- Опубликовано: 13 май 2024
- It's time to get this Prius finished up and on the alignment rack so we can get it back to the customer. In this video we finish up the brake lines and get the sub frame put back where it belongs.
-Enjoy!

The best part of doing brake lines is when your hands are up in the air, you cut the line, brake fluid hits your arm and runs all the way into your armpit!
good it went there lol
@@Mcgiever100 There was language that wouldn't be fit for the SMA channel!
Almost feels warm 🙄
takes care of any extra armpit overspray
Much better doing brake lines over fuel lines
You are watching one of the best mechanics in the U.S. and maybe one of the best on the globe folks!
"Just use common sense"...something so rare it's almost a super power. I was rewatch8ng part 1, then 2 in the living room when my wife came... she didn't once suggest putting something else on...that's a damn high compliment.
Hit the brackets with wd40 they're pop right of
Common sense is kinda like common courtesy these days. It's actually uncommon!
Common sense on the endangered species list.
@@leecarroll1817 Nowadays I call it uncommon sense.
I must admit that the owner of this vehicle seems to care about his car a lot more than most of your customers. A refreshing change I reckon.
Thank you, sir. My intentions were to make sure it can stop and to avoid wasting Mr., Eric's time with bending some break lines.
@@98XC1 you sir are a gentleman, we fellow Prius owners salute you !
@@98XC1 So was this car ever sprayed or treated with any kind of rust prevention?
No. It was purchased new in 2010 by late mother in law and spent an entire life in the salt bath of Rochester,NY. Was only started to be washed weekly during winters in the last 1-2 year when wife prohibited dad from driving it in favor of Volvo XC60 with all safety features person might need.
After SMA deemed Prius worth fixing, I decided to Krown treat it which was done yesterday. (Still think that next spring SMA will recommend rear crossmember replacement, so maybe I will able to finance another video for us) @calholli

I named my cat Luna after her! 😂

I’m 66 years old and if I could go back in time I would immerse myself in automotive knowledge as you have. Although not glamorous it must be greatly satisfying to be an automotive rockstar.
That wouldn’t work for me. I just don’t have the knack for this work. I enjoy watching others do it, but I always get too dirty for what little I do, I sweat profusely, crack my knuckles against hard surfaces when wrench let’s go, gouge my skin, get nasty debris in my eyes (once got a metal splinter in my eye - went to doctor 3 days later and he said it’s good I didn’t wait too much longer as it was starting to rust!), break anything that can be broken, drop small and critical parts into dark irretrievable crevices or they ricochet across the room, never to be found until I don’t care anymore. Glad to let others do it.
If some people can get satisfaction seeing cysts and pimples pop, I don’t think it’s too weird to enjoy watching procedures done well on automobiles. 😃

