The Watts Towers were constructed by an Italian immigrant Sabato (Simon) Rodia over a 34 yr span. Of course that was one of the places besides the library that my grandmother took me when I came to California. Quite impressive.
A longtime friend of mine lives across the street from them. Glad that L.A. preserves, and respects these iconic landmarks. Now if they would open a George Washington Carver Museum, that would be a terrific point of pride for the community as well.

The thing to know about Watts and Watts Towers is that the community grew up around a rail junction for the Pacific Electric system that sprawled across the LA Basin before the Freeways. That interurban trolley service, one part still used by the "Blue Line" through Watts Junction had as it fastest service the line from LA to Santa Ana that branched at the junction. Remains of that right of way should be very easy to spot from the air, and as I recall the Watts Towers were built very close to the junction. Parts of that right of way have been blocked since the end of service in 1954, two years before my family moved to Santa Ana from the East. Knowing the railroad history of Southern California could be of help in understanding why certain parts are where they are today. From Long Beach those PE Red Cars also went as far as the pavilion still on Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach.You are familiar with most of the coast. Sunset Beach was on that line, and Huntington beach was named for Henry Huntington who built the Pacific Electric system, once the largest trolley network in the world.

1. Wilshire from downtown to the ocean
2. Malibu and Malibu Canyon (which hides the bizarre Rindge Dam that no one can see from the road)
3. Sepulveda Blvd. from one end to the other
Even if you can’t get these, much appreciation for your flying and driving videos!
How about aerial view of the railroads? Does LA have any big train yards? Really enjoy your videos! Dave

Port of L.A., Union Staion, City of Industry, and most notably, City of Commerce(which is the main gateway of L.A.)

Reading this three years later, post Covid, and we have a pursuit in the L.A. area almost every few days.
Based on your flight path on FR24 during your last flight, you literally flew directly over the house I used to live in in San Marino.
funny you mention the old hood you lived in, I too could almost see the pad I had over by the pier off Venice Beach..a block away. Fun eh?
"The Galaxy plays soccer, so that's the round ball... ". Dude, you " quack" me up. I lived in LB 1980-1987, had a great time. Still visit friends near CSULB a couple times a year. Mostly when it the dark, grey, wet part of the Seattle year. Really enjoy your Air Tours over the entire basin.

Lynwood was known as the all American city, great j.cs. my dad help build John Hamm park back in the 1960s,it was a fun place to grow up and live!!! Thank you uncle bid

Fun fact, those buildings right next to the Galaxy stadium are Cal State Dominguez Hills. Not the most flashy or glamorous college campus, but a real school!
Yessss! No, that's all that's in Watts. The towers are being renovated like you said. They've been covered for a few months. Great flyover. I live in Willowbrook which is close by.

OK you are bringing back memories. When I came to California in 1972 I lived with my grandmother in Watts. I had just graduated from high school. I have friends in Compton and I use to visit Cal State Dominguez to bike ride, play tennis and walk around the track. I've gone to the soccer stadium for sporting events. Such wonderful memories.

How nostalgic, I went to Whaley Jr. high before it became a middle school. Your videos are great! Try flying over Kaiser, Downey Promenade, Columbia Memorial Space Center, and Independence Park. There is a draped over space shuttle on the north side of the park, next to the fire tower. That area is historic for the contributions to space programs.
I've always found the Watts Towers very sinister looking. But thank you for the great video. Nothing like LA at sunset
This is so cool! Love the 40' concrete donut on the roof of Dale's. The Watts Towers are a collection of 17 interconnected sculptural towers designed and built solely by Sabato "Simon" Rodia. Simon was an Italian immigrant construction worker and tile mason. (Wiki) Thanks for the history lesson Micah!

Flew Robinson's in the early 80s, had no idea they were flying coffins at the time, but now that I think about, they were dropping like flys, I often saw an enstrom at whiteman and always wondered about it, if I would have known how good they were I probably would have kept flying, yours sounds like it runs very good and it's obviously much safer then a robby, even today's model, you made a very, very smart choice, you will be fine

You just flew over Imperial Hwy. You could fly the length of Imperial Hwy from Isadore B. Dockweiler State Beach to the Santa Ana River. Although it may be more interesting to drive.
Would really like to see the Frank Gehry campus for Loyola University completed in the 1980's. Or, if possible, the view along Venice beach where he did some interesting private houses and the Chiat/Day advertising agency.
Useless trivia: At 15:43, you are flying over one of the basketball courts used in "White Man Can't Jump." Its when Woody's character is walking down from the footbridge and the opposing team selects Woody as Wesley's partner on the court.

0:20 off the the right edge is the VELO Sports Center indoor velodrome (track bike racing). Too bad the tore down the old outdoor 1984 Olympic Velodrome though to build the Galaxy stadium.

How about flying over the closed Reagan Library? Courious to see what Air Force 1 & Marine 1 would look like through the tall glass walls. The F-117 & F-14 outside would be cool to see from the air too.
That was great and I especially liked seeing the LA downtown at the end. I'd like to see a flight up the San Fernando Valley, around Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and back. Not sure if that's too far for you?

That mount is for my iPhone. I can use it as a backup in case my iPad fails.

How about heading to Hacienda Heights/City of Industry and fly over the Puente Hills Mall where they filmed Back to the Future. From there, you could fly over the Buddhist Temple and Whittier.
