    Hola!

    I played for Mr.Gerhardt some months ago in Valencia (Spain). I played Dvorák horribly. He told me about bad traditions and recommended me to read the facsimile. I read it. I realized I played much much worst than I thought.
    He opened my mind and was very respectful and patient with me. Thank you, Mr.Gerhardt!

    Thank you for uploading this video. It is the first time I hear about the "earplugs" thing. I'm an adult violinist beginner and I have decided to order a pair of earplugs (I'm talking about special earplug designed for musicians ) on my very first month of lessons because I couldn't handle the power of the sound (my left ear just said "nope!") and I talked about their use to my violin teacher who didn't approve (I use the earplugs at home to practice but not during the lessons). My teacher told me using them will seriously get on my way to improve my tone and intonation. I'm very surprise to hear from such a great and experienced musician as Alban Gerhardt that not only this is not true at all but it can even help to totally improve the playing. I'll feel more confident about them in front of my teacher.
    I must say I really enjoy your "Talking cello with" serie. What I like from watching them is the realisation there is not "just one way". When we have a teacher we sometimes feel a bit lost thinking there is just one way and it is not working with us when actually there is plenty of other ways to learn. All those amazing guests come with so many different tips and exercices. That is a great view on what is the journey of playing an instrument.

    excelente acotación con el tema de conciencia corporal. Alban hace mucho énfasis por el simple hecho de ser el secreto de toda técnica, estar relajado, ser consciente de los movimientos y escuchar el cuerpo. exelente video

    Very funny and at the same time very instructive. What Alban says about earplugs is very interesting. I was lucky to hear him playing in León this summer. I hope to hear you playing soon in Madrid too!! Thank you very much!!

    Hola Pablo! Talking cello son excelentes videos que valen mucho todo el tiempo y esfuerzo que le dedicas. La mayoría de las entrevistas del pasado han sido en un ámbito profesional, tipo documentales de BBC, en cambio, talking cello es como ir a un café o kneipe a hablar acerca de música libremente con colegas músicos. Los subtítulos en español podrían funcionar bien para América latina y los países hispanos, el cual es un público amplio en el cual pudieras incursionar también.

    Does anybody know what kind of ear plugs he means?

    • @cecipalma2
      @cecipalma2 4 года назад +1

      The common ones you can buy at the pharmacy for isolating from ambient noise.

    • @albancello
      @albancello 4 года назад +5

      yes, these are the ones I am using right now, 33 decibels of sound cancellation, but much better would be custom made ones, which I used before, but my ears outgrew them... 🥴

    • @bendmymind486
      @bendmymind486 3 года назад

      @@albancello How did the custom plugs differ from the 33 decibel-reducing common ones? And what company made those for you? Thanks. Great exercise routine too. 👍🏻

    • @albancello
      @albancello 3 года назад

      @@bendmymind486 sorry, I don't remember which company had made my custom ear plugs (which I don't use anymore because my ears grew a little...). The difference? It sounds much nicer with the custom plugs, I should actually get back to them. The 33-decibel-foamy ones are pretty awful sounding, it's a huge handicap, but at the same time I feel having them in just makes me work much more musically as the sound is so unfulfilling...
