The Mario Team has done a very poor job of separating the two ideas, so I can understand why it would be like that to people who don't go looking into it further. Especially if they played Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time without playing any of the early Yoshi games.
I have a theory about Koopa Kid/Mini Bowser's disappearance. At the end of Mario Party 7's Solo Cruise mode, Bowser and Koopa Kid are sent plummeting to a small desert island. My theory is that Bowser fired Koopa Kid and left him stranded there. I sincerely apologize for this messed-up theory.
Huh... that’s my theory too. I wish there was a game about Koopa Kid’s struggles to get off the island, and he eventually does and leaves, sense Nintendo wouldn’t put something that dark happen to a kid
Bowser Jr. is responsible for all. After learning Peach wasn't his mother, he became very resentful, and embraced the idea of being the only son to his only parent. He blackmailed/bribed the Koopalings into denying their paternity. He engineered a genetic retrovirus that would cause the mystical clone matrix that created the Koopa Kids to destabilize, and they disintegrated. Bowser had considered them quasi-children because they looked like him and shared his DNA. Finally, Bowser Jr., while using a red light toy to confuse Bowser during his times as Meowser by repeatied post-hypnotic suggestions to him that he only ever had one son.
I think before Bowser had his one (and only) son Bowser Jr., Bowser had a fostering program taking in homeless Koopa children like the 7 Koopalings and Baby Bowsers/Koopa Kids to become their foster-father. (that's why they all call him their Dad)
Everyone has that ONE AI player that they hated, and for me, it was Koopa Kid in Mario Party 5 (the one I played most as a kid). It only intensified as I got older and started to appreciate Bowser Jr. more. People constantly get him mixed up with Junior, and I HATE it. It's a huge pet peeve of mine, right up there with people calling Baby Bowser "Bowser Jr" in the Yoshi games.

...No, Koopa Kid has a bigger snout, closer eyes, bigger horns, no legs, more teeth, 5 spiked bracelets, humpback, no ponytail, and has a monstrous voice, while Bowser Jr is just overall more natural looking. Still I like the two anyway
The Koopalings are still Bowser's kids, as far as I'm concerned. Miyamoto wouldn't know good character dynamics if they jumped on his head three times.
I always thought of Koopa Kids as some kind of artificial lifeform, based on their ability to split themselves up into seemingly infinite clones of themselves, as seen in Mario Party 5 and Mario Party Advance. It's presented in an especially 'clinical' way in Mario Party Advance, where the number of Koopa Kids that appear in a minigame is determined by a dice roll, and the main Koopa Kid says "[X] Koopa Kids coming up!" (if I recall correctly) before the game begins, as though conjuring up to 100 identical brothers is just a routine exercise for him. They're some kind of abominable chimerae of science, probably related to the powerful magic practiced by the Koopa clan as described in the manual to the original Super Mario Bros. Further evidence for this theory of mine is the term used to explain the Koopa Kids' relation to Bowser in the original Japanese version of the first Mario Party (the term translated as "Cohort" in English): in Japanese, they are 分身 (bunshin), which can mean child (albeit in a roundabout way - the first definition given in my dictionary is the unusual "parturition", which apparently means the act of childbirth), a branch/offshoot, or an avatar - "one's other self". I'm far from a native speaker of Japanese, but this is exactly the kind of esoteric language I would use to refer to the nature of the Koopa Kids as I understand it: something derived from Bowser, but abstract and unnatural; his progeny, but not his children. They're basically Bowser's homunculi.
You might have seen me say this on Twitter, but I am all for Koopa Kid coming back. I would have been fine if he was just another playable character while Junior could be an antagonist like his dad. ...However, even with my bias for Koopa Kid, he is objectively quite confusing, especially since Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. are actively used in modern games. Plus, he is rather obscure. Good video, Derrick.
No mystery here. Koopa Kids are just Bowser taken from the past. That’s why there are an infinite amount- different timelines. Just like how there are Baby Marios and Baby Luigis. Also it explains how Koopa Kid turns into Bowser in that one game. He’s just hyperaged. And the different color Koopa Kids are just split versions of Koopa Kid. This is also shown when Koopa Kid splits into multiple color versions in that other Mario Party game.
There's always the option of adoption. Bowser jr. Might be his biological kid, but maybe he adopted the rest, hence calling them "son", but they still respectfully saying "Mr. Bowser". Same goes for the Koopalings.
It's unfortunate how the Koopalings were retconned to minions instead of kids. I remember their was a time, when they were his kids and I remember the Mario anime that treated them as such, but with different appearances and different names. But damn, Baby Bowser/Koopa Kid, that's a piece of history forever lost. I'll miss those cute little koopas.
Nintendo erasing characters from history isn't new, they did the same with New Leafs K.K Parade cover art replacing removed villagers such as Rhoda and Nindori with Ava and Pheobe
I would definitely like to see them return, even if it's only for the Mario Party series as I think they have redeeming and charming qualities about them that would warrant their return. As for other things to cover on MIA please do an episode on the Ape Escape series as it's a very charming and fun series that I feel doesn't get enough love.
My theory: Koopa Kids - Clone "mini-mes" made for Bowser as minions; not familial. Koopalings - Same species as Bowser that were adopted by him; non-biological familial Bowser Jr. - Biological son of Bowser.
I’m sorry Bowser, your family is in another castle

