I have been trying to dock for years now. This is the one thing that always gets me to stop playing because I can't seem to do it. This video is a lot simpler than most other docking videos so I hope I can finally get it to work🤞

THANK YOU! I have started playing Kerbal Space Program a few months ago and fell in love with how amazing this space ship simulator is. Still orbital docking with other ships was always a nightmare to me, It was easier to send a lander to Dune. 🤣
I tried other tutorials before but their methods were usually very complicated and ended up involving lots of tries via quicksave. With your method i was able to dock two space stations on the Mun in less than 20 min. ♥

Great video! I have a space station up that I did not give enough power supply, so now I need to send up an additional module, and I have no idea how to dock. You make it look easy!

@@BlueNebulaRandy I actually JUST got it, and I used your method. Thanks. It almost failed because I had some kind of orbit going on between my ship and the station. Then I realized I needed to adjust the other directions to stop that. Skylab 1 is back in business now!

A couple of parachutes on the first stage would allow recovery of the part later.
5 years of ksp and i never was able to do orbital docking. All it took was a 10 minute video thanks

thanks so much, i was finally able to dock my 100 ton engine (running on xenon and has 47,000 m/s) to my huge space station in RSS and im ready to go to saturn. tbh making orbit with the huge payload was harder than docking after i saw this video

The rendezvous can be performed far more efficiently. Why’d you go into target relative mode so far from the station? If you use an astrodynamic approach to the station and execute your maneuvers precisely you can get there with far fewer maneuvers and less delta-v. it will also allow you to ensure that your relative velocity in close proximity to the station is low well in advance of closing in on it.

Edit: for some reason the SAS is making my rocket lose control and without it it does it too, i don't know what to do

Nice tutorial mate, I understood all the orbital mechanics about it, but I was doing a mistake by forgetting to switch to target speed and the retrograde burn on the start. :D

How do I get that green square around the target? I usually just eyeball it and look at the map.
How do you go forward or backwards with the damn thing i keep getting 40 ft near and then it just moves away like if i disconect the attachment then im stuck with just the little R system

Just for fun, space stations are my favorite 😁

Storage aswell. You can store excess fuel up there, send a rocket and refuel. I also have used them as a gateway for returning kerbals sometimes if I forgot the chutes :)

Hi, the autopilot thing that automatically directs the crafts. is that a mod or default in game?
It comes default with the game, if you add certain hardware to your ship :)
This makes no sense to me at all. i have attempted this 3 times and every time i fail. I do not understand why you retrograde. Every time i do this in relation to the station i fly into the planet or my orbit relative to the target changes drastically and i do not get any closer to my target

You should be able to press square or x depending on console on the command pod on the other craft and select control from here and it should let you control
Hey, so you can only 'switch' to nearby craft that's within 1 km I think, you can do that by using the lb1 or rb1 and left or right keypad to cycle them. Look in the controls option for 'cycle craft'
If it's further away then you have to use the tracking station I'm afraid.

Not much info on Docking!
Immediate flaw. Is when you start talking about setting the nab ball to target you never specify the How. Poor quality right there and the reason why so many of these seem so damn confusing.

I think if you're trying to learn to dock it is fair to assume you know the basics of orbital mechanics. If you want real basic tutorials, I learnt from orb8r or Mike aben
