It got so bad that they had to film with a new camera crew with just them on stage with no crowd? I said the same thing in my post yesterday. In 1973 when Houses of the Holy came out, they were at their absolute peak. And as anyone can see (and hear) here, they were just mind blowing.
      Robert's voice was so strong and clear, Jimmy's playing was quick and confident, Jonesy's bass was incredible and Bonzo's drumming was so intense. By the late '70s they all seemed worn down by the family problems and self destructive lifestyles. Jimmy looks so healthy here; by 1979 the damage was done.

    In 1969 when I was 14, I was at Wallichs Music City in Hollywood at Sunset & Vine on a Saturday at almost midnight. I was with my mom who was an audiophile with slightly more "conventional" tastes. The counterman was playing the first & only LZ album and I was enthralled. I wandered up to the clerk and asked him, "Who's that you got playing?" He says, "A new group from England called Led Zeppelin. This is their debut album. Good aren't they?" I just answered back, "Can I get one?" He gave me the album and I held it out looking at the historical picture on the cover. "Thanks, man!"
    I'm sixty-nine now & I still love their music.

    When Page gets into his solos, he doesn't have time to think of what he's doing, he just lets his fingers do to flying. That's why his guitars don't talk to him, they scream for him.. That's why Page is so beautifully talented... Love you James Patrick page.

    • @frankkolton1780
      @frankkolton1780 Месяц назад +1

      The amazing thing is that Page is able to switch gears so smoothly, he's constantly switching back and forth in every song, usually starting out playing the song's "theme" lick, changing to chords while throwing in many of the fills that are on the original record (guitar parts that are of course tracked in during the making of the record), and then go into a blistering solo and back. A lesser band would need two guitarists and still not sound anywhere as good. Not counting Plant because he almost never plays a musical instrument on stage, you have here a band with three instrument playing musician sounding so good without using any preprogramed canned, backing music tracks on stage or a man "behind the curtain" like many bands do.

    As a fan who fell in love with them around 72 or so, and who thinks the world of them all.....can we finally acknowledge one of the most underrated and sometimes under-appreciated rock musicians, ever? This is taking _nothing_ away from any of the "big 3", but as a lifelong music lover, musician, audio engineer and audio teacher, I *still* find myself discovering new aspects of and appreciation for what JPJ brought to the band. I honestly don't think they would have been the same without him. I'm sure there are other equally under-appreciated players in some famous bands, but TBH I have trouble thinking of any, at least not to the degree that Jones seems to be overlooked.

    • @SuiGenerisMan
      @SuiGenerisMan Год назад +5

      No, they're not underappreciated. Why do people always say that about the most popular bands ever.
      Are the Beatles underappreciated? The grateful dead? Cream?? Stevie Ray Von? No! And it's a stupid comment, no offense.
      Every member of LZ is a GOD to musicians. They made more money than anyone, despite critics hating them.
      John Paul Jones is not overlooked. Maybe it's because you don't play any instruments but Jones was a famous producer for decades after Zeppelin and he still is.
      By all means, love the band but as the British say - oh, shut up!

    • @ScottLoiselle
      @ScottLoiselle Год назад +3

      @@SuiGenerisMan well Mr. Unique, I'll try to be gentler with you than you were with me. Why did you mention those bands? I never said LZ was under appreciated, I said it was JPJ who was under appreciated(and I stand by that). Since you questioned it, I've been a musician since 1972, played in many bands, made my living that way for a while and have now been in the audio industry for over 40 years including making a living as a recording engineer, now teaching audio engineering and sound design at a small university. I've asked many knowledgable folks "who comes to mind when you think of some of the great rock bassists" and very, _very_ few of them come up with JPJ in the first 5 or 6 names, even though they almost all say "oh yes, of course" when I mention him. Obviously, we are each of us the expert on our own opinion and that is fine. What I hope for you is that you can maybe start to respond to people such that even if your opinion is different, you might not need to make it come across as so aggressive or as an attack, I honestly just can't see a reason for that. And now, as you suggested, I'll "shut up".

    On 10/1/23 the 25 year old classical soprano, Patricia Janeckova, lost her battle with breast cancer. In an interview during her fight she said this:
    "My profession predisposes me to listen to so much music that in my spare time my favorite band is silence and peace. And if I have to choose one example for all, it is the rock band Led Zeppelin, which is far from a classic, but for me it is a balm for the soul".
    RIP Patricia. No doubt that you took the Stairway to Heaven.

    I only wish, that they had also performed "Down By The Seaside" live during their day. That and "The Ocean" are two of my most favorite songs they ever did!
    This was such a phenomenal show! I love it.

      Also check out The Mighty Who. Another great band, especially live. Watch Pontiac Silverdome 1975 and Isle Of Wight. From 1967 to 1976, The Who were considered the greatest live band. Check out their Live At Leeds Album from 1970. Nuff said.

    Awesome, I'm 70 and this band still raises the goose pimples, they looked really cool and they matched their appearance with some really solid music. Of course there were many bands since them but they wouldn't be doing it if Led Zep hadn't showed them how it's done.

    Crecí escuchando toda esta musica... Super natural... Recuerdo llegar de clases cuando era adolecente y colocaba esta musica... Tremenda decada...

    Not enough superlatives to describe the Greatest Of All Time! No other Rock Band is even in the same galaxy as Led Zeppelin, let alone on earth! I've been here for 51 years and nothing comes close to the perfection they exhibited in that time. In fact, I really don't think anyone will ever come within a moon shot of their astonishing level of magnificence. Need I say more? If so, all I can say is to go listen and learn!

    You need to listen to When the Levee Breaks. John Bonham was the drummer. He taught his son Jason how to play when he was 2 or 3 years old, and Jason now plays with them. RIP John

    When these 4 super-talents all came together it created the rock band that was the perfect storm. Never to be repeated - they are the staple & set the benchmark. It will never be beaten - it cant be.
