just take the natural log on both sides. we will move the (x+2) to the front and have (x+2)ln 9 = ln 36. Pretty easy to see that ln 9= ln (3^2) and likewise that ln 36= ln(6^2) so we get x+2= ln 6/ ln 3, and the final is x=ln (6) - ln (3) -2.
