The funniest nita strauss story ive ever read was that when she got the alice cooper gig she didnt know how to solo over “im eighteen” (aka didnt know how to play a pentatonic based solo) so someone had to sit down with her and guide her
@@James-hh1lq Without this being a competition, @IW Jung is right. Paul Gilbert has been recording MANY blues and fast heavy metal albums, for decades now. Again: Without this being a competition, of any kind, he´s at a particular good situation here. Mostly, because a couple of his albums are completly Zappa influenced (like I Can Destroy, etc.), 4 or 5 are old school blues-rock records (like Behold Electric Guitar, Raw Blues Power, etc.), and he has been shredding, in speed-metal style, for 3 or 4 decades now (with all his Racer X and Mr Big stuff). He is, more than any other guitar player on this stage, exploring all kinds of genres and techniques. But they´re all amazing, with their own strengths, personal style, and cool guitar tricks of their own.
man the polyphia guys are just out of place here wow. I personally think they are amazing guitar players and they found their own unique voice but wow they were just unlucky I guess. being put next to these legends and asked to play on a zappa tune which is wildly different from what they're accustomed to
To be fair...it's not their thing, or any improvised soloing for that matter, if you don't practice it, you simply can't do it...Blues is a different type of language, no matter how technical you are, you will go back to zero learning it's nuances and other subtleties..Satch, PG snd Vai can do this in their sleep...Nita was ok, but nothing to be proud of.. she was all over the place with her bad timing and occasional off key phrasing...
I remember watching a video John petrucci with tosin abasi jammin' But Tosin can't get a strong bend with attitude and he just do the mindless shred. You're correct brother, blues is about the feel. Don't get me wrong I love Djent and these new modern progressive movement. But I bet vai, joe, paul can do prog if they want to. Just saying haha
Not fair to the Polyphia kids. They own their music style, I don´t think they grew listening (and being influenced by) this guitar heroes. Besides the fact that Joe, Steve and Paul have twice their age, they have been playing this tune (an other similar ones) for ages!
Tim did fine actually - the long haired one struggled with a few bum bends but had some decent moments. We don't know what the situation was there either - maybe they couldn't hear themselves properly.
@@quix99 im just telling the truth dude, did you not watch them, it was painful to watch, and im not saying that im good as them, im just saying what my eyes and ears perceive
Ronald Montilla how can you not play like yourself? It was fine. I wish gilbert had as many bars as satch to play. Hes hands down the best on that stage. Im a HUGE vai fan, but paul is just truly insane
not really sure why the polyphia lads are getting all the hate, they're bad for sure but strauss' solo is guitar store trash. *expensive* guitar store trash, but guitar store trash nonetheless
As great of a technical player these Polyphia kids are...I think it was a mistake putting them there, they sounded like total beginners throwing in a bunch of incoherent Hail Mary blues licks hoping it will come out good...Martin Miller deserved a spot or even Andy Timmons
Music's not a competition.
But man....Paul Gilbert's solo.
Fuc**n' incredible.
Joe always with "supreme" Quality

I enjoyed everybody's playing on this. My favorite soloing was by the guy playing the PRS. ALL of the others did well.
Joe bluesing like a master
😍
what is the name of the tune here?
My guitar wants to kill your mama, its a old frank zappa song
Weird seeing that the best tone came from PRS...
Bruh, they forgot how the intro went at the beginning. 😁
Joe owned it.
yeah holy shit he knows exactly what to play when he's soloing with minimal backing
@@abdelrahmankhaled8239 True story.. :)
@@krzysztofolejnik158 he's gonna drop a new album soon too the new single is an awesome tribute to the 80s
Paul Gilbert has an advantage over everyone here on this style of music...massive shredder but versatile in many genres
Never understood why music is a competition. Irs not sport!!!
I agree totally.

Abdo Khaled Definitely they didn’t look as great guitar players :(
@@l3wisgtr their songs are awesome check out their latest albums
The Polyphia kid had to follow PG's amazing solo. Can't really blame him, he was probably very nervous after hearing that.
Отлично!
Thanks for this video!!!
Steve Vai does Look Like 60 as he is But damn Joe Satriani Looks young Like 20 Years ago And he is 4 Years older than Steve 😟
Satch :)

Hallo Steve Vai can you please a play the Gold new Model play in Love Jimi the Rat
Rip to polyphia:(
Those polyphia kids showed what youtube lessons can and can't do for you lol.
They tried so hard to incorporate their style of playing to the song and its a fail.
Ronald Montilla jesus christ please stop. Why arent you on that stage then?
