Had a lot of you asking where I got the ends that go in my sockets so you can pound on them with a hammer with out destroying your socket or extension. Here they are. If the links don't work just google the part number and see who has them.

Guess that means every garage mechanic across world already bought em all...
Thanks a lot fellas!😂🤣🤙
I just use an old extension
I had a subframe swapped on a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica in 2019, I think the guy under charged on the job, whole thing was like 1300canadian. Was a father son shop. The son looked like that pos Chrysler caused the job to be not so straight forward, but paid the with a small stack of hundreds, then got about 2 years out of that car, then the timing belt went.
Never again will I get a post purchase inspection, or a Chrysler product

You're safe with me. It is amazing how people will jump ship in a heartbeat. I've been enjoying humor and skills for YEARS and don't plan on changing. At least not at my age (68). How about an update on Miss Hannah and Miss Marie. I loved when you had these 2 on video. They were a comedy team together. Hope all is well with both of them.
I was panicking really bad but then I read this 😂 Thanks for the great content Dr.O
Guys who wouldn't stay at work for six extra minutes without putting in for 1/10 hour of overtime are the first ones who complain when someone else tries to monetize the work they do.
I wasn't aware you had memberships. I just signed up! You've saved me at least $10k by enabling me to do my own work on my cars!
All good things come to those who wait...
The sticker shock while looking at anything new is why more people are fixing these cars!
Carmakers are really pricing people out of new cars. They need to produce more base models and compacts.
He's going to be destroyed when that EV battery dies in the next couple of years.. and all this investment was a loss.
Used parts market is seeing an upsurge on sales and increasing prices.
@@calhollia prius battery is not that expensive. Also a BEV battery is very well monitored. Sure, they can die but so can a Toyota engine.
2010 Prius is selling for $5000 - $6000 . I have an 09 with 171,000 . The only things that has been replaced is a thermostat ,muffler and accessory battery(twice) They last about eight years . The brakes
otors have been done twice. They last about 65,000 miles. It still has original struts\shocks that are still good but I plan on replacing them before they start leaking . The frame is solid . It has no rattles or clunks . I was getting 51 MPG until I put new tires on it, It dropped about 6 MPG. They are worth putting the money into them. I life a bit east or Erik and they put salt down if it might snow . One year I had a salt speed bump in front of my house
Update on the Prius. It is SMA perfect and happy to be alive and well. In 1 week I put 1k miles on it with the trip to NYC and back. Very happy with craftsmanship and overall experience.
The only thing that could possibly make me happier, is if Mr., Eric would grant the same chance in life for 2001 volvo v70xc
P.S. 4 month ago I asked dealer to inspect the break lines for rust and safety-they told me they were safe and sound. Subframe- well dealership was so willing to sell me multiple service packages(coolant flush, spark plugs, inverter coolant flush..all of which I did myself and told them about it) that totally forgot to comment on subframe
Fluid film the rest of the car slow that rust down
It was an inherited car. One of many in the fleet, but nice to drive to the lower socioeconomic areas for work purposes. Will sure fluid film it this week. i@@joesmith7412
@@joesmith7412this car belonged to late mother in law and wife still likes it as a memory of her, plus it is great to travel to lower socioeconomic areas for work. Will plan to fluid film it later this week.
You are a lucky person to be local and have him as your mechanic. Definitely soak the car in some kind of fluid film, woolwax, krown, NH undercoating - something. It'll help the car last a little longer. the Southern Tier of NY with the abundance of dirt roads covered in salt year round - the cars get eaten up so badly in rust.
That's the reason why my family switched to volvo
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stop apologizing for using your torch, torqueing by experience, using crimp and seal connectors, welding stuff together, or any of the other methods you use. You are easily the best mechanic on RUclips. I've tried every other channel and none of them come close. Half of your repairs are fixing some other "mechanic's" mistakes or using your knowledge and experience to solve problems they couldn't. The vast majority of us are tuning in to watch you work, here your schtick, see a small part of your relationship with Mrs. O, and listen to you grouse about the lawnmower man and Dorman parts. We're here for the story, the camaraderie, the ups and downs. If ANY viewer thinks they're helping or contributing by criticizing your work, methods, relationships, etc. OR calling your shop?! WTF, they are completely missing the point. Most of us accept the terms of the deal, you make videos to share your knowledge and supplement your income and we get to watch and enjoy because you're a good mechanic, a decent human being, and good at making videos. You have absolutely nothing to explain or apologize for. I hope you keep making videos!
Try "Rainman Ray's Repairs". He is also top shelf.
I don't think he's going to stop making videos. And your comment sounds just like the ones I used to write back in the day.... Just about as long also! Lol. Eric is the best mechanic on y tube without a doubt, hands down, no exceptions. But you know I've noticed something. He's much happier when he's on the search for the green crusties or finding things that other shops couldn't. When he has to deal with Cold rusted, Northern steel, the Mr Hyde comes out of Dr Jekyll and he loses his patience, Rather quickly sometimes. Eric... You decide if you owe Mrs O a dinner and a movie night, because she didn't actually ruin the video like you told her she did. We see here as a nice humble lady, even though like most husbands say..... You don't have to live with her... Or boy does she got you fooled...... But all meant in Innocent Loving spousal commarodery of course. So be careful because you don't want to make Mrs O feel feel awkward about coming out during a video because after all..... She is the other half of South Point Auto! Even though she won't let up and give in on the icecream machine. Also yes you get millions of comments and many say your doing it wrong or I do it this way and you make that more than obvious to them when your ripping apart the northern rusties! What can I say.... We all have preferences on what we do and don't always get to choose our favs but that's life and we just have to work through what we get. If we always got to have our favorites then we would want cake with it and want to eat it too. Maybe that's the real reason she won't allow you to get an icecream machine.! Come on Eric.... First an ice cream machine then comes a cake machine. Easy Dr Jekyll! Lol I hope you took this comment in fun because it was factual but meant no harm. So take care for now... Your long time viewer J Poll!