Watching you gave me the confidence to change and bleed brakes for the first time. Guess I did it good enough since brakes are nice and firm now. Thanks Mr. O!
I think I've watched do everything but build a new car without any massive failures. You sir, are a credit to our trade. This video is a wonderful example of patience and persistence. Impressive the way you manage to save all those plastic clips while releasing those brke lines. Well done, Eric. I salute you.
I'm a 60+ year old Machinist/Mechanic from the SMA rust belt area. Hardly the Prius demographic... But I love these cars! People that have owned them are very loyal. So if your asking why anyone would spend what will be obviously several 1000 bucks to fix a 15 year old rot box? Because it's worth it!!!
Great video, and a smart trick I learned from a friend and
mechanic. When you are working on the brakes hydrolics,
depress the brakepedal and lock it in place before you start.
That way you block the master cylinder whitch will let no fluid
thru the brakelines. There"ll be next to no spilled brakefluid
on the ground. Works great:)
I'm kinda jealous of lawn mower man's lawn and I've never even seen it. It must be immaculate.
My mower is a corded one. Very quiet.
probably the worst lawn in the whole area. over-mowed, scalped short and endless chemicals trying to fix it. 🤣
You have my respect. I wouldn't want to do that again for five years, yet you have three more jobs lined up. Hope they pay what it's worth.
"Rust in your britches"... I hear ya Eric, I hear ya. Super fast Eric has none though. Great video.
I don't care about editing and flow.any video is good .I watch them all.
As usual, detailed where it should be and skipped where it don't matter. Another great video!!!
Be thankful. That rust and the mice are bringing in the work that pays the bills.
Just the idea of seeing a rusted bucket gives me the chills you handle that like the pro you are
Another Masterclass !!! Prius Thunder !!!
Almost 900,000 subscribers appreciate you Eric for posting videos like this keep grinding young man keep grinding
Two bolts & Both this Nutzzz lol love it every time.
It’s always a learning experience for me. I’m what I believe to be a pretty good DIY mechanic and keep our small fleet operating, but the little hints, comments and suggestions that you leave throughout your videos are so valuable if one pays attention. Thank you!
In Arizona I had to add “Ironite” to my yard to keep it green.
People’s Republic Of New York has vehicles spreading iron oxide everywhere they go.
I highly enjoy sweeping up rust dust from my car after I work on it, knowing that I’m gonna end up with better fuel economy from all that weight my car lost!!! God I hate ny
The acid rain up there and the winter road salt must be wicked. I've never seen such fast and aggressive oxidation.
@@user-ut6ji8my2h I think the new car dealerships have a contract with the state road maintenance dept to really lay down the salt whenever possible.
33:53 I really like the format that Lock Picking Lawyer uses to title his videos. Each one starts with a number, so he can suggest to go reference video [956] and it's really easy to go find the video he's referring to later regardless of what else is in the video title.
And the whole job only cost about what 3 car payments would cost. Well worth the price to get 4 or 5 more years out of a paid off car.
About 15 years ago, I brought my Jimmy in for a rear break line. The shop (butcher) just cut off the old line and ran a new line down the middle of the truck. Right over the gas tank and never even zip tied it to anything. The thing rattled over every bump. They never remove the old line and while they were there. They knocked the vacuum hose off my vacuum reservoir for my HVAC mode door, so all I had was floor.
There is no doubt that 'Lawn Mower Man' across the street cuts his lawn every three hours . . . just to tick off you and your subscribers, Eric!
I was thinking this was the first lawnmower backing track of 2024.
No, not true, be sorry for this poor soul ! imagine being so lacking in imagination, that all you can think of for something to do to get attention, is to mow the lawn again, in the vain hope that somebody cares what you do...
He might be timing it to coincide with Eric's noise just so it's over and done with quickly.
Sounds like fun with back to back subframe jobs. Take an ice cream break first. Then celebrate with another i.c. break.
Man your getting darn good at the air hammer impersonation.
I appreciate the time you take to make the video on top of being swamp with work! Brake lines don't look fun with the brake fluid dripping on your hands and wiggle them in where they have to go.
Gotta say, of all your vids, these past 2 have been my favs by far.
Eric, I don't envy you, having to work on these rusty vehicles. That's why, you make the big bucks!
Please record the Outback subframe. I LOVE these subframe videos. I spent one year of my life as an inspector on the GM Oldsmobile Final Assembly line, inspecting the left front wheel assemble: upper A-frame, lower A-frame, sway bar, upper ball joint, lower ball joint, steering link, and axle nut. It is a delight to me to see how different car engineers solve the _same_ problem. These designs do the same thing but look so different.
You sir are a master mechanic! Just because you can do it does not mean we can do it!!! You are going to get some DIYer in trouble....lmao Keep up the great work!!!!
Good time to paint the underside with Rustoleum Rust Reformer.
Just replaced all brake lines of 02 F150 with pre-bent ss lines. Removing them from plastic clips can be frustrating. Saw a video "The Original Mechanic"where he used heat gun to warm plastic clips and they became softer and uncliped without breaking! It works!!
So thankful from a car aspect that I live in the South, I had no clue that the rust did so much damage so quickly!
Excellent video. Can't wait for the next sub frame👍 👍
I've been watching your videos for a long time now and I'm lived in Florida my whole. Life I just cannot imagine Having to replace a car every few years. Our car's just don't rust we haven't pretty good.
glad you're busy. keep 'em coming!
We need Honest Mechanies like you in the world,i sure hope you can use those Splash Guards i sent you for a 2000 Toyota,i hope you had a good laugh at the way i sent them to you.
This was a great series Eric. I have worked on a bunch of these for friends of mine. Once you worked on one of these Toyota car platforms from this era they are all mostly the same. They always seem to rot out near the rear axle mounts where the fuel pump is. I have actually shot blasted and epoxied a couple of these that had bad patches but were low mileage including my own.
You make it look like a breeze. Much harder on the ground. 😂
watching him try and remove those line brackets gives me the Heebie-jeebies
We love you Dr O.
Another great video. I was waiting for this part 2. Thanks!
One thing I have discovered about Fluid Film is your hands stay in better shape. Oh yeah, my dog loves me when I use it. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for posting this excellent video. It reminds me of another video posted by Car Care Nut (a Toyota specialist in the Chicago area.) He did a battery replacement and some additional work on an older Prius. It was so interesting to watch. I think most of the car interior had to be removed. I had no idea how much equipment goes into the interior of a car, to make it nice and comfy.
We have a guy here in Fulton Missouri who sells Prius' and he has one he uses for a loner that has 800,000 miles on it. Most people don't know that the little engine in the Prius isn't connected to the drive train at all. The powerful electric motor(s) do it all with the help of the battery. The engine charges the battery.
Very good job Mr. O. Hope the customer appreciates the repair work.
You make this look so easy. Really nice!
Looks like a simple job! If you do it, that is.
Well, patience is a virtue and you're about the most virtuous guy I know of...😁
I wuz kinda holdin my breath when you were on the torque wrench around the sub frame...they must make some pretty strong rust these days 😏
Anywho, it's interesting how much of the underside of this Prius had relatively "new" lookin metal and parts and other areas were in such skanky shape.
Oh well, another "virtuoso" performance...keep em comin my brother....🤗
Really fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
So relaxing to watch someone else do the work. 😁
Thanks for the video Eric.
I saw a prius at the local wreckers a while back.. thought to myself.. "Yep, won't be long before this becomes a tree, right here in the middle of the row of cars..."
You have a LOT of patience. Commendable
Luna, fix complete. Thank you for the video
You can only do what you can. Still worth the watch.

