If you have a source of drywall manufacturing they often have end rolls of paper that you can usually barter with or get them for free. We lay it down and over lap by at least 6inches and only makes small holes for inserting your new plants. We had great success with this method.

You are spot on! I rented 3 sizes of tractors/buckets to see what I'd need for our property, while I was putting in French drains. We're on a foothill of the Blue Ridge, and I confirmed that we needed a 2' bucket to excavate (or shred up) the rocks, and that needed a BIG tractor to effectively run it. Ultimately, the decision was to buy a smaller tractor for all of our other needs, and then do a 1-2 rental for a big backhoe to take care of a whole list of projects. This was a much more cost effective plan.

Pete and Hilary, Thanks for the great video. Your really making progress learning to operate the Case Mini Excavator. It take time to experiment with controls and how the excavator reacts. There's so much good information on You Tube and etc. on how train a person to learn to operate the machine. Like anything else when you learn the basics. It just takes practice to perfect your skills. If you study an excavator's function. It's like a hydraulic arm . Which function similar to a human arm. Springtime is a busy time on the mixed farm with multiple chores between fencing , planting gardens and pasturing cattle , broiler chickens and pigs. The Burgers look delicious .

I use a 15" wide bucket for drain tile. It makes a wide enough trench for you get down in and adjust the tile position. You will find the thumb extremely useful for working with rocks. Also it can be used to hold the dirt in the bucket in sandy soils. I made new pins and bushings from 4140 steel stock. Easy to machine and last pretty good. Lots cheaper. too. New bushings were $80.00 apiece 10 yrs ago. With a mini Ex the key is practice, practice, practice.

Hey Pete on a note of your raking practice with the excavator. Theres a sweet spot where you can just swing the stick & not need to move the boom, and youll pull a nice flat grade. Its about a 3 foot section @ 6:08 in your vid. If you can "rake" while staying in that 3 foot sweet spot, youll have a much easier time!

Good morning Pete & Hilarie !!!!
Miss Cassidy heard the cows & came running !!!
I had a hard time explaining the situation …..
    😆
Bad day until I was finally able to convince her that even though this one didn’t have any cattle, there are plenty more that do !!!
Learning to deal with disappointment is just a part of life, even at her age.
Once she regained her composure, and a brief conversation, we spent a length of time watching previous videos of the cows …..
One good hug & life is good again !!!
    C’mon COWS !!!!
    P.S.
We are now getting ready to plant HER lil garden.
She informs me if I am good ….
She will let me have some food out of HER garden this year ……
