      I recently purchased an Olympus OM-D E-M5, based on your video and a desire to save money… I would love to see more tips and tricks on that camera. By the way, the cheapest Leica T (Typ 701) on MPB right now is £424 in good condition. I’m starting to think that your video reviews affect the prices 🤔😂

    Fun fact, the Leica T has two SD card slots! If you have a small screwdriver you can take the two screws out of the plastic plate and replace the internal 16gb internal storage to a bigger storage, it's a microSD and it's not soldered or anything.

    • @MicroFourNerds
      @MicroFourNerds  5 месяцев назад +8

      Na Leica T has been around the $700-1000 USD mark.
      People prefer the Leica CL which is an updated version of the TL2.
      I picked up a TL2 for $1100 about a year ago new.
      The Leica T and TL aren’t really popular at all. I think they’re worth $500-700 though.
      Leica people prefer the M and SL line of cameras.

    I had the successor, the TL2, but I gave up on it. It had a number of flaws, but the dealbreaker was its terrible metering. The internal metering overexposed and clipped the sensor, sometimes by 2 stops. But since this was not a consistent behavior, you couldn't mitigate it with -2 stops of exposure compensation. On top of that, exposure compensation wasn't even available in M mode with Auto-ISO.
    I also found the autofocus to be extremely weak and practically unusable in low light. This is made even worse by the fact that the camera does not have an AF ON button. The sensor also had a very pronounced rolling shutter in silent mode.
    Still, I really liked the camera's modular touchscreen interface, which is much less cluttered than that of mainstream brands. But that aside, in this class of ultra-compact APS-C mirrorless cameras, I'd consider a Fuji X-E2s, a Sony A6000, or even a Canon M100 a better camera for real-life use.

    Somehow the camera makes me think of my OMD EM-10 Mk II. I just love how this camera feels good in hand, even more with the additional grip. These cameras like probably the Leica you showed, have a potential sentimental hook one can experience. Every single time I have to pick my between my EM-1 Mk ii and EM-10 Mk ii for a shutter therapy day, and I eventually go for the latter, I am always suddenly so joyful because this camera just makes sense to me!
    If one day I could get a camera that would merge an OM-1 in a body like my EM-10 Mk ii, with the same quirks and strengths, I'd immediately go to a local camera shop try this and swap my EM-1 Mk ii and EM-10 Mk ii together.

    First off,, VERY well done video, -your production values get better all the time. We seem to cross paths doing our individual cameras hunts. In my case it was the TL2 a few months back-- A local guy had 2--new and complete with the fancy box etc. --I gave it a good look over-- the red dot holds a powerful allure to be sure...But after some quick tests,, I just couldn't pull the trigger. First,, his best price was $900 US and after asking myself if I would use that camera over my GX-8 with its very nice EVF (built in and I do use the swivel angle), twisty rear screen and video modes and mic jack,,,, I decided to it was more than I wanted to spend to scratch an itch. I still circle the idea of getting a CL digital.. so the itch remains,,,

    @mikanichie4849 3 месяца назад

    I bought my Leica T new on sale with only JPY 80,000 years ago. Work with the EVF, I'm able to shot at low-angle, which is a experience other camera manufacturers rarely offer. I put really serious lens (Sigma 70-200mm F2.8) on it and got serious results from it. APS-C or Full-frame don't really matter any more, I'm satisfied.

    I bought that camera with two silver TTArtisans and after that I checked this movie. You will find gems like this on the internet, but it’s always a problem if you want something right at the moment.
    The 701 is so well made. Of course it doesn’t make any sense from a technology point of view, because it’s a slow camera with a really bad AF system, very few APSC L Mount lenses - only 4-5 affordable Sigma options, very pricy Leica lenses and some but not so many L mount manually lenses from china. On Fuji or Sony you get tons of them and APSC on L-Mount is completely discontinued - so I doubt we will see anything from Sigma, Leica or these chinese manufacturers.
    But this is a camera you get a smile when using it. It looks so amazing, feels amazing and I like the pictures from it, especially the monochrome pictures with more contrast and sharpness. And these TTArtisans lenses with F1.2/1.4 apertures are really great for giving you a old fashion look.

