I found the DVD in our local music shop and grabbed it! For Julian Issa, the tenor was Yuri Marusin, and the other major characters were as follows: Onegin: Sergei Leiferkus Tatiana: Tatiana Novikova Olga: Larissa Diadkova Gremin: Nikolai Okhotnikov Madam Larina: Evgenia Gorokovskaya Nurse: Ludmila Filatova Triquet: Gegam Grigorian Music Master: Alexander Morosov (I think - not listed in the DVD, but looks like him) Fast forward 30 years to 2014 at New York Met, and you can see Diadkova as the nurse with Anna Netrebko as Tatiana: Larissa was my favourite singer from those early recordings, and still is! Strangely, the DVD, the jewel case and the booklet all omitted any mention of the conductor Temirkanov's name. For Aloo Swaleh Mosafeer: there are 365 stanzas of the Pushkin poem. One approach is to read a stanza a day - but not in a leap year!
Wonderful! The "mise en scene" looks like impresionist french paintings, specially at the first act. I can't understand why "Vladimir Lensky" did not appear at the end joining his colleagues while the public kept applausing: maybe because it still was the URSS time (1984) and the whole cast were government employees ... Yuri Terminakov looks at present (2016) like an extremely tough and hard sargent. Anyway he is an extraordinary musician and an outstanding orchestra director too.
Thanks to Tchaikovsky, and thanks to Temirkanov too! Really wonderful and unforgettable!
One of my all time favorite opera, but it should be named Tatiana, as that is the biggest role, and she is on stage nearly from start to beginning. And it is mostly about here :o)
Too wonderful! I recently watched on RUclips interpretation of Onegin in fantastic mask waltz scene; Onegin in boar head blindfolds Tatyana before beginning ti waltz with her at Name Day celebration. Can someone tell me where to find this scene again?
@@johnwade1325 Sergei Leyferkus did a great Iago with Kiri Te Ke Nawa and Placido Domingo in a Convent Garden production of Otello. The best ever Iago.
@@SalamAlBizri Yes, a fantastic Iago! The tenor Yuri Marusin can be found on a very fine performance of Gianni Schicchi from La Scala with Juan Pons in the title part.
Delightful performance, very good voices, except Lenski. Boy, I would kill him myself, sooner than Onegin! The last scene, when passion fills the air and desperate Onegin is trying to invoke lost love of Tatiana- instead there are 2 motionless bodies across the room from each other! Disappointing.
Yuri Termikanov, tristemente scomparso oggi a Pietroburgo agli 84 anni di età.

Beautiful music in a great interpretation. Top singers, top orchestra, top conductor, wow!
That's a dignified and tender Gremin. Just fantastic.
I have just finished the book Eugene Onegin it's brilliant looking 4wd to hearing all of this video. Thankyou.
Wonderful interpretation. What a joy to watch them..
Mi ópera favorita cantada por verdaderos y estupendos cantantes.
Thanks a lot for posting it. I remember this production very well. This version of "Onegin" is one of my most favourite ones. Great!

The English subtitles are very very easy to understand ! Thanks a lot !
And very very useful !
Thank you for this upload. The washed out 1980s color and very traditional costumes and staging are very nostalgic. Musically this is superb too.

The best interprétation I have heard !

Waltz
during the polonaise the dancers should be taught to follow the music!
And orchestra should be taught to play polonaise - it was played like a music for morning exercises.
