- Hellboy: The Crooked Man is the latest installment in the Hellboy franchise distributed by Ketchup Entertainment. Take a look at the full trailer unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2024.
From renowned director, writer & producer Brian Taylor (Crank, Happy!) comes Hellboy: The Crooked Man , a film about survival in the face of death.
In the 1950s, Rookie BPRD agent Bobbie Jo Song is tasked with delivering a spider to the BPRD, but must seek Hellboy's help when things go awry. Together, they travel to Appalachia to take on the Crooked Man, who has been sent back to Earth to collect souls for the devil.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is written by original Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, and distributed in the US by Ketchup Entertainment.
The film stars Jack Kesy as Hellboy, Adeline Rudolph as Bobbie Jo Song, and Jefferson White as Tom Ferrel. Other cast includes Leah McNamara as Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcell as Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson as Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale as The Crooked Man.

Why is everyone complaining about the Hellboy design? What stands out to me is the serious tone and the fact that despite a potentially low budget, this movie looks very well made. Excited for this one!

Many movie fans complain about the new Hellboy's story telling format, expecting it to be outlandish like that of Del Toro's, but they do not know that the original comic series were based on demonic and gothic horror of smaller scale, where Hellboy's role is like a version of badass Sherlock Holmes. Therefore, this movie is very true to the core of Dark Horse's comic series.
I'm enjoying the fact it looks like a 2000s horror movie they threw hellboy into, it's oddly fitting. No big world of monsters just a creepy thing in the forest with a red man hunting it

The film can be bad but I’ll watch it first before making that claim. Also the makeup looks essentially the same as the Ron Perlman version just a darker shade of red and minus the eyes. But contacts can be uncomfortable and affect the actors performance. So them not having that might be why.

The reaction to the initial trailer, and people complaining how cheap it looked, reminded me of the initial reactions to the Dredd 2012 trailers. This movie's got that same vibe. Low budget, but pushed to the max.
IDK anything about the actor since I’m so use to Ron Perlman but it’s about damn time that they focus on the dark undertones drenched in mystery and topped with horror instead of light humor and action sequences from start to finish!

The movies have totally confused fans on what Hellboy is supposed to be, not a buff, action star, supposed to be less human looking, more of a thinker, loner, sure hes protective of those he cares about, but isnt a quippy punching machine, Pearlmans version was way less serious, more immature...I liked the movies, but they certainly gave folks the wrong impression of Hellboy and his lore..
Same goes for superman but we will get the classic superman in the James Gunn movie. It won’t be an injustice to superman.

Many people forget that Hellboy comics mostly him and BPRD's hunting supernatural/mystic entities or phenomenon. So this is the lore accurate Hellboy (after the first movie)
The problem was never that this version of Hellboy was going full horror, the problem was that the first trailer was so poorly put together it made it cheap looking. This trailer is better in every way.
The complaints are a great way to determine who has and hasn't read the comics.

Well its because now nearly all horror movies star teens/college kids or women as protagonists. When was the last time you ever saw a man leading a horror movie? An older male character will obviously try to put up a bigger fight.

This is an excellent return to form for hellboy. He regularly faced supernatural entities that couldn't be beaten by brute force. And this movies dark tone really fits Mignolias vision for the comics.
I’m gonna go into this with an open mind. The director seems like a big fan. Sometimes these types of films can surprise you.

Honestly this style of filming would've been better as a tv show instead like episode 1 and/or 2 would be like: the crooked man, and then next episodes would be about other supernatural/mythological deities and monsters. You know expand more from the comics and whatnot.

too be honest this looks like a fan film but I’m still going to see this movie.
Wish studios would do more of this with the comic book characters. Give us genre content. Tell a compelling story. Would probably cost less to make and result in a better movie.
There are two types of Hellboy fans: the Hellboy comic book fans and the Del Toro's Hellboy fans, those are two different hellboys IMO (dunno about the David Harbour movie, haven't seen it because it looks kinda like Del Toro's version), I'm one of the first ones and this movie is the first one that looks like the comic books, so I'm excited about this.

Hard trying to match what those first two movies did. This need slightly higher budget and a different casting director.
Well of course, the first 2 are fan fiction and are hellboy in name alone… the third was all over the place, but this one has the creator more involved to actually do it right this time… he’s supposed to have the bored plumber feel, he doesn’t always do the save the world thing, hellboy is pretty much just a plumber/exterminator of supernatural pests