Maybe if I sent Eric a hunnerd bucks I could talk him into getting me a couple from the Avoca/Bath yard and send them to me and keep the change... 😄
I live in Atlanta Georgia and get upset because it never snows but when I see these rusted out cars I get over it
I'm working on my 2008 Toyota Sienna today, it has 220,000 miles and has been in Michigan its whole life, and parked outdoors for half of it. There is just a little superficial rust underneath. Every bolt is easy to remove. Same with our other two cars. I think where Eric's shop is they have a lot of dirt roads and use a lot of calcium chloride for dust control.

2 (and soon to be 3) Toyota videos in a row, Scotty must be having a heart attack right about now!
Probably having a fit by throwing the cat pillow.
who cares about that hack anyways
*BIG FANCY SCANTOOL* I think Scotty means well but I just can't listen to him talk, hes.. eccentric
Not really.. considering this car has done its job and then some.. it’s over 10 years old in the North of all places.. you’d be doing this on a 5 year old any other make or model up there … THATS how good Toyotas rust proofing is after the Tacoma frame fiascos. On the last video, the damn ECU wasn’t communicating in the Toyota but IT WAS STILL RUNNING FINE… that “hack” has a point about Toyotas.
😂
Mrs. O can never ruin a video! Especially on Mother’s Day!

First aid kit! One time, many years ago, I went to the auto parts store to get the stuff I needed to replace the water pump on my car. When all was collected and put in a box, I asked the counter guy, “What am I forgetting?” He looked in the box, thought a moments, and said “Band Aids?”
That's actually pretty funny. I recently replaced a center link, pitman and tie rods on my truck. I was stunned I did it without bloodying a knuckle or getting a slice somewhere
🤣🤣🤣
Peroxide is what I used to clean repair induced injuries, watch out for sharp rusty steel!
What is the brand and part number of the anvil tool that fits in sockets to knock out the tie rod end?
When you get old and have permanent busted knuckles, you start thinking of situations in which your knuckles can get busted and take extra special care in order for it not to happen.
Thanks for the new videos! You're customers don't realize what a gem they have, with you working on their vehicles. Excellent job as usual 😊
Obviously they do or he wouldn't have customers..if he was terrible or unskilled they wouldn't bring their cars.
I dont blame anyone for keeping an older car on the road. Both of mine are 20 plus yrs old. In 2019, i had a head gasket blow (Durango 4.7 174k at the time) and i was about to have roughly $3000 worh of work done to keep it going for about 10 years and the difference in original repairs, new head gaskets and replacing the engine was $1500 so i had a Summit Racing OEM reman engine put in. 20k miles later and all is good. Down south our frams dont rust like this. You can read all the labels and still see the grease pen marks from the assembly line, upc codes too. I love not being tied to a monthly payment on depreciating planned obsolescence.
MY 2019 SUBIE ALREADY SPENT 2K ON NEW TIRES AND BRAKES AND OIL AND LABOR
Isn't it a blessing to have a customer with the proper car service mindset.
They're almost extinct.
This is much like watching an orthopedic surgeon doing their craft. Precision and grunts to reassemble a leg from hip, knee, to ankle.
🤣Man he's good! Only took 17 minutes and 33 seconds to remove the subframe. Cake walk!
Havent watched it yet, but will bet big $$$ Big nasty helped him! ha!
Being in Florida, i have the utmost respect for mechanics that consistently have to work on rusty cars. Sometimes extremely rusted cars. Incredible perseverance and ability to not get frustrated and i really admire it 👍
Happy Mothers Day to Mrs. O! OH you to Eric!🤣
Ah, the mowerman is back! It's summer again!
I own 2 of these Prius. Both are Texas cars all their lives. Absolutely no rust. Salt does a number on steel.
Love the tools presented here to make things easier. I worked on my wife’s Prius today. Just the cabin blower motor needed replacing. That is basically the extent of my mechanic ability.
I always took extra good care of the customers that preemptively made repairs, instead of waiting for a big failure. It's nice to see people who want to take care of their vehicles.
Reminds me of the days working on the original British Austin /Morris minis back in the sixties. It didn't matter how gentle you were removing the sub frame bolts, the floor of the car always came with them. The rest of the weekend was then spent welding In new floor panels. Another great video Mr O
102.7 The RUST made me spit out my coffee!

