Best backhand and return in history of sport.
The swing is so clean, zero unnecessary motion, beautiful backhand!
Unnecessary is the key word in good technique
Beautiful extension through contact!
The left arm goes from slightly bent to straight at contact and the right arm goes from straight (under tension) to bent at contact.
Such a beautiful motion
every frame of dj's backhand is excellent, I admire it
Even though he has a traditional Eastern grip on his dominant hand, like the way he turns the face of the racket down in a way that simulates someone w/ an extreme eastern grip. Nice wrist snap, beautiful technique.
The full arm extension on the left hand can put a lot of strain on the lower back and elbow.. so his level of fitness to be considered
@@purnajitchatterjee9325 very indeed. Not the smoothest backhand ever but it's the most consistent backhand we will ever see!
*Very clear body balance*
Reason why he has the best backhand is not because it is the smoothest, but because it's the most consistent! That racket drop and extention is always the same! Just amazing.
His left elbow goes from bent at pull back to straight at contact, whereas the right elbow goes from straight (under tension at pull back) to slightly bent at contact. I added power to my 2H BH by focusing on extending my left arm at contact and now I get full follow thru with the racket head tapping my back effortlessly without forcing it and I have more topspin.
true, though the left elbow is only very slightly bent once the takeback is underway.
Djokovic's 2 handed backhand is one of the best of tour and it is because he has a flawless closed stance and semi open stance, but he has also shown he is very comfortable hitting open stance backhands and still hit with great pace and accuracy, very few players opt for the slice in more defensive positions unlike novak if drawn wide is confident hitting open stance backhands much similar how most players play an open and closed stance on forehands meaning its just as difficult to break novaks backhand down compared to other players. Because of the semi open and open stance technique that very few players on the atp tour even do with most hitting closed stance or at most a semi open stance, but very few players can rip winners with an open stance backhand
Thanks, this is the best backhand footage
Had to switch to a 2HB for backhand drives due to tennis elbow issues, I see Mr. Djokovic has his off hand up the racquet then slides it down, which makes sense ... I've been standing in the ready position with both hands in a 2HB grip, and bringing it up if I decide to hit a backhand slice. I wonder if Novak pulls with his right hand more than he pushes with his left ... or is the other way around ... or maybe fairly equal action with each hand??? Awesome looking stroke ... the guy is amazing.
I would say he pushes with his left arm more than the other way around. The power of the shot seems to be in the lift he does by releasing his wrist just before touching the ball, but pushing with his left arm helps him being accurate. As a tennis armateur with a 2HB that is what I feel anyway 😅
What some beautiful strokes
Everyone's tennis coach tells them to watch his backhand but what percent actually does it?
Arguably the best backhand ever!
Almost inarguably, with it he creamed top competition left and right.

His grips are: right hand eastern and left hand eastern. Without having have to change grips, he’s able to act faster when he has to hit a back hand.
nice
What looks like a hitch at the bottom of the swing is ulnar deviation to accelerate racket head drop, adding speed, topspin, and power to the shot.
One thing I noticed is how much he will bend his knees to get down to the ball. At 1:29 he almost puts his back knee on the ground he is so low.
What causes the "hitch" at his racket drop and bottom of the NIKE swoop?
tackle, right arm straight, racket above wrist, left arm bent, pull
That fast movement with the head of the raquet down is so difficult for me...the backhand is always difficult in my game even i try to improve it.
That racket drop isn’t something you should be trying to do, it should come with enough leverage, being relaxed and the other fundamentals in place… yourll give yourself an injury trying to force the action
Novak 👌👌👌👍👍👍💗💗💗
Can Djokovic beat Roger Federer's record of most Grand Slams and will he become the Greatest Of All Time overcoming both Nadal and Federer?
Love Tennis I think he will
Yes I think so, as long as he keeps healthy.
You think Rafa can stop him?
What about Rafa?
Nope
Early preparation!!
Who can explain why just after he hits forehand his racquet rotates in direction of ball rotation but in case of backhand we can see the opposite. Doesn't it make sense?
What is his backhand grip?
Practice is best he will win another 🏆
How he do to have a head of racquet late to have power
Best double handed bh of all time
He is my favourite male player
You are smart man
Damn u
1:32
Ha yeh I flagged that as well. He gets so low to the ball he's practically kneeling.
Aula de bachand
Lost nole 1
ONE HANDER the BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2 Hander for Boys
One hander will destroy your elbow by age 25 like it does to most players, it's just nobody talks about that much
@@PretentiousStuff WORKS for FEDERER , EDBERG , BECKER , SHAPAVALOV
95% of pros are two handers. Better luck next time.
how the fuck does he do that backhand lol
Combination of talent and hard work!
horible tecnique just muscle the ball.
Come on, I don't like Novak much but this is a beautiful and effective backhand. Arguably best backhand of all time
@@JimmyLeSpurs more best reliable backhand. For me wawrinka has the best it.
I tried this but kept hitting the frame 🤣🤣🤣
He is definitely hitting flat.
So ugly to watch. Should be prohibited backhand with two hands.
Idiot
@@iestyn77 ad hominen
@@fabiogurgel1 you should look up the meaning of irony and then go back to your original comment moron.
They don't get paid for esthetics, only victories. 95% two hands at pro level for a reason.
Go on then, post a video of your "beautiful" one hander.
Those two handed backhands are so ugly to watch.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but Novak's backhand is certainly helping him win, so it is clearly a great shot
Roger, is that you?
They're EXTREMELY effective, especially with high balls. I alternate between the two when I play. High balls (shoulder height) = 2 hander. I think Agassi's backhand is actually better than Novak's but they're pretty close.
@Vladimir Lasmarias I personally like one handers better but both have advantages and disadvantages
@@viksinha5410 I agree. I use my one hander 75% of the time. I can hit a faster and flatter ball with it when I have time to set up but struggle with control with upper body/shoulder height balls. That's when I switch over to a 2H. The one hander looks nicer IMO.