Thank you for another great video. Cheers
Thanks for watching!
When I have to do brake lines I dread going into the job but while I'm doing it things go along. I don't have much luck getting the brake lines off the wheel cylinders or the bleeders loose and that makes the job tough. Brake fluid on the hands isn't great either. I've never done factory pre bend lines and have just found the copper/nickel lines. I hope I never do a sub frame on anything. Thanks for the video again Mr. O. Always interesting and informative.
29:20 "Make sure that you get up inside the subframe wherever you can. Spritz her down up inside all of its holes" I think I've still got 2-3 red fluid film straws floating around in my front subframe after doing that 😂 Ended up buying a super long straw (ShopStraw FS250) so I don't lose anymore up there
DU-MOST aerosol spray can extension straw works the best.
@@donniev8181 I remember buying some random brand off amazon and it didn't fit my fluid film cans, i'll check that one out though, thanks
@@donniev8181 Interesting, I'll check it out, thanks. I remember buying a similar product in the past, but it didn't fit my fluid film cans. My stock fluid film can nozzles have a hard straw that sticks down about 1/4" into the can, and the one I got before didn't have that
Nice rusty job, glad you didn’t get any rust in your eyes !
Eric, you're turnin' rust! Oh wait that's those Texas guys, Oops! You're "dealing" with rust! That's a different trip. Always makes me glad to live in New Mexico-the no rust capitol. Congrats as you prevail once again! Cheers!

Having a break at the moment...a bit of lunch then I'm off back up to the garage and changing the brake lines on my VW LT35 van...the originals from 'factree'...so far so good....as I watch Eric 'O' doing brake jobs...mainly!!
crazy stuff. i just looked on ebay and new subframes are available for $216! who knew? glad i'm not in the rustbelt, especially prny!
for motor cycles you have one way valves for break lines bleeding. I use them for cars so can do it alone. nice check valve.
