I was trained as a US Marine and learned how to shoot a pistol for security forces. This was a great refresher as I am starting to get into the shooting sports.
He says, as the slow motion intro clearly shows his finger in the trigger guard immediately after it's out of the holster- and WAY before it's parallel to the ground... but he's a pro. Do as he says, not as he do. But in all honesty: much respect. World-class champ.

That's a cake walk for you. Lmao. Thanks for this instructional video. 💯💯👍👍😁😁
Seriously? Six people are questioning the worlds fastest shooter?
rocdarjar gm I guess you haven't heard? Everybody "thinks" they know everything online. lol
nfamousonline
evidently you do not know who is making this video .. back off troll
rocdarjar gm I was referring to those know-it-alls who were questioning Jerry, so you took my sarcasm out of context. Save the troll shit for anti-gunners.
nfamousonline

When they said “Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life”, that’s Jerry Miculek.
Jerry is like every gun owner’s grandpa. Always has knowledge to transfer and always a hoot. May you live a long and prosperous life, Jerry!
notice how hes not shooting a glock
Cause he's sponsored by S&W
Steven Stewart Yeah, I think S&W might have a problem giving him sponsorship money if he's caught shooting a Glock.
Once more , good solid , honest , experienced advice . Can't get better .
Very good information Jerry. Bits nice to have someone to fully explain tips and especially in terms of firearm safety.
Thanks Jerry! Always entertaining and educational. What’s your OWB holster?
I second this question
I love the expression "a more enjoyable adventure." I'm gonna borrow that.
Thanks for all the great videos!
Hey Jerry youtubes algorithm is showing your videos rarely compared to what it use to. Ive been subscribed everything, and for a long time alot of your videos would pop up easy. Im still subscribed and you will always get a thumbs up from me.
I'm impressed by the excellent videos made by shooters like this man.
Your the best teacher on the net!
I wish everyone would reach out and learn from the best.
Thank you for the time you give us.
Hi Jerry, your videos have made a huge positive impact on my shooting posture. Thank-you. Can you talk about your equipment, belt, holster, mag pouches, gun sight, etc... Thanks again....
I live in California and people like Jerry are rare here... he is one humble and sincere man with a lifetime of knowledge. Thank you for your videos, and all your wisdom sir. However, for all you folks out there handing out thumbs down for videos like this; ya'l need to come down from the heavens, and touch the ground every so often so your toes don't forget what shit feels like. 😊
Knowledge from experience .best instructor ever.its all about safety.safety.safety.safety.the hang of it will come with practice.
Sir your wisdom is truly appreciated. It's fun to watch you and even better to listen. Smiles
Great video Jerry! You actually put some things into perspective that I didn't think of. I've gotten a bit comfy with my comp and carry guns and haven't noticed some things that I do consistently wrong and potentially dangerous.
Fun and informative. Every time I watch your videos I want to get some range time. Can't wait for spring!
You are (as you've heard countless times over) the absolute greatest! Very much appreciate all of your insight.. Thank you!
This is a great video. I really appreciate the way you teach, which is by progression with no unneeded movements.
Thanks Sir. Always thumb behind the slide when going back to set.You gave this advice some years ago and it has been my practice since.
This Man has no peer...... A true Gentleman of the very Old School......who has nothing to prove, but everything to share..... Much Appreciation....
I was trained as a US Marine and learned how to shoot a pistol for security forces. This was a great refresher as I am starting to get into the shooting sports.
Thanks Jerry for slowing down enough to see what you do, so that we can learn from you. Great video..
Seems like a great bloke, very informative and genuine. Thanks Jerry!
He says, as the slow motion intro clearly shows his finger in the trigger guard immediately after it's out of the holster- and WAY before it's parallel to the ground... but he's a pro. Do as he says, not as he do.
But in all honesty: much respect. World-class champ.
