Last year your dad knew nothing bout hip hop. Now he’s out here with “yo that sample was on Illmatic too”. Amazing.
And I love it so much lol my daddy isn't in to hip hop this much. Lol I'm living vicariously through him
❤❤❤❤
it ain't hard to tell, maybe
microphone mathematics was also sampling De La Soul in The Bizness
Didn’t expect this one. One of my favorite albums of all time.
Could have it continuously on repeat and I wouldn't get over it
fr
Same. This is my favorite album ever
Pure art
I like
it's cool seeing people react to this. been listening to unseen for years and felt alone as a fan lol
Glad you found us! Thanks for watching. - Kai’s dad
Yeah, same for me. I still fall asleep to it.
The "tap dancing" sounds in "Come on Feet" are actually part of the music sampled directly out of a sci-fi cartoon movie called "La Planete Sauvage", where giant aliens are dropping something like marbles.

Seeing your dad genuinely getting into the Genre is great
I had to crack a cold one with y'all too man, bless up. I thought my guy was a teenager, he's a whole grown ass man! My cousin packed me a bowl one night, threw this album on and said "check this out, you're gonna trip". One of my favorite albums to this day, salute to Papa G and my B boy with the Stella. Salute
Me too!!!!! 🤣 thought he was younger I meant 🤘 I don't drink but made me want to go and get one 😂
Apparently madlib had made this album some years prior and it just got lost in the shuffle of all his other music he was making. He stumbled upon it again after digging through tapes of his and decided to release it. Crazy how it almost never came out to begin with, makes you wonder how much amazing music he has that'll likely never see the light of day
Peanut Butter Wolf convinced him to release it. If he didnt do that The Unseen wouldve never came out
@@ohianaw long live peanut butter wolf and Charizma
The Unseen album reminds me of a little Dad and Mom owned restaurant that has the best food in town but nobody knows about it except the ones that appreciate good food. This album dropped in 2000 and has aged like a fine wine and it seems to sound even better as I get older.
I still eat there all the time
im listening to my first quasimoto album with u guys, thanks for expanding my music catalog
Awesome! Thanks for listening with us. One of my favourite things about the channel is showing people new music 🤞🏼
Its underground for sure.
This is literally my favourite album of all time! what a nice surprise
One of my favorite hip hop albums so glad you showed your pops this jiont! Love from cali
Wow, didn't expect this. Discovered this album when I was 19 (I'm 39 now) & big into Madlib & 'herbs'. Great combination! Cheers on the Stella's. Greetings from Belgium 😊
The Unseen instrumental is one of the best beats of all time. The first portion
the "understanding microphone mathmatics" is from De La Soul "The Bizness" (or is it "Stakes is High"?) from the "Stakes is High" LP - well worth reviewing. Also, the "skit" was really introdcued in full by De La Soul's "3 Feet High and Rising", another one well worth a review!
Yo pops a genuine soul I like how he’s open to listening new music that man got a good memory too
Madlib 🐐
Madlib said in an interview that lord quas' vocals aren't pitched up, it's actually just him rapping very slow and then speeding the recording of his voice up.
I can't believe you did this album. This is the definition of an underground classic! PROPS to you guys!!!
I really love how receptive your dad is to you walking him through this great hip hop classic
Cracked one Stella too! Cheers to you, guys! This educate us all. Grew with rap music since the 90's and still discovering and learning so much about it. This channel is a gold mine for me!
Microphone mathematics is a sample from De La Soul featuring Common’s “Da Business” on the album “Stakes Is High”
Wow, I love that you guys did this album. An ABSOLUTE classic!!
Did not expect this!!!! This is it!! It’s my 2nd video I watch of this dude!!! I’m a big fan now!!! Lord Quas!!!
In regards to west coast boom bap theres more than a few groups that utilize it such as The Pharcyde from LA and Hieroglyphics aka souls of mischief from Oakland CA. I am loving the videos guys. One artist worth a listen to is DELTRON 3030. He is one of the only artists I know of that performs with a LIVE ORCHESTRA everytime he performs in person. He was also a member of Hieroglyphics previously.
