Good vdo Im a ex gp rider and this is by far the best way to learn you get more feedback from your bike and yourself in 1 weekend then doing months and months on the road... Also you met a great bunch of people amd can learn from setup suspension etc from your pit neighbours If you love your bike take it to the track if you do you will be addicted.
Great tip I got on my 1st track day was start your 1st session at the back of the group in pit lane, that way u can always pass slower riders but won't get intimidated by faster riders coming past like if you'd started at the front
Why would I do that when I can use MY OWN drone? My own iphone or Samsung and a friend? Photographers and tattoo artists are 2 jobs that think they are way to valuable 😂
Do my first track day in a few weeks on an SV650, this video has really helped with a few questions and had, and made me feel a little more at ease, Nice ones guys...
One good tip I was given, easy into bends/corners, set yourself up properly to exit faster, if you come flying into corner 'not properly in control' invariably you'll have the wrong line to exit, basically take it easy at first and build on what you've learnt. ... and enjoy 👍
We need more like this on RUclips. I see loads of videos by youtubers that has no clue about body position and how to ride safe with margin of error. Especially in the US it seems like. And they are all on supersports....
what you should do when straping down the bike is strap it down from the stand side first. This is so that if you over tighten a strap on the non-stand side the bike does not fall over... You can tighten a strap down on the stand side stand down and not worry about the bike falling over when doing the other side.
I'd say it's a bad idea to use hook straps over the yoke, or anywhere that compresses the suspensions for that matter. You have to either fully compress the suspensions (thus potentially damaging the seals if you hit a bump), or risk the straps getting loose if you hit a bump and the bike's suspension is compressed. In my experience, it's always better to use the wheel axle on the front and the swingarm on the rear. The bike will not move and the suspensions will be free to move in case of a bump.
Thanks, makes sense to get on track especially if you have one of the best in world nearby. We have our own track day there in May: rewards.bennetts.co.uk/rewards/bennetts-track-days-2024 Hope to see you there. Cheers, Michael
Just done Caldwell, not done one for years and years. It was a lot faster than I expected for novice. I'm not a slow rider on the road so soon got into it but if you were pretty green and not a fast road rider it may have been a bit intimidating.
It can depend who's running it - our track days try to ensure different abilities are in the right groups, and having done Cadwell on a Grom in the past on a Bennetts BikeSocial track day, I can say that MSV, who we work with on them, did an excellent job.
@@bennettsbikesocial I was one of the few riders on a pure road bike that rode there. It was mainly trailers and tyre warmer boys on track bikes. I'd say it was 90% track bike. It was also mixed with the inter group and some of those guys were pretty quick with some vaguely strong moves going on. My mate wants to do one but I'm suggesting he does the pure novice one at Cadwell with no other levels.
Doing my first trackday in a few weeks at cadwell. I do have experience on track in a car but after recently passing my bike test, im hoping a trackday will increase my confidence in cornering on the road
@@nawazskrr6027 it went fantastic, yes it defiantly made me more confident in the bike, amazing how far you can push the bike on track. Will be doing a few more next year.
Thanks, you've definitely made up my mind to finally book a yamaha day. Costly at £500 for the day where full bike/gear/fuel is provided but i guess that will be a good long term investment
The only piece of advice I would also like you to have talked about is tyres, I'm sure this can be very important to competent track day riders, what would you suggest with regard to novices? Are normal road tyes on a sport bike still ok to use on track? Good video.
@@bennettsbikesocial No worries mate. I've narrowed down bikes to test ride this month and next, and hopefully will come to a decision by December. In addition, I found a good shop that also supports track days.
Great video. I'm soon to get into track days. I have a couple of bikes but not suitable for the track. I'm going to get an RC390 and learn all the fundamentals before trying to go fast. Would be great to leap on a 600RR but it's not for me. I want to learn properly for once :-) Drivers don't jump into an F3 (or whatever) car but that's what we riders can (almost) do - some road bikes are pretty close to superbike class out of the box and trying to learn on one is probably very difficult. Thanks for the tips - I have the hurdle of language as I'm an ex-pat too - but it'll be all good.
From someone who is relatively new to track days my 2 bits of advise is 1. brakes. My second day out when I got some more confidence and speed into corners my brakes couldn't cope. So for the next day out I rebuild the calipers, racing brake fluid and sinster pads. Game charger. And 2. Forget about getting the knee down. I have seen some very silly and costly mistakes from new track day users trying to get the knee down. Like this video explains just work on your lines and body position for the first 3 or 4 days out then you can start to think about getting the knee down when the cornering speed comes.
@@bennettsbikesocial Different. I don't know how far away tracks tend to be from cities in UK, but in Canada most people don't ride to tracks. I mean, the first time I did and I was the only one; everyone else towed. It was horrible for me both times since I couldn't bring enough water in my backpack. Most participants have dedicated track bikes because insurance is crazy on sport bikes here in Ontario, Canada. We also need to tape off the mirrors and lights and replace the coolant with water. Tracks here also have very little, if at all, covered areas so people bring their own canopies. I get the impression that track days in UK are more accessible to beginners because there's less initial financial commitment required.
pravesh736 organizers recommend water with waterwetter for anti corrosion. Coolant (anti freeze) is made of glycol. It’s slippery and hard to clean when spilled. There’s a chance of spilling when you crash. It’s a reasonable concern but it makes it harder to ride your daily bike to a track and get a taste of track days
1) Take two Yamaha Tracer 900s one fitted with dry tyres and the other a wet compound tire to the novice session and blow every one away! 2) Take a full pit crew, tire warmers, 3 sets of quali tyres, and a pit wall engineer, motorhome, 3) Bring a grid girl equipped with umbrella and bikini to look badass!!! 4) Take the bike to the finish, no early retirement.