    Hahaha! Nice stop motion...I just sold mine together with silver TTArtisan 50mm f2, exactly the same color setup as yours. I used the money to fund my Lumix S5 + S 20-60 and S 50 f1.8 during last years Winter Deals. The one thing I really hate is the lack of the EVF. Bought it already 3x and sold it 3x always 400-450 euros body only. If you can find a good price Leica Elmarit-TL 18mm f2, you will be very happy with it. Having said that, I have no regrets selling the Leica T + Leica 18mm f2 + TTArtisan 50mm f2 in exchange for my Lumix S5 + 2 Lens Setup.

    I've looked quite a few times at this camera. It's such a fancy camera with a lot of unreasonable details. Type of stuff I am fond of.
    But I've always managed to avoid buying it. If I wanted to have a Leica camera I would not have any other lenses than a Leica one on it(I would be happy having this with one or two lenses). I think their lenses are more special than their cameras for the end result. And the 23mm 2.0 Leica lens is three to four times as expensive as the body here, sometimes more.(The 18mm looks amazing too but a little too wide and slow to be a single lens for me)
    So for a complete Leica package a taste of this system still is more or less Leica priced, perhaps at the lowest end of that spectrum but still a part of it 🙂

    I've had the T 701 and the TL2 for a long time now. By far one of the best kept secrets in photography at this point. The body's are a steal for a price. When new, they were extravagantly priced but now they can be had for $400 USD or so. I got mine for $900 USD brand new when they had a sale during the camera's discontinuing. I have a few of the leica lenses, which often still hold their value and even the cheapest lens can buy you two of the T bodies! Leica M body owners won't admit it outright, but you can take the T body, add the 35mm 1.4 summilux TL lens and you have photo quality that looks near exactly as an expensive M body camera with Leica M mount lenses...for a fraction of the price.
    There's really nothing else like it out there though. Hand polished, designed by Audi, and the interface is really something special. It's been my only camera for a long while now and last week I added a Lumix GX85 to the collection. I feel so happy to have these amazing cameras. Thanks for covering this Leica camera because it doesn't often get the love it deserves.

    Hey i found your video by mistake!!! Guess what! i do have that particular Leica, it was a gift actually from someone who knew would not be into Photography full time. I do love and hate the camera to be honest. It doesnt have modern basic (and needed) features like nowadays cameras, like Focus Peaking (in case you use it with manual focus like in my case), the screen gets stuck from time to time, it takes long time to go back and take another pic again while is "processing" the last picture you took, and more; not to mention that quality base, its not so amazing, BUT!!! i guess that is where sex appeal shows up: that Digital look with heavy noise, color bending, weird muddy merge of RGB's IS WHY I LOVE IT! it has its own character. Those noisy images give a pleasant 2000's photo look. and if you use it in B&W, even better, like if the pictures were taken with a high noise film. I love this Camera, i do have a 35mm 1.4 TT Artisan attached to it, and goes with me wherever i go. Red dot is spotted easily by Lieca connoisseur out there and they believe the price might be really high, but when realize that somehow is the cheapest Leica around with a decent quality, they would like, why not, get one.
    Love your review!!!

    I love the machining from billet concept--it's almost MoMA-worthy (as are a number of Leicas, but you pay for that look with less-than-stellar ergo, especially the insecure grip). I just wish they'd have gone with MFT rather than APS-C, especially given Leica's relationship with Lumix (including the fact that some Leica cameras are essentially re-badged Lumix models). I'll probably get the G9 II and I'm considering an S5 II (only for shorter FLs as the whole reason I have a G9 "I" is the smaller/lighter long lenses, like the Leica 100-400), so who knows, maybe I'll get a T as well. Thanks for the YT, as that body's never been on my radar.

    While waiting for the Chimney Stacks to be knocked down at Fiddler's Ferry I was stood next to a chap with a Leica camera. Other than pushing my nose up against a showroom display, this was the closest I've ever been to a Leica camera. And I thought my Panasonic Leica glass was expensive.
    BTW it was a foggy day and all we heard was a siren followed by a dull sounding explosion. The day before, was perfectly clear.
    We'll gloss over the fact that I nearly lost my drone half way across the Mersey filming the Silver Jubilee bridge at midnight. When I took off, five minutes later the drone said "Home Point updated". I thought no more of this little factoid until there was fifteen minutes left on the battery. I had one of those sphincter moments thinking that it would return to the middle of the Mersey. I'd only had the drone a week

    What would be interesting? Also would be your comparison of this camera with the. YiM1 camera and lens combination.

