  • Why does Mark Rober go viral every time he uploads? How is he beating the youtube algorithm? Let's find out!
    What does squirrels, Mark Rober and Mr Beast have to do with growing on youtube? In this video we will get to the bottom of Mark Rober's rise.
    Install Tube Buddy (Free but need Legend membership for A/B): www.tubebuddy.com/paddygalloway

    Video Notes
    I think anyone who has seen a Mark Rober video before, will agree that he is a credit to the RUclips community. He makes videos that are both educational and entertaining, and averages a ridiculous 27 million views per video.
    But let’s be real for a minute, top youtubers understand how the algorithm works. They know what sort of content to make and what tactics to use to bring in millions of views. Do you think a guy who helped put a robot on mars makes ‘’wholesome content’’ and just hopes it does well?
    Has anyone ever noticed that when you click on a mark Rober video, 10 minutes goes by in the blink of an eye? You might just think it’s because he makes awesome videos, which is true, but he also uses techniques which makes it so hard for you to click off.
    So that’s how Mark makes people stay on his videos to give him great watch time and retention, but he of course needs people to actually click on them in the first place. Which brings us on to step 2 - Mark uses Killer Metadata
    Mark uploads just once per month, or even less at the moment, although I’ve heard he’s got a pretty cool video with Dude Perfect coming soon. So watch out for that. You see RUclips is no longer a place that rewards sheer quantity, right now to stand out, you need to provide 10 times the quality you did 5 years ago.
    My name is Paddy Galloway and I hope you enjoyed this video!

    Step 2: name him “RUclips Algorithm”
    Step 3:

  • @froknowsphoto
    @froknowsphoto 3 года назад +507

    We need RUclips to allow us to A/B test thumbnails and titles. I said this to them a year ago and it looks like Facebook is implementing something similar. RUclips should have the ability to allow us to upload two thumbnails per video and two titles. When it goes live, it shoots out both a and b to your following and within minutes it should know which one is getting a higher CTR!!!!

    • @paddygalloway8780
      @paddygalloway8780  3 года назад +76

      You're so right. It would be such a useful feature but I think they know that, they just choose not to implement. Who knows why, but I have my theories...

    • @J0daa
      @J0daa 3 года назад +12

      @Paddy Galloway I'm guessing there is a correlation between high quality videos and channels who use A/B testing, so having that skill gap allows for the viewer to be guided towards channels that they are more likely to subscribe to and continue receiving/watching high quality content, keeping them on RUclips for longer. I use TubeBuddy too and it's been SOOOOO useful over the past few months (gained 50k views from nothing in 7 videos); it really shows how much information RUclips *intentionally hides* from its creators.

    • @westly7rock
      @westly7rock 3 года назад +3

      Actually they do... There's too many variables to make this a simple to use feature. So they left an API (application programing interface) that lets you query metrics about your video and change it's metadata (like the thumbnail and title). This is exactly what Tube buddy does.

      Grian is a great example of a large gaming channel that is the same way. He NEVER asks for people to like and subscribe. One day at the very end of his video, however, he said in the nicest way possible, that a large majority of his viewer base was not subscribed and they should consider subscribing. And guess what? The very next video he thanked his viewers for a bunch of new subscribers and he was shocked at how many people did. Just goes to show that RUclipsrs don't need to constantly shove "LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE NOW" down our throats to get people to subscribe. A gentle reminder every once and a while is all that is needed and makes for much better content overall.

    There is a whole different market for daily uploads that is very successful in itself.

    You’ve earned a subscription from me, mate. I’m a bit in awe of the fact that you just made a video that takes advantage of all of the qualities that you are explaining that Rober uses to gain views and go viral and thus this very video now has 1 mill views in 2 months. here's what you did wrong. Clickbait - in the sense that you don't deliver - will drive people to specifically be spiteful. When I see a bait-ey thumbnail/title I check the uploader to see if it's someone I feel doesn't deliver, or if they're someone I know actually delivers. I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

    One very important thing you forget - Mark's channel gives the old-school early Mythbusters vibe and since pretty much all of us millennials grew up with that show, each and every one of his videos is like a nice stroll down memory lane. Also it makes it catchy enough to appeal to much wider audience with viewers who aren't all the deep into science. Because Derek from Veritasium also does incredible videos, but his a bit too detailed for the average viewer so not as many people stick to them as with Mark. Also can't deny you nailed it with the "homemade" part in the video. RUclips really started as a platform to watch homemade funny stuff and fails, there was almost no production value to the videos whatsoever and watching it becoming like a polished TV network is sad.