102.7....The Rust! Good one! (former radio jock here)
Happy mother's day Mrs. O. Another great video Eric.
I'm so old I remember cars without sub-frames. Bodies rusted but they didn't collapse from rust. Thanks.
or not and the bodies still fair with frame rotted out and patches welded everywhere.... neighbors ford crown vic. in the mid 1990's, they tried to give it to me for free, I turned it down because the frame was patched so many times there was nothing left, even the welding shop told them no more. lol
Thank you very much Mr O! Drinking the 4th cup of coffee sure makes for a good day, with SMA!
Good until the last drop.

Talking about engine size in the introduction…“I don’t know what engines is in it, it’s big” 😂…awesome! You just can’t go wrong with ol’ Eric! 🇺🇸 ‘Merica
Man..no matter how life is going, whatever stressers arise, a long Eric O video on a sunny day off is fing golden.
One thing I’ve found working on Toyotas in rusty Ontario 🇨🇦 is that 99% of their fasteners always seem to come off without breaking or seizing. They are much better than anything else out there ! Just one more reason to spray rust protection annually.
Love the show E. Happy Mother’s Day to Mrs. O ! ❤️
Nice to see an old car and and old part get a new lease on life. Annual rust proofing might have prevented it. I just got a used 2014 Yaris. I immediately started the rust roofing, even for a 10 year old used car.
A lot of work to save a rust bucket that's on borrowed time. I'd hate to do this job on my back. Great video for someone who wants to give their Prius a little more time. Thanks Mr. O.
*also from rust belt*
I'm a Toyota guy and you are making me nostalgic - I miss doing some of these "renovations" where you are setting an older vehicle up for a good few more years of service.
That's crazy that all this work only gets you "a few more years".. lol. I wouldn't be able to stand it. That's just too much loss all the time. I'd have to move
@@calholli Perhaps I am being conservative. I did this level of work on a Tercel for a buddy - he wound up getting more mileage out of it (before it got retired) after the work than it had before the work.
Yeah you can keep your Toyotas I bought one for the first and last time I'll never buy another one it is nothing but a nightmare! My Dodge neon was a lot better vehicle! Almost made it to 20 years my Toyota is dying with rust and all these problems with this car has I'll never buy another one ever again
@@peachyclean93 If you're going to buy a Toyota.. get a 4x4 and manual transmission. Those last.. But in the Rust belt? Ya'll are on your own. lol. Everything dies there, as far as I can tell.
Man, if we could come up with affordable rustproof frames/bodies, a lot of these problems could be eliminated.
Eric: Gasp, “Well that was easy!” 😂
Its not an sma video without the guy across the street mowing his grass!😂 He must watch your shop to see if the tripod is out and runs out there to mow! Great video bud made it to the end without falling asleep!
I think he listens for the impact tools!
I used to work on cars in Minnesota. Now I work on cars in Tennessee . Sure don’t miss the rust .Eric spends more time on a prayer rug than an Imam .
I like how they put all those holes in the frame for “drainage” but just end up creating a spot for the rust to start. A little spray foam in the voids helps seal it from holding moisture and salt. Cars are not made for northern states that use salt on the roads.
Paint tends to be thin at the edges of stuff. I think most of the holes are more for weight and saving cost on metal rather than for drainage.
Fun to see you work on "my" car - same year, color, wheels. A lot less rust, though. Central Indiana uses salt, too, but I sprayed a can of CRC SP-400 Corrosion Inhibitor (aka cosmoline) on my subframe, just like the can I sent you a few years ago, and I've got zero rust. Nada. Fluid Film works too of course, but it's messy and has to reapplied every year. Cosmoline doesn't wash off and lasts several years, if not "forever". You didn't say how many miles on the Prius. I'm on my original battery, but only 100k, and fingers crossed it will give me a few more years.
cosmoline seems to be some very good stuff!
@@efil4kizum Yup. The Navy has used it for many decades. It dries to a translucent amber color, or it's available in black. A cheaper version is Crown Corrosion Suppressant 101, or "6013" which is also on the can. I bought a case of 12 10.5 oz. cans. A cheap spray nozzle and hose can be found on Amazon that fits some spray cans. I use that to get into holes in the subframe. It could also be used to access inside doors, body panels, etc. A light spritz on wheel hubs and inside wheels prevents corrosion and ensures they'll always come off easily. I use it like I would Fluid Film, except for me it's "one and done". It can be reapplied, but I haven't found that to be necessary.
Do you think the cosomline is as safe for bushings as fluid film or surface Shield ? I was doing my wife's new passport yesterday and I taped off and tin foil all the rubber. Was using amsoil HD on the outside and surface shield on the inside surfaces. @@johndorrell1
@@johndorrell1 i have been using black cosmoline on my pickup trucks 3rd member and prop shaft... its hard to get anything to actually STICK in those areas and survive the Iowa rains haha