Last album I expected but such a classic
i heard the uneen in 2015. it changed my life forever
You guys hit the feels w this one! One of my all time faves and a must when I do cardio! “cmon feet” hits different a couple miles into a run 🤣
haha! I love this comment so much
The ONLY progression from this HAS to be MF DOOM! Please react to MF DOOM 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Good on you showing him Quasimodo bruh. He is so dope. Wish we got another record
This album was my intro into the hip hop world. I still listen to this album cruising downtown at night. Such a vibe.
This video is so cool to me bro... first cuz "The Unseen" is one of the first albuns that made me go deep into hip hop fr and search the so called "underground" of this genre. It changed a lot my hole vision of music tbh. And the second thing is that i'm brazillian, and ur in a brazil's scoccer team shirt for some reason
eu tbm gostei pra crl da referencia
Esse é o puro suco do under. Madlib sabe o que faz!
This is my favorite album of all time. Ever since I discovered it, it has forever changed my view on music forever. Everything from Quasimotos hilarious pitched cartoon voice, the surreal and druggy production, Madlib and Quasimoto exchanging verses together, the absurd of amount of samples ranging from cryptic, hilarious and straight up bangers and so much more. So glad you gave this album a chance because its something truly special. Also you explaining Quasimoto to your dad made me laugh so much I dont know why. Good stuff man you earned a sub. Madlib was also on shrooms when he made this
The more I listen to the Unseen, the more I am intrigued by it. Madlib is not after mass appeal with this one as far as I can tell. Music for the simple sake of music and making a connection to those who will listen. Thanks for the sub! - Kai’s dad
@@frontroom Thanks man. I was just smiling the entire time when I saw this video. This such an underrated album and I love seeing people listen to it
This is a golden Channel. Dude Don’t stop please
Request noted! - Kai’s dad
Beautiful Jersey! BRASILLLL 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Does that mean MF DOOM is coming soon???? Madvillainy????
One of my all time favorite albums along with the Lootpack album.
Digable Planets - Cool like that 🙏🙏🙏
Fantastic reaction as always! I think Dad has opened the door to react to some De La! 5:42 sample is from "The Bizness" by De La Soul feat Common
How did he not geek over the unseen beat, the first portion before the beat switch, that portion is unreal. Best beat on the album in my humble opinion, in fact one of the best beats in hiphop ever made.
fuck yes great album
agreed, one of my all time favs for doing chilling or cleaning my room to
edit: and especially late night drives!
@@frontroom "- and especially late night drives!"
That's exactly how I feel about Madvillainy!!!
Great sit down fellas! Pop is becoming Hip-hop. (Bars)😁 To hear greatness like this helps to understand hip-hop. Mixing and samples are what is a foundation of the sound. If you listen, the samples (voices) are the lyrics too.
Oh man, I'd LOVE to see y'all explore some jazz! I'd have sooo many suggestions for you guys! Btw, this album is fantastic, I'm so happy you did this one!
The music industry still isn't ready for MADLIB
I agree. He is too rebellious and goes against what record labels want to put out to the masses. I have yet to talk to anybody in my circle that listen to music who knows about him but once they listen to his music they get addicted.
LORD QUAS
FUCK! Totally came here to say this!
y'all gotta do "The Further Adventures of Lord Quas" next. If your pops thought this one was a crazy ride, the 2nd album is even trippier
Whaaaat!!! Lord quas reactions!
BROOOOOOOOOOOO I CLICKED THE CHANNEL TO SEE WHATS UP AND THIS!!! THIS IS THE NEWEST VIDEO. Was not expecting Lord Quas to be on your list
bro, thats a classic, nice video! also, shout out from Brazil! nice T-Shirt
this is one of the albums that are extremely niche, even for people who like underground hip hop. madlib in general is an artist who loves the craft of bending things to abstraction, like experimental jazz. especially the second quasimoto album has unorthodox beats, but i used to play that album a lot on 'cruises'
Made my day.
Damn Kai, I could tell you knew hip hop but had no clue you got down with Quas/Madlib. Very unexpected and I love it, I hadn’t heard this album in ages!
I like how you don't just do "mainstream" classics. This album is great.
Perhaps some Cunninlynguists in the future?
