@@RhettyforHistory I think you can see them at 1:20. They're sitting on top of the bucket. I guess they could be biscuits but at that time, in my area, they would have been the rolls which I remember as having a layer of melted 'butter' in the middle.

Kings Hawaiian rolls are the closest to KFC's dinner rolls. Their biscuits were better when they were made from scratch. Yes when the biscuits first came out, they were made from scratch. I know this because I worked at KFC , and made their biscuits. Now due to sheer volume, they come to the stores frozen.

Harlan Sanders( The Colonel) use to drive around in a big white Cadillac, here in Kentucky, and visit all the Kentucky Fried Chicken Restaurants in the Louisville KY area and show the staff how to fix ' his chicken'. Thing is, Harlan didn't own Kentucky Fried Chicken, he was just a spokesman at this time but Corporate HQ in Louisville wouldn't say anything...they said ' You can't tell the former owner & founder not to do it!' LOL!
Fun fact: There is only two (2) places left to get Chicken fixed the way Harlan fixed it....one is in the Experimental Kitchen at Corporate HQ ( It's tested against other ways of preparation) but regular folks can't get from there. The other place is in Simpsonville, KY ( outside Louisville) at The Claudia Sanders Dinner House, the last restaurant Harlan opened. His Mansion sets in front of Claudia Sanders.

I haven't had Taco Bell since 1994. It's not that I didn't like it but there some ingredient in it that I can't have. I think it's in the sauce and even when I tried to order it without the sauce it would still occasionally happen. It's strange but I don't have that issue with anyone else and it took me a long time to figure out what was causing the issue.

Back in the day when the Colonel was still around, he personally attended the grand opening of each new restaurant. My mom met him in 1960 when she was young at the grand opening in our home town. Pretty cool story. Eventually a second one opened in town when i was young but the Colonel was no longer around. Unfortunately both locations are gone now. I've noticed that in general around my region that many of the KFCs are gone. Not sure if it's because of their hogh prices, which are really high now for fast food, or due to competition like Popeyes and Chick-fil-A, which seem to be popping up all over now. I am yet to have either but want to yo try both at some point. I was always a big KFC fan, it reminds me of childhood my mom would always take me there when my dad was away for a business trip as a treat and I swear I heard the story about meeting the Colonel a hundred times!

You missed the old KFC classic chicken sandwich. It had a chicken patty with the spices and breading of the regular KFC chicken with lettuce and some mayo as I remember. They replaced it with the Big Crunch Sandwich which had breading that was flakier and crispier than the classic but it lacked the herbs and spices of the original. Now they have the imitation Popeye's chicken sandwich with the pickles.

When I worked at KFC in the 70s, they kept the dinner rolls in a "warming drawer." We would slather a roll with butter & honey, then wrap it in a napkin and put it back in the warmer until our break when we could eat it. Yum!

Kentucky Fried Chicken in late 1980's had their version of chicken nuggets...I have to admit, they were excellent! All white meat, tender and juicy with original recipe crust...they stopped selling these around 1990-1991 for some reason. I do miss those, better than anybody else's chicken nuggets!

in the 70s and into the 80s kfc family meals came with coleslaw and a crunchy vegetable salad as well as a loaf of Grecian bread. the chicken was only cooked when you ordered it, no warming ovens back then. this was in new glasgow, nova scotia, canada. good times.

I grew up in Baltimore. We had a fast food place called Gino's, who competed with McDonalds. They were all over the place and they also served KFC. When they when out of business KFC took over a lot of their locations. I miss the potato wedges and real corn on the cobb. Now they got that canned corn that they heat up and those fries that everybody has and mashed potatoes which suck. We very rarely do KFC anymore. Its just not the same.

Way way back in the early 70s when my family started adding this to our occasional Friday night fast food dinners they used to have thick, steak cut crinkle fries that you were supposed to dip in the gravy! Eating this with all of the chicken and you'd feel extra stuffed! Also the biscuits weren't introduced until the early 80s! I remember the singing commercials the Smothers Brothers did for them! But way back they first started offering a roll with honey!

They sold the BBQ wings after 1992. At least i know the locations in New Orleans sold the BBQ and the spicy wings in the early 2000's because it's what i use to buy the most. And i honestly have never tasted a better BBQ wing and Spicy wing than the ones they sold. Removing them from their menu was a very foolish executive decision that i'm very sure they're paying for. It seem to be incompetence or subversive sabotage within. In fact Popeye's started selling them both and their workers say they sell fast.

Back in the 90s they had a sandwich called the BBQ Crunch Melt and it was awesome. From what I remember it was a crispy chicken breast smothered in BBQ sauce and had a slice of provolone cheese, and that's it. I was a regular at the KFC by my work and after they took it off the menu the manager continued to make it for me for months whenever I came in.

This was an interesting episode. I had forgotten about most of these menu items. Growing up in the 70s, I do remember the chicken livers and gizzards on the menu. I don't know if my folks ever got them, but I do know both of my parents liked chicken livers and ordered them in other restaurants that may have offered them, not to mention my mom making them for herself and my dad. I think they also ate the gizzards, but I can't remember. It was a generational thing I guess since you don't see them much anymore. I have to admit that I liked the fried pickles and still get them when I can if they are offered at a restaurant. As for the chicken wings, one would have thought KFC would have picked it up and run with it.
