Man, when I first started working at the nearby university, hardly any cars were on the street I mean it got to the point where I didn’t even have to check any blind spots Just switch lanes.I Can’t say that anymore
The local school district closed a few schools due to them being on a fault line and not all buildings were retrofitted. It happens. Buildings especially way older buildings can weaken over time and earthquakes. Sad to see old schools being torn down but the safety of the children is paramount.

Hudson valley, Catskills and the capital region have really beautiful/interesting old abandoned buildings, lots of old state psych wards and borsht belt hotels. That part of NY, and the post industrial areas of New England have the best abandoned buildings to check out in the country imo. The old psych ward in Poughkeepsie, NY has been getting mostly torn down somewhat recently :/

This is what happens when the city run out of funding for school or there just isn't enough funding to keep the school open, so they opt to shut it down, this is happening everywhere though unfortunately and it's pushing people to find schools outside of their neighborhoods.
