I've worked in Dolfinarium and I can say that the seals were housed together a long time ago. It went perfectly fine I heard but they had to be separated because they had to house more rescues. They didn't want to risk Cohousing species with such an big group. It is freshwater that gets filtered through the sand in the enclosure. Seals that are housed in freshwater to need eye drops and that is completely normal in zoo's. You can tell that mostly the biggest and most popular zoo's house their pinnepeds in saltwater. Fun fact: they used to house conger eals with the dolphins in the Laguna but the conger eals got too big so the removed them before they would snack on a baby dolphin.
Since the ringed seal at Ecomare is a mix of two different subspecies (P. h. hispida x P. h. botnica), it is listed under ‘no subspecies status’ at Zootierliste, which apparently calls those Baltic seals instead of ringed seals 🤔. The one that died two years ago was the father of this animal, he was the P. h. hispida (Arctic ringed seal).
man, kinda sad that they still havent done anything with that concrete pit style habitat in Münster. ten years ago i was already thinking its pretty ugly and outdated. i wonder if they have any kind of plan for it
My Best Habitats for Grey Seals & Seal Rescues is from Zoo Hannover, Alwetterzoo Münster, Sealife Blankenberge, A Seal Stellendam, Ecomare Texel and Zeehondencentrum Pieterburen.🌊🦭 🥰❤ I like for Pinnipeds🦭 (Seals and Sea Lions), to get so Huge Enclosure with Sandy Beaches or Rocky Coves for living lands and so verry water like ocean for swimming, of course as Underwater Viewing for ZOO-Guests to see them swimming underwater. 🌊🦭🤩😉👍✨

Yeaa I realized this a couple days ago woops. I even edited that page on ZTL after my visit so reverted my changes when I realized my mistake 😅