Lootpack - "Soundpieces: Da Antidote" (MadLib's 1999 group release)
Its also good to note that this album liberally samples tracks by 70's pro-black spoken word artist Melvin Van Peebles.
Related to Ann Peebles, the singer, by any chance?
@@frontroom not that i know of
Kai, I STRONGLY advise you to listen to DJ Troubl's mixtape A Journey Into Fresh Digging, it's an amazing mix where Troubl mixes Quas's songs with the original samples to create a seamless and beautiful experience that further emphasizes and celebrates the original samples. I was obsessed with it for a while.
Dad, I think the best way to look at this album is a collaboration between Madlib as the procuder and Quas as the rapper, with Madlib occasionally rapping. As you could tell it's a rap album from the producer's perspective so many of the songs are about celebrating old music, homages, and talking about the craft of crate digging and sampling and making music.
This album literally changed my life, took me from being a teenager who's lost in the world to an adult who wants to do nothing but make art and be proud of his creative quirks. Today I live in Los Angeles, met Madlib and his brother several times and work with Stones Throw (the label that's responsible for putting out all of Madlib's early stuff).
Btw, Madlib NEVER wanted to put out the Quasimoto stuff but after Peanut Butter Wolf, the guy who runs Stones Throw Records, heard it, he insisted on putting it out and thus came out one of the most bizarre, inspirational and unique voices in Hip Hop history.
Thanks for the reco! It's dope you work with/for Stones Throw..Especially my mid -to-late 2010's was full of their music (MNDSGN, Gabriel Garzon Montano being the top 2 artists..., Washed Out, Knxwledge, Anderson .Paak before Aftermath stuff)
@@enthuc Yes they're amazing ! I was a the biggest fan of Stones Throw in the mid to late 2000's, when I was a teenager. So literally every single Madlib release, Lootpack, Oh No, Dudley Perkins, MED, My Vinyl Weighs a Ton, Charizma was what changed my life. Along with DOOM and Dilla. But yes Strong Arm Steady, Jonwayne, MNDSGN, Dam Funk, Anika and everything else that came in the early 2010's was incredible as well.
@@enthuc I was a kid in the middle east thinking that Oxnard was the sickest place in the world because of all the ST artists coming from there. THE OX!
Then I moved to LA and realized, it's just another boring small city haha
And yes, DJ Troubl's mixtape is a fuckin beautiful experience, I hope we can make Kai notice this and make him listen to it I'm sure he'll go crazy for it
Amazing video and t-shirt bro
Trying to explain what Astroblack is about to your Dad was funny af
...And the southern hip-hop album should be Outkast "Southernplayalisticadillacfunkymusik" But do another Outkast song for you and Pops 2 hear André 3000 n Big Boi get busy. Perhaps Aquimini or Rosa Parks. Peace
One of my favorite albums ever
Love how the album cover makes it look like y'all holding hands
OH MY GOD THE BEST ABSTRACT HIP HOP ALBUM EVER IS FINALLY BEING VIEWED
Hope you enjoy the reaction! We have a follow-up discussion on it as well in another video. - Kai’s dad.
facts. it is the best abstract hip hop album
WOW! Didn't expect a reaction to this.
After this it makes we wonder if you dive into the underground and react to people like Dan the Automator, DJ Shadow, RJD2, Prince Paul, Pete Rock, and others. Or Blackalicious, Latyrx, Aesop Rock, Soul Position, Blueprint, Murs, The Pharcyde, Jedi Mind Tricks, Hieroglyphics, Black Moon, Lifesavas, and others.
Some absolute crackers in your list of suggestions. So many good ones!
I listened to this album so much when I was a student. Madlib is the best!
Beautiful shirt!! Brazil 💚
i wasn’t expecting this omg. all hail lord quas
Greta van fleek - black smoke rising
Clever - used again
Dance Gavin Dance - criminal
I'd love to see ur dads reaction to anyone of these great songs
The vocal sample in microphone mathematics is from De La Soul's "The Bizness"
Nice bit of trivia, thanks! The more I listen to this album the more I like it. - Kai’s dad
This is my all time favorite album I was shittin bricks when I seen he reacted to it 😮
One of the greatest albums ever made!
Very key point made at 11:40 When I first heard of Madlib; for a long while, I assumed he was from New York and not 60 miles from Los Angeles.
