It's all fun and games, until something gets engraved that shouldn't have been...
Thanks for the introduction to a great new tool!
This is super cool, with more and more small scale fountain pen makers creating their own nibs something like this excites me for what the future may hold in that regard. I love to see the barriers to entry for such things getting made easier and this is definitely a laser engraver I'll be adding to my wishlist. Definitely hope to see more Doodlebud nibs in the future though hopefully not off centre next time 😂
Seconded.
I want to try engraving some other metal pens, use this with anodizing, and other materials like ebonite
I couldn't believe you centered it over the breather hole; I figured you knew something I didn't
Wow! What a neat machine.
Very cool! Thanks for showing off your Pecker, it was a ton of fun learning all about it. 😂 I've been seeing ads for them all week and I would definitely be engraving some nibs.
"This is my laser pecker" ... sure ... title of your s** tape. On a more serious note, great video! The quality of the engraving is impressive.
I have bunch more stuff I'm going to do with this
You satisfied my curiosity when you hinted you "maybe" reviewing one of these and now I really want one.
Tons of fun
That's a nice bit of kit, but my desire to purchase one was slightly tempered when I saw the UK 4-figure price. I'll have to start saving up.
Cool stuff!!
Super cool 😎
Pretty Cool DB! Would be great to personalize some pens! Wouldn't work for me as I have no "smart" phone. I also must have the most touch screen resistant fingers in history!
Ahhh you have dead fingers. I have that as well and it can be very frustrating
thats cool!!!!
Cool video. Can you do a coin to a depth test with several passes please
How is your 3D-printed fountain pen project going?
It's at a but of a standstill at this point
Hi! Thanks for the video. I want to ask: have you tried engraving on ebonite fountain pen bodies for now, after 5 months? How deep can the engraving be made? Could it resemble the notch on vintage Waterman's or Faber-Castell ebonite/hard-rubber bodies? Or better to look at the Laserpacker 2 with other wavelength of 450nm? Can Laserpacker 2 do engraving on a stainless steel nib like your?
This is awesome ❤ you’re the only person I’ve seen show different colour engraving on the same metal surface 🙂 is that easy to achieve ?
Just have to pay close attention to the settings for the material and keep notes so you can remember. Testing materials before engraving is the big step
@@Doodlebud thanks 🙂 does it actually engrave metal to just mark metal?
Note keeping was key when I started 3d printing 😂
Very Cool! I can see myself getting carried away engraving everything in sight.
Hmmm, laser tattoos anyone? (Kidding of course!)
I might have to zap a hot dog to see what it does
Time to bust out the cheap pens and practice nib engraving on those. It seemed like a tough undertaking getting it aligned on such a small area. Overall this is the most impressive engraver. If only they also had the desktop software to control laser power to get the color effects.
Yup, I'm going to busting out some pens and also want to use this in conjunction with Titanium anodizing
Yay!
I'm having a bunch of fun with this
Hey, just because you have one I think, but XTool has an IR engraving module. Not sure the specs, or if it is compatible with your frame, but I thought I would tell you.
Yeah I've seen that laser head that can be added on to the XY stage style. It's good but a fiber laser is very different in how it works along with the method of laser movement (XY vs Galvo). xTool does have their F1 system which is a Galvo with dual lasers (IR & 455nm). I'm curious how that one compares
@@Doodlebud Yes, for detail oriented stuff, I do agree that a fiber Galvo combo would be infinitely superior.
And I agree, that would be interesting to check out. Way outside my budget tho (albeit, that's me being a cheapskate, not being broke).
Does it accept G-code as an input? The LP4 supposedly does, so that should allow for difference in power within the same cutting session if you use an external program. (Albeit, I will admit, I don't know laser cutters, and I don't know the functionality of something like Lightburn.)
For this one, as far as I know, it doesn't take in gcode from other applications. To do layers, you'd need to create seperate images for each unique layer you'd want to do. The run the correct engraving profile for each image.
@@Doodlebud That does stink, but hey, at least there is a genuine value to an upgrade, unlike some products.
très cool
The quality is exponentially better on the pecker.
I was pretty surprised just how much better this was
@@Doodlebud I’m assuming that’s the LP4. Reasonably priced for a quality patented laser. Your reviews are pushing me over the fence.
“if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail”
I could engrave both of those!
I hope you are using really good eye protection andd not the trashy ones that come with these lasers! Your eyes are 100% worth it!
I've been looking at these. But the price ☠️
Yup they ain't cheap. There are some good ways to make money with these to recoup the cost
Ahhhhh, somebody slipped and hit there head on the toilet while hanging a picture of a DeLorean! That thing isn't even nuclear and it costs "21gigawatts"?...
So when they stop upgrading the app and it no longer runs, you're stuck with a useless chunk of technology? Nice video, though!
I'm curious if through a firmware update they could make if work running lightburn or something like that
