Man I could watch an hour straight of just mowing. Talking or no talking. Doesn't matter if it's all drone or all on board footage, or a mix of both. There is something therapeutic about the sights and sounds of a tractor in a field. And I'm serious. I could watch an hour straight.

As a teenager I remember a Hereford calf being stillborn or so we thought. That old cow turned around, stuck her nose under the calf and flung it in the air over and over. There was nothing but hooves, and tail flailing about, round about the fifth flip the calf left out a small bleat, and came to life. It was running around, nursing a half hour later. Mom knows best I guess! Spent many summer days mowing hay with a Massey Ferguson 150 with a New Holland 6' sickle bar mower, and an International crimped offset behind, we were too poor to afford a haybine. Good times!

I love the sound of that tractor. Brings back memories as it's the same 756 German Diesel that I grew up driving as a teenager. Raked hay and hauled in many bales with it in the hot summers. Luke Bryan's lyrics in What Makes You County: "I got my dirt road cred when I was twelve On a no cab tractor hauling 'em bales" makes me picture myself with a big ole grin on my face driving our 756 down the gravel road full throttle between the main acreage and our other hay field about a mile down the road. We traded it in for a 1086 11 years ago as we needed a little bigger HP tractor. First tractor we had was a Farmall 460 that we traded in for the 756 about the same time I was learning to drive a tractor. That's another era of Farmall history that there are some beautiful restorations of the 60 series out there.
My dad is feeling his age in his late 70's with some sore knees and is ready to get out of the cattle business this fall after we wean this year's calf crop. It is going to be a bitter sweet ending as my parents are ready to slow down but at the same time this was something they both grew up around and my brother and I enjoyed too, but with our families and full time jobs neither of us have the time to take it over plus my brother also lives 14 hours away now. We showed in 4-H, FFA, and our breed shows up until we both went to college. I still own a couple cows in the herd and provide the labor when we need to work the cattle or have a big project to do on the farm. I am a big part of our herd management decisions and maintaining our website, social media, and marketing our cattle sales so I am going to miss that but at the same time am also a bit relieved that I won't have to make an unexpected/short notice 30 minute trip out to help repair something or bring the cows in to doctor a sore foot or pinkeye. They luckily have some great neighbors that help them too that we are thankful for.

“Making hay while the sun shines.” I hadn’t thought about the history of that, but it’s so clear from watching your haying videos. Like all farmers over the centuries, you try to forecast the weather so that the freshly cut hay will remain dry until enough days lying in the field have passed for it to be collected into bales and stored without mold setting in. An anxious time, hoping for that sunshine until the hay is safely stored.
That tractor’s engine is a fine, smooth machine all right. It must feel even more satisfying using it since you have extended its working life and know every part of it, maintaining and replacing.

I learn to mow with a Farmall 350 and a pulled behind sickle bar mower. My dad would make the first lap around the field. And the he was off to plant corn and I mowed. He never let me plant corn as my rows were never straight enough to suit him. My last lap was always the hardest as it was mowing next to the fence row in the opposite direction. I was always having trouble plugging the bar with already cut hay or clipping a fence post. LOL. Lots of hay memories.

Thanks, Pete. A calf being born and hay being mowed. Doesn't get any farmier than that. Love the drone shots.

Sing a birth of an animal is so cute I don't know why people judge, if people judge they have something with their own life so that they have to work on.

Glad Cocoa had a healthy calf. Love his chocolate color. I guess that would be a fitting color for Cocoa to throw.
Always enjoy a good hay cutting video.

Pete, I so appreciate your willingness to give us videos that show so many perspectives. The drone footage. The close and personal footage. The dandelion footage. It's all fab!

Beautiful farm. Makes me want to be in the seat of that tractor. Nothing like the smell of of fresh cut hayfield. Cows are going to appreciate the hay this winter. You ought to get you a hive of bees since you have all that clover and dandelions in the field. That would make some good honey! Thanks for sharing your farm with us. God bless.

I loved the video. Takes me back about 40 years cutting hay with a JD 2510 and a NH 461, same type of setup, just different colours. I loved the sounds and took me back to the smell of the fresh cut hay. Just like you I wore hearing protection, partly for the ear protection, and partly because it made it easier to hear a change in the sound of the tractor or haybine to know when something was wrong!

Whew Pete, I thought you were gonna mow us down!
I enjoy watching you on vintage and antique equipment as much as I like watching millennial farmer and Cole the cornstar. I just watched Broyans farm set out cole crops in an antique 2 man planter with large metal wheels.
I sure do enjoy watching you and Hillary get in the garden and freshening up the yard and such. There's never a shortage of jobs to do when farmin'.
