Thank you for your review. I have been considering these, and you really gave me a better sense of what these must sound like. Excellent video, one of the best I've seen.
At 5k, it would be interesting to compare them to my reference, the ATC SCM 19 V2, which cost a bit less. No doubt, a high quality sub (or two!) is essential for those who want full range sound.
Great to hear that you are back! Regarding the midrange on your existing system that is not as good as this speaker. One problem that I have learned with plate amplifier back on powered subwoofers is that the knob for frequency cutoff sometimes is a real bad implementation. When I put the cutoff at 80 Hz and disabled the 2 main channels so that it were only the subwoofer that were playing. Then i could clearly hear the electric guitar that is way higher than 80 Hz (!) from the sub in the background. That tells me that the cutoff is very shallow and at a most 6 dB/Oct. In practice the subwoofer will then play midband notes also and giving you a less clearly sounding midrange and without realizing when we think that the subwoofer do not play anything above in this example 80 Hz. Check out if that is the case and it is free. If that is the case it will clear up some of the midrange. Another thing is that lower frequencies 20-30 Hz is not uncommon that they bounce around in your room for at least 1000 ms (!) after it has left the subwoofer. If there is not any THICK sound absorbers there to bring the times down. That will also contribute to less clarity in the midrange when lower octaves is still making noise long after they have been played. Bass is a whole new can of worms/problems and that is why some skip that part all together like the LS3 that also is famous for its midrange clarity when that type of speaker do not try to make bass at all and avoiding the issues all together. 🎁🎵🎶 (For the shallow 6 dB/Oct subwoofer issue I use today a miniDSP2x4 HD that let me implement/use 48 db/octave.)
Thanks so much Optimize! Great information, and I appreciate you sharing that with my viewers! Alta Audio speakers have essentially resulted in me not using sub woofers of any kind, but I could see the potential for proper tuning on sub bass there. I haven't really shared this yet but I'll be moving a couple times over the next 7 months or so. I bought a new build and am doing a custom studio with sound treatment and the works! Really looking forward to diving into audio a lot more in 2022!
@@GadgetryTech sounds great! Good luck with your studio. Maybe make some videos on the treatment work and maybe you can get good tips and ideas from the RUclips community. 👍
❤🎉I would like to thank you very much for this wonderful review to me. Imaging and stage are the most important to me. I want to be transported to another place in time and I think those two parameters do that hearing deep into the recording. I also love detail. I think these are the ones for me. Keep up the great work!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I almost brought the Borrensen speakers but i heard these are more musical and not fatiguing, they look a little strange but its about the music.....Great review i just subbed...
Hi these speakers are not available in my country if I went to the trouble to import a pair these would cost with $ exchange and freight in excess of $8300.US As you can see the cost becomes prohibited.. unfortunately this is why likes of Kef B& W Dynaudio Focal have such a strangle hold because of there shier manufacturing size to flood the market It is unfortunate because so many smaller companies produce World wide leading products but don't have ability and advertising power of the masses to sell at a respectable competitive price to complete Great review...
thank you very much for your review ..... I have only one question if I had only one choice to leave myself alta alec or alta alyssa?... if possible, could you perform a sound test for alec and alyssa it will be very informative and interesting ...thank you so much!
Their sound signature is shockingly similar, and I enjoy both immensely. Honestly it's going to come down to your room more than anything else. The Alec is such a power house that it will over power smaller rooms. If you're a bass head and don't share common walls with anyone, the Alec has more oomph to it. In the right room though, the Alyssa would sound better to me. I've tried a couple times now to capture sound tests of speakers but it never comes close to conveying the sound quality they put out. I've considered trying a binaural recording next, but I'd imagine it will need some heavy EQ and calibrating on the post production side to get it anywhere close. Even then, your own headphones and listening equipment will modify it further. I think the highest value would be to use the same recording equipment with the same calibration, play the Alyssa speaker, then switch to a different bookshelf/speaker right away. Having back and forth comparisons of different models may be cool. Anyway, thanks so much for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed the review!
Hi Joe, you did a very nice great and informative video!!! 1. I am looking to buy Alta Audio Alyssa Speakers so I would greatly appreciate your input. What is most expensive speakers that the Alyssa Speakers can equal in sound? 2. Will the Audio Alyssa Speakers give me a long, huge holographic wide sound stage, 3. Do they also have a nice ceiling to floor sound and can play all types of music really well? 4. Will the Alta Alyssa Speakers sound great even in a UNTREATED room? 5. Do you think that the Alyssa Speakers can equal or beat the sound of the Børresen X2 or X3 Speakers?
I was just at AXPONA and had a chance to hear Alta Audio Alyssa Alec and Adam, as well as the Borreson X1/X2/X3. Going in, I thought I would love the Borreson (based on all the media hype), but I thought the Borreson were too detailed for my taste. Yes, they were very fast detailed, and open sounding. But I felt they were too clinical for my tastes - like they had no soul. On the other hand, I LOVED the Alta Audio sound. They too are detailed and open sounding ... but they had a warmth and musicality that gave them a soul. Like listening to music vs listening to (or for) details. Although I can see how many love the Borreson sound, it's not for me.

Fantastic review, I ordered them today and also talked to Mike about them, interesting I will also use the Stellar Strata integrated!
I'd love to hear what you think of them. Hopefully you received both already and are enjoying them!
Nice review; it really piqued my interest. Thanks.
