She Had The WORSE Request Ever and then I DESTROYED it! | Cole Lam

- Anyone who knows know that I hate Canon in D! Actually quite a lot of musicians do as well - it's wonderful to listen to, but it's one of the most over played pieces and generally it's quite "boring" to play. However, of course, I love taking requests, so when the ladies asked for Pachelbel's Canon in D, I was happy to play it. But then my dad asked me to "boogify" it. So, with my apologies to Pachelbel and everyone else with ears, I played it in a boogie woogie style.
Afterwards, the ladies gave me the second most feared request - Beethoven's Fur Elise! I only played the initial melody because that is probably what peoplle generally mean by Fur Elise and not middle section. There's a myth, which might be true, that Beethoven wrote it for one of his piano students who he was in love with. Since she was not a very good pianist, he kept it simple; but he found out she was in love with someone else, so he changed it and made it too difficult for her to play!
The only thing missing from this video is someone requesting River Flows In You!

wooow
Love you Cole Lam! 🎉🎉 excellent player!
It is definitely not "boring" to play. When you actually try to play it as a true canon, it becomes very challenging to pull of the entire piece, playing all of the melodies together. I tried to make a transcription, and partly finished it, but playing it is at least as hard as La Campanella, if not more difficult.
Quite boring, also to listen to.
Thanks Cole and family always from the heart and a mood improvement.
Just woke up to a Cole Lam notification! Piano music & coffee is a nice way to start a day. Thanks!
I played that for my nieces wedding - changed it up to be a dance tune for the bridesmaids to saunter down the aisle to. they loved it!
Thanks for playing Canon In D Cole lam. It's my all time favourite peace. You have really made my day 😀
Very clever and just wonderful! 😊 UK.
A guitarist friend of mine in the 80 hated when people requested "Smoke on the water" when he was used to playing Django Reinhardt and the likes.
Mo used to play Fir Elice to us when we were kids
I love it ❤
Thank you!
Some times we all have to do things we dont like Cole, LOL.
You're amazing and make it look sooooo easy 😅 thanks Cole! Sheila in Malaysia ❤
Bravo, Cole!!! It's a beautiful song. I'm amazed that you can play so many songs without the music right in front of you!!!!❤
Your music makes my life better!! Thank you
I have played the song many times when needing to center. And it is so great for improvisation with the strong framework that anyone can recognize.
I first heard Canon when I was maybe twelve. I've only come to love it more over the years because of all the variations in style that musicians have put on it.
Boring for you maybe, Cole. But lovely and respected from us simpletons... 😘
Beyond amazing.
I love Fur Elise. Such a pretty song and I do like the extended version but I can understand that many musicians would hate it. It's the sort of piece that a pianist would play for family and friends from about their second or third year of learning. So by the time you've reached a professional level you'd be totally over it.
Wonderful playing ..🎉🎉🎉 thank you 💙
If it is one of the most requested pieces of music there must be a reason!!!!!! Keep on playing it. You did a great job. And yes i love to hear that song!!!!!!!
lololol and still brilliant, amazing you can play around that broken key
“Put your head on my shoulder” by Paul Anka
Worse requests ever, but Cole just cannot deny his fan girls, LOL.😂😎They loved your Mamma Mia after all.😜
So skilled and talented
You say that Canon in D is boring because it has 8 notes that repeat, but what about current music that has songs with only 2 or at most 3 notes that also repeat?
Agree. A lot of modern songs are basically 4 or 5 chords and then a melody/vocals on top!
I really love that Cannon
So glad you played it! Love Fur Elise, too.
@@ColeLamyucky songs nowadays
Love the boogiefied Canon! Perhaps you should do a jam session with Dr K and his mate.
This lad is MAGIC.
Great as always Cole! 🎹 👍
excellent performance 🙌🏻‼️
But there are so many wonderful renditions of this song. I think I own most of them! I need to add yours to my collection. 🥰
I think I would need to play it better first!
George Winston! Did he compose this? Either way, Godspeed to you young man! Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love when you make fun of it. And love your comments through out the video. Summer holidays coming up next week or so? from Christian in Denmark
Very good live Performance, a nice Video
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, I must confess, and would LOVE to learn how to play it!!!!