Fun fact, Madlib dropped the pitch to 1/2 speed on his tracks, spit the Quas verses then brought the pitch back up so that the beat would sound normal and the Quas voice would be sped up
Yes I actually mentioned that in the video somewhere! He did that because he didn’t like how his voice sounded deep similar to Barry Whites (he actually said that!)
Organized Konfusion - "Invetro"......You and your dad will not be disappointed!
=) Microphone Mathematics beat it's from De La Soul's, The Bizness (Stake is High is a great album to do a react btw)
My ish. Classic album
please do j dilla ruff draft and donuts please and dmx the convo pleeeeease
one my fav hip hop records along with The Infamous, Madvillainy and Black Sttar
The fact that you know about this album in general, you are cool with me!!
Thanks, Anthony, hope you liked the reaction. We also did a "backyard discussion" on The Unseen if you feel like checking it out. - Kai's dad
shoutout from brazil bro, cool jersey.
This album is so different odd and cool
I could've sworn that you had your dad listen to madvillainy, and that that's where he had heard of madlib. I can't find the video so I'm confused but I would definitely enjoy seeing your dad's reaction to that album !!
Dr. Octagonecologyst next!
Oh shit!
Im always hyped af when people review this album hahaha
I love your t-shirt 💚💛
Brilliant content guys.
Building a special thing here.
Skins in the UK are rolling papers for joints.
You have to show him the 2001 Album from Dr. DRE a Classic and in my opinion the greatest Album off all time
2001 isn’t even Dre’s best album. The original “The Chronic” is far superior.
omg ur dad's smile when Low Class Conspiracy came on
If you have the time, listen to the album kind of blue, by miles Davis, to bridge your way into jazz. One of my favorite albums of all time. Love your videos
Down the jazz rabbit hole! Think my mind would explode, Owen. But hey, always open to new explorations. Thanks for watching. - Kai’s dad
Coltrane!!!
Wow, a total left turn but I'm not complaining! Madlib da badkid all day!
This is so dope. You gotta do Madlib Blue Note album.
You and your dad definitely need to check out ATMOSPHERE-YESTERDAY
“Ladies, and gentlemen welcome to violence”
Cool Brasi football shirt! I would like to show the reactions the otherway arround. Let your dad show you some of the classics from his day.
Loving the Front room reactions and perspectives, not to mention the father son love.
Just a few recommendations for channel or personal time.
1, Eugene Mcdaniels Headless heroes of the Apocolypse and anything by David Axelrod. An album and an artist madlib has been heavily influenced by.
You may already be up on these guys but if not, enjoy. Keep doing your thing.
Blessings
Would be cool if you mentioned that Madlib makes Quasimoto albums while he's high on mushrooms! That's what makes Come On Feet such an iconic song. Just imagining Madlib sitting making that song and can't move his legs, haha! Also, and this might just be me, but i hate that you cut parts. I was vibing and singing along for most the album, just to be disappointed by the cuts. Again, might just be me! Really cool video, will check out more from you guys!
You guys should do some Masta Ace. Disposable Arts maybe?
The Long Hot Summer album was ill to.
@@shottashabazz6721 For real
Nice!
Your dad was surprised to hear skits on pre College Dropout rap music. First thing that came to mind was the skit heavy and exceptional "Eazy-Duz-It" by Eazy-E. Released just 3 months after the ground breaking Straight Outta Compton, it's easily in my top 10 rap albums of all time. I can easily recite every song with 99% accuracy and I haven't heard it in decades. You both will love it. Big fan of your channel, keep up the good work!
Thanks, Scott. Sounds like a track I need to hear. - Kai’s dad
@@frontroom the whole album is beyond reproach imo. Also, since you loved Geto Boys "Mind Playing Tricks On Me", check out their 1993 album "Till Death Do Us Part". I bought the cassette tape three times due to the first two literally breaking from listening to them so much!
Classic fuckin album!!! Lord quas!!!
The Unseen (Lord Quas), Duality (Capt Murphy) and Madvillainy (DOOM and Madlib). The three albums that shaped my taste in hip-hop.
I'm a fan of quasimoto, and I'm from Brazil (I liked the shirt) 👍👍