I like the red and green dots on Toyota parts for port and starboard. Took me a while to realise that's what they were for!
Deeeez nuts!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Gets me every time. He actually makes me laugh out loud while watching. Thanks for the videos.
They are cotter pins. 5:30 Here is why. In 1970 I worked as an inspector on the Final Assembly Line at the General Motors Oldsmobile factory. Attached to each car was a paper inspection card with a long list of items to be inspected. Each inspector had a uniquely shaped paper-punch. As I inspected the line-items I was responsible for I used my paper-punch to make a hole next to each if it was good. Some of the items I inspected were the "left upper A-frame front cotter pin", "left upper A-frame rear cotter pin", "left lower A-frame front cotter pin", "left lower A-frame rear cotter pin", and "left front axle nut cotter pin." I then passed the inspection card across the car to the right side inspector who inspected the "right upper A-frame front cotter pin", "right upper A-frame rear cotter pin", "right lower A-frame front cotter pin", "right lower A-frame rear cotter pin", and "right front axle nut cotter pin." TEN COTTER PINS, not one "split pin." The card also had line item for "trunk lid fitment" and "hood safety latch", not "boot" not "bonnet". So stop with the "correction" about those being "split pins". They are cotter pins in the United States of America, and have been to my _certain_ knowledge for at least 54 years.
Thor has never failed me either! That is a bad sum bip! Thanks for showing me the way!😊

Penetrating oil must be pretty rare in the old Avoca town I expect. In this type of work I would be hitting every bolt and nut with it before disassembly, but sometimes I think Eric likes a little challenge in his work.

Absolutely love this - I see you doing the same things that experience helped me learn to deal with the rust. It kind of amazes me that someone completely disconnected and in a different country identified all the same coping mechanisms (pre-youtube) to deal with the rusties.
The only time I brought in a job to replace a K-member I was told, "NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!" Steve did the same thing, got a good used one and did a fantastic job putting it in. That's a LOT of work.

This is crazy. Im from northern Norway, we use winter tires with studs, and never knew about salting roads until the Internet. I drive a 2001 vw Transporter, and last year it bearly started developing surface-rust in some spots in the chassis. Underneath its old, but mint.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the US automakers have encouraged the wide usage of salt on the roads of the northern states. They will sell a lot more cars and trucks that way.

We will have to call that a crab or lobster car because it is definitely a crustacean LOL😅
I live in minnesota, I replaced the subframe under my 94 Saturn at the same time that I did the clutch. The subframe was beyond rusted out when I did that. It was bad but we definitely use salt on the roads in the winter and that's what made it bad. But it also rusted out the the body or structure of the car under the doors in the backseat I replace the timing chain did not use enough Lactaid on the intake manifold cam and destroy the engine.... so I told the car home took what I wanted out of it and junked it.
Old School SMA!! Loved this vid, Eric.

Mower man is at it again!
I’d spray that with rust reformer before installing.
I did a very similar job on a couple rusty worn out priuses during the scamdemic. Guy I knew got them from a dodgy taxi company for delivering Amazon parcels. Only one needed a battery and one of them needed an engine. Bro could not get anything else for a reasonable price or anyone else to work on them. 2 of them are still running. A third got written off in a crash. You would be surprised how much you can stuff in one of these. They are good on fuel in traffic.
Great job Eric. You have the magic touch which makes it look easy. 😂

We grew up in Ohio but moved to Tampa Bay Fl in the 80's .My Brother dealt with rotted out northern vehicles ..He became a Sheriff in Florida for 28 years .He always got pissed off of how the State puts down a corrosion material that rots your car away yet you as the owner of that vehicle is punished with the rot and inspections ..He always said the State should have to pay some kind of compilation for the Stuff they put on the roads that rots your vehicles
I have been impressed by the bolts on that vintage of toyota vehicles. It seems like the plating is good enough to outlast the parts they go into and I've only had to deal with a couple broken bolts on my vehicles.