(if I recall correctly) before the game begins, as though conjuring up to 100 identical brothers is just a routine exercise for him.
I'd say they're just Bowser's subjects and he's like a father to his people
You might have seen me say this on Twitter, but I am all for Koopa Kid coming back.
Koopa Kid should return in a new Mario Party game as Bowser Jr's underlings
5:35 Popgun Pick-off: "Am I a joke to you?"
Bowser Jr, Baby Bowser, and Koopa Kids are all separate entities, yet people always mistake em all as being one and the same
Maybe they could be the antagonist in Mario Party 12 to take revenge on Bowser for firing them.
Koopa kid for smash, uses various capsules for attacks
@12:45-.-His kingdom, _HiS RULES!!_
Okay. The most question is...
Who is Bowser's "spouse?"
ಠ_ಠ ...What!?
12:41 Peach is just as guilty. I mean, the Toads are kids too aren't they? They're all in diapers for pete's sake.
Some of the Toads have kids, and are able to run actual jobs, so they’re more like adult citizens, but Mario characters have no real age

Hold up
Mario
What the hell is up with that coinage
There's always the option of adoption. Bowser jr. Might be his biological kid, but maybe he adopted the rest, hence calling them "son", but they still respectfully saying "Mr. Bowser". Same goes for the Koopalings.
I wonder what bowser does with peach every time he kidnaps her.
I think the Koopalings are just relatives.
I wish Koopa Kid wasn’t erased from history.😭
It's unfortunate how the Koopalings were retconned to minions instead of kids. I remember their was a time, when they were his kids and I remember the Mario anime that treated them as such, but with different appearances and different names.
But damn, Baby Bowser/Koopa Kid, that's a piece of history forever lost. I'll miss those cute little koopas.
This SERIES was missing in action, dudes! Happy to see it back!
And just in time before the decade it was created in ends!
Nintendo erasing characters from history isn't new, they did the same with New Leafs K.K Parade cover art replacing removed villagers such as Rhoda and Nindori with Ava and Pheobe
My head canon is that Koopa Kid is Bowser’s nephew.
12:46 Uhm... Is this really the only concering thing about Bowser?
I don't think so...
I would definitely like to see them return, even if it's only for the Mario Party series as I think they have redeeming and charming qualities about them that would warrant their return. As for other things to cover on MIA please do an episode on the Ape Escape series as it's a very charming and fun series that I feel doesn't get enough love.
I'm about to end this man's whole career: Bowser Jr. is better
I believe the Koopa Kids are Bowser Jr’s friends
I’m sure I’m not the only one that wants a game with the koopa kids making a return
they grew up.
My theory:
Koopa Kids - Clone "mini-mes" made for Bowser as minions; not familial.
Koopalings - Same species as Bowser that were adopted by him; non-biological familial
Bowser Jr. - Biological son of Bowser.
