One of the things I really loved about Kerbal Space Program 2 was its graphics - the water, lighting engine, the engines themselves, or, you know, specifically their exhausts, were just beautiful. But, that’s about where KSP2’s redeeming qualities come to an end. KSP 1 is better in almost every other metric. But, what if there was a way we could enhance Kerbal Space Program 1 to not only match the beauty of KSP 2, but SURPASS IT. Well, in this video, I will be exploring just this. Because, legendary modder BlackRack has released a mod that brings deferred rendering support to Kerbal Space Program, which makes lighting look better AND improves game performance with many light sources!

Stratzenblitz did a video on something similar to this glitch you encountered. When you took off from Duna, something kept the ascent vehicle from switching from the state “LANDED” to “FLYING”, as you can see in the Kerbal Engineer display. That’s also what causes the mysterious shaking. Stratzenblitz abused this glitch to allow for flight under the surface of Duna and Jool.

as an "in lore" reason for introducing mods: you/your viewer community could come up with your own in-game tech advancement tree - following some logical pattern, (but not necessarily constrained 100% by such - where it would make more sense in the installation process to diverge from logic), and have story beats of your own invention in each episode which allow you to "unlock" the next mod or mods in your planned list. That way you can both explore mods, and have those mods make more tangible sense to those learning them, as they'll be tied to the story, and we humans tend to remember things better when we tie them to stories. :)

on the back of my thoughts there, I tried a prompt into gpt3.5 & 4o and it was pretty damn good & inspirational, I won't post the replies I got here, as it'd be a wall of words and would give away spoilers if you picked similar, and you'd likely want your own input/weighting bias to certain mods in the prompt, but my prompt was:
_"describe 5 mods for Kerbal Space Program, together with some fictional "in-game" reason for these mods to be added to an episodic story, whereby the mods would be in effect "unlocked" by some story beat featuring the Kerbals themselves... e.g. USI Habitation Rings unlocked by first performing a separate EVA engineering mission (since an engineer would be needed on EVA to deploy the rings in a following missing and therefore would need prior training)"_

    @Rejinod 7 дней назад +3

Hey Matt! The reason why your orbital line did not show on your Duna ascent is because your craft was in a "landed" state, which means that the game thinks you are on the surface of Duna, so it doesn't have to render the orbital lines. Hope this helped!

In addition to just doing videos that showcase various mods individually, it'd be fun to see you do missions with all the mods you've showcased so far, like just coming up with a fun roleplay reason to do some particular mission, like a plane that flies around Eve, or a giant mobile base on Eeloo, or whatever strikes your fancy really. Even having, like, different series of videos with ongoing stories where you can show off some more complex multi-part missions and stuff. And then as those videos go on, you can mention which mods you're using and be all like "and if you want to learn more about that, I have a video all about this mod here!" and do like a little cross-promotion thing. I dunno, it just seems like a good opportunity to expand on stuff that you've already covered in years past, but with new options and capabilities enabled by modded parts.

We need to restart the KSP excitement. I remember the hype train leaving the station, when several of the major KSP RUclipsrs did the space station collaboration video series
    - would be very cool to see something similar using an actual “celebrity” KSP server with simultaneous play -, maybe that was an initiative you could explore?

i had the same glitch in ksp 2 i did an apollo stayle mun mission. for me the solution was to first stage the 2 stage from the lander stage and then start the engines and take of the mun.(sry if the grammar is wrong im german)

16:36 often when the delta V wont show on a vehicle that had/has many stages, add a few empty staging events below and above your actual stages and miraculously it will calculate the dV correctly.

I saw the thumbnail. I wasn't sure if it was going to showcase insane visual mods or insane visual mods, but the fact that it's not April 1st indicated it would more likely be one than the other. XD
Keeping it fresh forever is a very difficult problem.
Time! It flies! It leaves us feeling old before we're ready! 😂The other week, I realised it's been nearly 5 years since I started playing KSP. Not only does it feel like no time at all, I feel like I'm getting behind because I've never been to Eeloo even though I can easily build a ship to do it. It's because I don't like piloting, so I'll go when I get mechjeb. It's pretty-much next on my list of mods to install.
You landed in a good spot: Scenic dust storms in the distance, but not where you are.
"Situation: Landed" -- Perhaps this is a new way to exploit the landed state to make "floating" Jool bases. Idea! "Floating" Eve base. :)
    Thank you Matt!

I have an idea for a potential stock ksp vid that’s a twist on the typical SSTO Minmus mission. Instead of launching a ssto and doing a direct ascent mission, the ssto would carry a transfer and lander payload that would be deployed from LKO. The craft would then rendezvous with the ssto after the minmus/min landing and dock back into the cargo bay to then be landed back at the KSC.

So.... the orbital lines glitch appeared in KSP1 as soon as a mod came around that switched it to Unity's deferred rendering pipeline.
One of the things KSP2 did to improve over KSP1, was that it switched to Unity's deferred rendering pipeline.
    I don't think there's any mystery here.

When I was younger, a series that I watched a lot of was Spiritwolf, which was a Stock-based interplanetary war series, that made me want to play proper KSP _so_ bad, I believe at that point, I was still on the demo version of the game, or hadn't installed the latest version or something, or was just too young to build anything like I wanted XD But I feel like Younger Lowne on youtube would've liked it :P
I really should get back into KSP, it's been a while since I've played, maybe I will when I've got my new computer!

I had the same missing orbital line bug countless times in KSP1. Other than EVA, a simple touchdown and takeoff will also fix it. It's something I've not seen since v1.4.3 (like 2018), so I wonder if one of the mods here somehow brought it back.
