I can watch your videos now and understand EVERY WORD but somehow can’t sign every word yet 🤦♀️ Im excited to say im taking my final year or two of ASL currently and hope to be fluent enough to interpret by then. You guys have been such a huge help since I started classes four years ago, thank you!! Y’all rock 🤟
That is often the case with any new language. It is often easier to understand when someone else speaks (or signs) than when you have to do it yourself. Probably something to do with being able to understand some of what is being said to the point that your brain fills in the gaps automatically, but actually speaking (or signing) requires you to be fluent enough to know all of the words in the sentence you want to say
People are always asking long term couples when they'll have children. I'm sure you guys will if and when you want and be amazing parents but you 2 + Java are a perfectly rounded family. There is such a peace with you 3 👫🐾.
I'm so amazed that Java jumped off that cliff and didn't get hurt at all. She's a strong girl. Congratulations on your engagement too.

I like to go hiking at some times and I do like going camping with my friends and i usually go to places when we camp!

That was a nice hike! Java was having fun...she was smiling the whole time! She looks like one of my doggies...miss my doggies 🥺
But Watchung Java makes me happy. The bee was probably attracted to your petfume(if u wore some) or even to your shampoo. They follow me too...I even had one get stuck in my hair and another stung my finger. Still have lingering nerve pain and its been 7 yrs 😣

I used to sign okay but I have lost practice. Now I'm dating a deaf guy and I wanna learn more for him. He has the cochlear but I wanna communicate better when he has to charge it. These videos help

I would take the bee incident as a reminder to always try and stay calm no matter the situation. A fast change of emotions mixed with running is definitely going to trigger the dog. Glad no one got hurt and at the very least you guys got a good memory out of it.

These videos are great receptivity practice! I have two deaf kids. They both have cochlear implants, but go to a school for the deaf, so they're learning ASL too. I'm trying to keep up with their ASL, but I'm failing at that so far 😕

Oh noooo I love the eating part! Can't believe you guys cut it out. It's like my favourite part of your vids when you guys just go out, do stuffs, eat. I really enjoy it because I'd never go out and find cool places to eat interesting food.
If you Do sports and long hikes with Java maybe the fido pro airlift is something useful for you. It's a rescue bag for dogs that get injured. :)

Java’s the true MVP. Side note: (not to worry you or anything it’s probably fine) but dogs have really high pain tolerance as in nature the weaker dogs are picked off so even if they’re hurt they won’t show signs of pain. However, you said you checked Java and she seemed to have no hindrance to her mobility so she should be fine, however if you notice a negative change in behavior such as fatigue or irritability you should probably get her checked out by a vet. Again, she’s probably fine I just wanted to let you know :)

although movies' do exaggerate how fast animals can run and how far they can jump in reality they can do it animals really are amazing creatures and much like us humans the healthier and stronger they are the more they can do now that being said it's still really impressive how well Java handled the jump and the landing while barely even stumbling and you guys have an awesome hiking trail in your area we don't have anything quite like that where I'm at (within reasonable distance that is)

Been bingeing your videos because I haven't been caught up in a while and I got curious on signing for left handed people. I never thought about right/left hand dominance in signing until I saw Ryan flexing his new watch. I see Ryan wearing his watch on his right wrist, is he left handed? Is ASL a right hand dominate language? I've seen you two signing mostly with your right hands, but do people sign with their left hand? And does that throw off the flow of understanding?
I know this is an older comment, but I have an answer. I’m just learning ASL, but I have several deaf friends who are fluent, and one is left handed. Basically, any signs where you only move one hand, you’ll typically use your dominant hand. So left handed people usually sign mirror-image to right handed people. That said, like with spoken language, no two people sign exactly the same, and people don’t always use their dominant hand all the time. It’s never caused any confusion or difficulty understanding that I’ve seen. In fact, I can understand my left handed friend better than anyone else because her signing style is slower and clearer.
One interesting thing I’ve noticed with my friend is that she sometimes switches hands when she sings. She’s in a deaf church choir, and all the choir members copy the leader so that they’re signing together. The choir leader is right handed, so sometimes my friend will copy exactly and sign right handed, but most of the time, she’ll mirror the leader and sign left handed.

When you fingerspell long words like "chimichurri", do you spell every single letter, or do you abbreviate it to something like CHMCH so that it's understandable in context but won't take forever to sign?
hmm we tend to spell out the whole word but I've seen some people abbreviate.

i have a quick question about Java (this isnt meant to send any hate, i'm just curious)
seems like y'all tend to have her off-leash a lot, and since she's a deaf dog im wondering if y'all have any way to re-call her? usually when owners let their dog go off leash they have a re-call or are required to have one and i'm wondering how that's possible since she's deaf

Is Java deaf? I would have been so freaked out by that big of a jump too. But I have little dogs. 4 little ones. I have a Pomchi (Pomeranian & Chihuahua) a full Pomeranian, a Terrier mix and a Dachshund. Well the last one isn’t exactly mine. He technically belongs to my ex boyfriend but I’ve had him living with me for nearly 4 months (the dog not the ex). LOL! I’m gonna be heart broken when he takes him back. 😕

Is there a way that you could connect with your blind AND deaf friends to create a fully- integrated "hearing" aspect to your videos?
