I was so thrilled when I heard about this last night. So glad justice is coming for Amber and her family. Now I want to know why it occurred. I love that you explain things in exactly a way that I can understand.

Thank you for the update, John! You do the best work! This had been my gut feeling all along. It seemed obvious that the dentist was trying to protect someone close to him, if not himself. The blatant corruption of powerful members of these smaller communities continues to leave me stunned.

So the ENTIRE state has ONE crime lab??? Wtf is going on here really ???

As someone who works as part of a Multidisciplinary Team for criminal investigations, I can say that the statements about lab backups are 100% true to where I live and work, as well. We all, collectively, have GOT to start pressuring our government to fund more labs and more tech staff

Thank you for your thorough and compassionate update to this case. We still don't know the details of how/why Amber was killed, but the new information is worse than I imagined it would be. I was in tears when Amber's aunt was speaking. The bright spot in all of this is the perseverance of her aunt and Amber's other loved ones in getting justice for Amber.

Hurray! Finally! Judging from what was said about his violent outbursts, this can't be the first incident his father has covered up. I wonder how many other people MK III has hurt in the past that have been bought off or otherwise swept under the rug with the Dentist's money, power, and influence? If I were the police, I'd sure be digging. I hope more comes out, and hopefully others will come forward to receive justice as well, now that the ball is rolling. Bless you Amber, for solving your own case! You got him girl!!! 💜Prayers to her family and friends, may they find some solace in the fact that those responsible were caught. So many families never get to that point.

You consistently restore my faith in humanity John but I often think of the toll these types of cases take on you.
It is difficult enough being someone who follows true crime, but to be personally invested like you are I'm not sure I wouldn't go under with stress & dread.
Look after yourself John....& thankyou so much for caring as you do.
Big warm hugs to your brave 💜

I am so happy for the family! I have been following this case since you first brought it to us. The family has my utmost respect for continuing to support the police and speaking highly of them in what would have been an unimaginably frustrating and soul crushing situation.

Thank you John for remembering Amber. From living here I feel it will be hard to find a jury in Floyd County that doesn’t want justice for Amber. But you also have people who were still going to Dr.McKinney to get their teeth cleaned AFTER this all happed and has never doubted him. Eastern Ky is awkward place, but I hope this is a start.

The civil penalties and putting into motion statement im guessing is pointed at the police chief. That son has probably been a local problem for years and daddy has gotten him out of trouble a bunch of times because of his connection to the police chief. That must be a really strong relationship if theres a deceased or soon to be and you choose to call the police chief(whose number you just happen to have) first instead on emergency services.

It seems like people in the bartending and waitress/waiter business tend to be disproportionately victims and perpetrators. I don't know if anyone has compiled statistics. One statistic stands out: 39% of homicide victims were intoxicated well above the DUI limit.

Super happy for Amber's loved once that there's some big movement here!
Personally, I don't think you need to have children to question what's up with all the parents covering up their children's heinous acts. I know for a fact that, were one of my siblings or I to kill someone, my parents would not help us cover that up. They'd help us live with the consequences, yes, with making proper apologies, and doing what we can to repay our debts to society. That's because they raised us well, and part of raising your kids well, is teaching them to work through the consequences of your actions properly.

    • @nrgltwrkr2225
      @nrgltwrkr2225 3 месяца назад +5

Beautifully said! But that's because it sounds like you have wonderful parents. 😊They type of parents that would cover up a murder and try to help their child get away with it, are possibly a large contributing factor as to why the child murdered in the first place.

The fact that the dude owns the businesses in town and is powerful definitely would prevent non relatives from what we'd call "snitching"
Think about it, if these guys were your buddies and this happened at their house and party, would you say anything that would compromise them knowing what they're capable of?
I think that's a really strong element obviously. The chief of police and obstruction due to those factors that prevented the arrest of anyone that morning really would have screwed up things from an evidentiary perspective.
Therefore we're in this mess of a case that could've been wrapped up in a bow.
This is what happens when your from the upper crust of society.
The 'haves' are getting more due process than the 'have nots' and it's really sad but in a small town it's multiplied 10 fold

This is just a crazy case. My guess is that the next step will be the DA charging the other 2 defendants with murder. The family bond won't be so tight when the father realizes he could do life in prison because of his stupid kid, and obviously someone at that house killed this woman. Also, there is no way that the former chief of police won't be subpoenaed, or possibly charged.

This is why personal politics should ont have so much bearing on LE. 911 is a thing that people have a reasonable expectation of coverage for wherever they are. There should not be "discretion" on the part of individual precincts or jurisdictions. Communities simply need to prioritize civilization and safety of it's citizens. If someone in charge feels that this is a social spending we don't need, they are not qualified to be in a position of power. It is not normal to hear about a murder of an innocent person and when it is revealed there was a political angle to the response and that we ARE NOT TO DISCUSS IT. Ridiculous! Whoever made the decision to place the responsibility outside of the community should then take the responsibility when that fails. End of story. We need to stop allowing our world to be run like a McDonalds or big box store. Fix it, or let the feds come and fix it for you. One of the choices is not to let singular politically motivated people decide for us.

Not a grand jury issue. Likely an issue of speedy trial. If you charge a defendant, you can be compelled to bring a speedy trial. If your DNA testing takes a year? A good legal team can force the prosecution to start the trial more quickly than the evidence is ready and you risk losing because of it. A PD doesn't have the resources to run that play, but private defense counsel absolutely does.

Is there any data on how many people have lost their lives or did not even get a standard investigation due to incompetence in the emergency services or LE system? It’s astonishing how prevalent complete incompetence is, and how quickly it is glossed over. Even with dramatically lower stakes, most professions don’t allow this, especially when one can be fired for cause in a union. I make even less than a cop, yet I would be fired instantly for even one F Up of these proportions.
