Happy Mother’s Day Hilarie! In 1961 my mother would place me in front of tv during early Sunday mornings to watch Modern Farmer. JAFAF is the reflection of that memory. My mother passed May 5, 2023 at 94. Modern Farmer is the entry point where I learned to appreciate farmers and farming. Hope you, Hil and family have a great Mother’s Day!
My mom passed about a month after yours just a couple weeks before her 94th birthday.

Got to love Pete..I started watching Pete because I was starting a small farm..About 4 years ago..And now we are doing great we have Dexter cattle and we raise turkeys and meat chickens and egg layers and we just started raising ducks for eggs and meat..I really appreciate Pete's wisdom...thanks Pete ..yall have a great mother's day.

Love that notion of using the paper/mulch. Clean equipment always runs "more gooder" and goes much faster. LOL That's gonna be a NICE addition to the farm. Those Tulip steaks are looking delicious, great grill material there. Congrats on the new little one, just as cute as ever. Hi Jim, after the video I took what I could of them off. Heated them with a hair drier and scraped at them. Got the lettering off at least.

Hi Pete, nice excavator you got yourself, that is such a versatile tool, all you are missing now is a ditching and trenching bucket, and maybe later a post digger, and you will have a complete tool, it will do the hard work for you...Have fun!

You’ll find many projects for that excavator. A few bushings/washers will tighten that bucket up for your needs. Have fun!
It's in need of a new paint job so it fits in with all the red tractors. It's what I would do. IH Red would work quite well I be thinking.
Brings back memories of raising a newborn calf when the mother didn't survive. It was a lot of round the clock work getting the formula prepared and eventually weaning her.

Hi Pete, not sure if you’ve seen this new hydrant idea yet, but I saw a post from Midwest innovative tech that seems brilliant.
The basic premise is adding a pit less adapter to the bottom of the hydrant and placing the hydrant into a pvc pipe with the other half of the pit less in the bottom of the pvc pipe.

I know the feeling regarding calves, we’ve got 45 cows & heifers here in Australia, tiny scale really.
We leave them to own devices, but love to see new life.
For us, went back breeding as it’s more rewarding than just growing out steers, even if the losses are higher sometimes.

Pete and Hilary, Thank You both for great video today. Your tutorial on organic gardening was very interesting. It's wonderful that your Township provides you decent looking mulch and your Dad was kind enough to pick it up and deliver it to the farm. The Case Mini Hoe will definitely come in handy for a lot of jobs around the farm. Hilary looked reasonably comfortable operating the Mini Hoe. Like anything mechanical , it takes some time and practice. Nice to see the first heifer of the season. Your Tulip Cow is well built with a straight top line .
Modern excavators are fun to operate unlike the old ones with very stiff and hard hydraulic leavers or just hard cable winches. I think all yours needs is just general maintenance and it will be fine. Calf for mothers day is just awesome.
I enjoy seeing calving season on your farm, your cows always have great looking calf’s and the others always feels the need to help in the process of cleaning them and being apart of the birthing. Enjoy every video you and Hillary put out always full of great information, and has great humor in them. Watching Hillary on the excavator learning to run it, she did a great job for the first time being on one. Hope this calving season is as great as all the others on your farm Pete.

I sure envy your free compost. Here in Arkansa, I go to a saw mill and pay ten dollars for all the saw dust I can carry. Then I compost it with coffee grounds, char left over from my burning old trees and even the shells from all the eggs I eat. I’ve already used this year’s compost. I have already started the one for next year and will start one latter in the summer for the year after compost. Yip I sure do envy you and your free compost. Later

I love all the Espoma tones! I use the biotone when planting flowers or landscaping plants and even put it in my raised vege beds when I first plant.