MOST enjoyable, as always!!!! When's your next livestream? J
Next Sunday
I love the comments in the video about beethoven. LOVE your playing of the very overplayed Canon in D. There's a reason its so overplayed. Because its really that awesome. :) As for boogie fying it though.... not sure i can wrap my mind around that one. :D Other than that..Cole you look GREAT ! Stay happy ! Enjoy your summer :)
Please play another Abba Gimme Gimme Gimme where there a lots of people passing by. i cant stop listening to the video you played Abba Gimme Gimme Gimme.
Oh, it's Canon in D...and Fur Elise...still beautiful to listen to, yeah!! I like the boogiefied version that you played Cole!
Canons are meant to be simple so that a) you can overlap parts of the tune, as in Frere Jacque or London's Burning and b) you can use them as the basis for ornamentation, elaboration or improvisation. Maybe they appeal to people because they remind us of nursery tunes, songs and rhymes. Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Three Blind Mice.
You make it sound so simple Ray. I never cease to wonder how the cast of Les Miserables ever sing "One Day More", some very complicated overlaps there.
@@bobtoastmaster5442 😄 Overlaps, as with elaborations and ornamentations can be very complicated. One can also overlay two simple canon melodies. I should shut up. I am not a musician.
Just knowing about Fur Elise story
😊 you did great
I liked your boogey style, too! Yiu are a good sport! I will have to listen to all of Fur Elise.
The second half of Fur Elise is the best!
The only time I heard that song was from a vine
Well done Cole tell us when you will next be playing in Camberley Main Square? I will have a request for you.
Hi! I the summer school holidays I should go there a few times
I'd have requested Tico Tico no Fuba
When people don't know the first thing about classical music so always bring up the same pieces every time.
Had it gone on much further she'd probably have asked for The Entertainer!! 😂
Why no one talking about that C key sticking..
Cole / God bless you your subscribers & your Family.
🌞 👋😎👍very hot down here at 🇵🇷 nice Surfing days here. Eyyy my friend like always thanks & a lot of respect 🫡 on what you do.
Thank you for torturing yourself for our benefit. I love the Canon! But I don't have to play it.
And thank you for boogifying it! More variations please. Even if it only vaguely sounds like the Canon.
And then Fur Elise. Do some variations on that too please.
Beautiful piece…..
TY’ST A WONDERMENT😮😮😮
Good look with ur curly hair COLE nice piece not bad!
Have you seen the man called Brendon he seems to like messing around with the pinano
You absolutely definitely, without any doubt, would love to play Midnight Blue by ELO. Honestly, you really would. Please..
I think that little kid had ants in his pants.
He had so much energy to use
Hallo Cole👏👏👏
Stopping off at Phantom en route...
Cole can play any song good one
Hi Cole, if you have time please play short version of Footloose 😊 thanks Lodi!
@fanxo7036Yes you are pretty Natalia 😊
Please play mad piano party
Wunderschön❤❤❤
Mozart would be proud of you! ;-)
Loved the boogified version of Cannon in D
Haha I've heard other musicians say exactly the same thing about these two pieces. What a one two punch these requests were!
It's tragic if their being so commonly requested diminishes your enjoyment of them though because they are beautiful. If I was there I would have requested moonlight sonata. How is that one for you?
That's OK, just about!
Your version sounds better, wish I could play by ear and play it myself...
Im convinced god himself wrote this piece.
Want a rocking boogifies version ? check out the canon rock from Mattrach... 17 years old video on youtube, 22 millions of views !
btw, i just noticed that everyone seems to be wearing winter coats. lol. isn't it SUMMER in the UK? :D Or maybe an old video? Its almost 90 here in NYC ! :D
Yes from about January I think
haha boogie pach was great!
★I'm working late course I'm a singer!★ :P
I wish I'm very more piano
A bit of spice in this is okay 👍!
Dubstep it!
Please someone fix the middle c. It isn’t hard to do.
👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶👍👍
Boogified is fun!!
😮
You played Fur Elise too loudly and rushed at parts. I agree that Canon in D sounds better in its normal not boogified version (even if some think it is boring). I wish you would've played the more interesting parts of Fur Elise. It may be beautiful but its main theme gets boring.