    I started casually browsing eBay for a T after this video and decided to roll the dice on one that was listed as having a broken sensor, but was missing a battery. Wanged a new battery in it and it just worked. Best 180 euros I have ever spent

    It does seem odd with so many other cameras have image stabilization tech built-in, that Leica did not include it at least on the sensor.

    I wish Leica didn't give up on the APS-C cameras. Hope Panny or Sigma release a body to breathe some life into it. It's good Sigma releaased a few lenses, but with they were stabilized to compensate for the lack of IBIS. O have a CL btw. The 45mp files coming out of that thing are simply amazing.

    Funny to see such a lens on a Leica, it matches the style. Anyway you could always try a sigma fp(l) now you have those lenses. Also the Yi M1's menus looks just like the Leica.. hmm.. you should try one of those sometime, they were very cheap with good raw(DNG) image quality.

    had a TL and a TL2 it’s a well made camera and takes nice images however it is frustrating to use and hence I sold mine and got a Q2. Not great with manual lenses

    • @ryankwan1934
      @ryankwan1934 5 месяцев назад

      Yes. The TL/TL2 user interface is an exercise in frustration. Did you have the EVF for it? It blew my mind that you couldn't move the AF point with the touch screen when the EVF was mounted. I sold mine for the exact same reason. Such a shame though. It was a camera that felt special in the hand and output was great.

      Yeah I know what you mean! I've been using the Brightin Star 28mm f2.8 brass lens (it arrived after I filmed this video so I couldn't feature it unfortunately!) And even with the aps-c crop it's a really decent wider option and it's super small 😊
      Edited to add: no auto focus tho on that lens

    Unfortunately this range was discontinued by Leica. T, TL, TL2, as the CL! The original TL mount matured SL and finally to the L-Mount. They had 2 excellent lenses the 35mm f/1.4 (Peter Karbe design) and the macro lens, both Made in Germany. As the Leica SL lenses did not have a focal multiplier they even steered the SL user to buy a CL/TL to have a 1.5 crop. You could even adapt M mount lenses to the system, with embedded lens corrections into the menu with the of course the Leica T to M mount adapter (with could read the 6 bit code from your recent M lens). I am of the opinion adopters of the system had a cold shower when the system was discontinued, the same story with Canon M cameras. In my opinion Leica used this platform as a test platform for the upcoming small format, full frame, system, first with the SL, continued with the SL2 and culminating into the L-mount alliance.The same story with Canon. They introduced the EF-M mount to try out a mirrorless system, they finally ditch the system in favour of the EOS-RF and RF-S system.
    If my memory serves me well, the original T had no focus peaking, the TL has and the TL2 looses the tiny little flash. All T cameras can use the EVF-020 (same as the Leica M10). The EVF-020 has even build in GPS!. If you want maximum compatibility with L-mount lenses I would steer towards the TL2/CL.
    The Leica T series were designed to aid the smartphone user to migrate towards a decent camera system with a "smart phone" like menu system. The same story with the Zeiss ZX1 with integrated Adobe Lightroom features.

    Once again, Emily forces me to put fingers in my ears and repeat to myself, "I'm not buying a Leica!" 😂 Actually, I have a Fauxleica, also known as the Lumix LX7 or Leica D-Luxe 6. It's so tiny with a Leica 1.4-2.3 stabilized lens, multi-aspect ratio, macro, 24-90 zoom. And, turn on iZoom to go to 180mm with raw files thrown in. And, FHD! A truly tiny delight! So I can resist your siren call (this time)! No Leica for me, just my beautiful Fauxleica Lumix LX7. 👍😉

      Thanks so much! I've been trying to experiment with a few different things (sometimes succeeding and sometimes not haha) the things in this video I'm experimenting with is a mist filter on my main camera (i use the Formatt Hitech 1/4 strength gold mist) and I've also bought a little portable smoke machine for a bit of haze in the background. I possibly went a bit over the top in this video but I'm getting there slowly! 😁💪
