@@ind3n I'd even go a step further and say it's one of the best songs I've ever heard period. Lyrics are incredible, easy to understand but by no means devoid of wordplay and symbolism. Structure is unique and dynamic without going off the rails. Emotionally it just always put me in a good mood even though it's told through a pessimistic lens.

Honestly this album perfectly captures being young in the UK. Especially the night life.
The rowdy nights out, getting smashed in local pubs and bars, shitty clubs, drunken scraps, dodgy taxi's, the love/hate relationship with your home town and making it out the other end with your best mates with stories to tell for years to come.
Guaranteed since this album came out, almost every British teenager has had a love affair with it at some point.
So glad you discovered this absolute gem of an album!

I have ,watched this post at least 10 times, it is my go to every Friday after drinking. Almost like a comfort blanket. Why? Because although I loved early arctic monkeys I never really understood or appreciated just how good the first album was, considering when they made this they were a bunch of 16/17 yr olds from Sheffield. Just seeing the genuine joy on your face when deep down you went into this wanting to hate it, but after 1 track having the love of good music to throw away your earlier predjuces to love the fuck out of what you were listening to...love your reaction almost as much as the best debit album of all time. My favourite thing about old arctic monkeys is by far the lyrics and story telling - every song is just dripping with northern slang and such vivid imagery of the dingy pubs, drink and drugs of poor northern towns and it makes me feel at home every time.

When I went to college I discovered the Arctic Monkeys and thought they were good. Then I heard the ending of A Certain Romance...
Now I’m a massive fan of rock again!
