Brad is right in a way as it is the least ambitious album by Arctic Monkeys. They didn't try to impress people with it and Alex didn't play a character while making this album and touring it afterwards, at least until he got the haircut. SIAS is like trying to confront the heartbreak and mourn it while AM is equivalent of numbing yourself with booze and drugs. I hope that you will give Submarine EP a chance.

Today was one of those days for me, I was kinda bored and directionless, not feeling too great but this has gotta be one of the first cases in a while where a video has cheered me up immensly. This was a very fun, humourous and enjoyable video to watch Brad, you quite literally made my day. :) Cool to see the hype around Arctic is getting to you to, what I find with most of their stuff is that yes, you do need to be in a certain mindset to get the most out of their music. Suck It And See was, weridly enough, the last and hardest album for me to get into regarding their catalogue (I love it now, of course disregarding Brick by Brick), so I'm surpised you actually liked it on first listen. Also, your vaccum cleaner joke had me laughing hard along with you, funniest joke I've heard all year.

You're allowed to be critical of what you enjoy, and I've found a lot of humour in doing so, especially from a lot of your observations. Thanks for the ride man, you rock!
Honestly I really enjoyed these AM videos so much, thought I was not thinking the same as you most of the time, but it was really a fun ride. So thank you Brad! PS I think I listened so much to these videos that for me Alex Turner is just "fucking Alex Turner"
You're correct about Alex Turner's song writing. If you went back and listened to all the other songs again, you'd hear them differently. His lyrics are absolutely top tier - I'd honestly put him up there with literally anyone in that department.
Piledriver Walz is my favorite! It's actually one of the 6 "SUBMARINE" tracks he wrote for the movie. Check them out, they're probably my favorite love songs by Alex Turner.
It’s a British classic , not boring at all. Inspired many modern British bands after its released including oasis and still strikes a chord with today’s youth over 30 years after its release.
I found it so funny when you were laughing about the lyrics in I Wanna be Yours because while you said it was nothing like poetry, the song’s lyrics actually come from a poem of the same name from a really famous punk poet called John Cooper Clarke who Alex Turner studied at school.
Humbug is one of my fav album and the lyrics are a lot for it, also the calm full moon ambiance YES I totally get that it could sound weird at first, but I think it could grow on you as it did for me, the writing is great when you learn to appreciate Alex's metaphoric descriptions

The fact that Brad is liking this album, and that he really enjoyed Love is a Laserquest is making me feel so fufilled bc personally SIAS is like in my top 3 AM albums
I first listened to SIAS in 2014 after a particularly bad heartbreak from a 4 year relationship, so my own experiences at the time definitely mirrored the album's themes, particularly on Love is a Laserquest. I agree that the album is less ambitious, but I don't think it's necessarily worse for that. It's one of my favourite Arctic Monkeys albums, overall, tbh. I'm also of the mind that this is Alex's writing at some of it's best, because it doesn't try to be anything more than what it is. Previous albums, for example Humbug, whilst lyrically great, can border on the almost fantastical and the songs can be overly whimsical in nature. SIAS is very imagery heavy, but it's grounded, it's real and raw, it's relatable.
Its kinda fitting that SIAS is the last album Brad listened to, he has gone full circle in a way by the order he went with listening to all the records and the fact he ended this journy in some kind of surprised induced drunken state (where he is expecting some bad time but intern went 180 with how good SIAS made him feel) and went the full pantheon of AM emotions along the way.
and then the epilogue is the Car. I feel like that album should be AM's last album especially with songs like Big Ideas that kinda represents a farewell.
