Where do you see this technology going in the future? 👇🏼
lol, also to be honest is could be used if the military wanted to have a safe transportation without any glass exposed from enemy fire power sooooooo…
This would be nice for my daily commute so that I can better navigate the plethora of insanely bad drivers.
special ops
Tanks
Sticks & stones... can you eat it?
Windowless military vehicles would look insane from the outside. But as you mentioned if the cameras are destroyed there needs to be a backup of sorts.
its an evolving technology
@@JokeswithMitochondria i was curious about ur username so cIicked on ur profiIe. Wasn't disappointed lmao
that backup would be the classic hatch open TC & driver. these sort of systems are intended to bring other crew members into the situational awareness world and also allow better night fighting capabilities
And I bet most non-nerds don't know where the periscopes are on existing tanks anyway
If the system goes down we have a backup. We call them windows.
Blue screen of death!
Windows in a tank ?
@@sunnyverghese8232 welp there are viewing ports in tank
@@yatharthsharma-bo5hg don’t think you can compare a port hole or a periscope a window ….
@@sunnyverghese8232 first of all mark was talking about cars you took it to tanks.
The applications for this technology are limitless! Firefighting, law enforcement, mining, aviation, commercial construction etc.
Great video Sam I thought of this as the land version of the f35 helmet 😂
Also reminded of the F35 helmet, imagine how much more advanced that one is.
I drove an APC Warrior in the British Army. Once i was (battened down) fully enclosed driving at night the night sights failed, drove right into a tree 🤣🤣... Also one driver had his sights shot out in Iraq and had to drive with commands from the the vehicle commander. This is thankfully trained early on.. to be able to drive without seeing anything thru the drivers sights.
Jeez, reading this brings some flashbacks... I did my conscription driving a 2S1 SPG and the day before our night driving exercise I had desk duty during the night... at the point when we started driving I had been awoke some 20hrs with 4 hours of sleep or something like that, then you slap on a soviet night sight from the 70s... that fish eye lens was horrible and I think that experience will never leave me lol
This looks really interesting and promising. I was wondering since I use my windshield wipers to clean of water and grime is there anything similar to that for the cameras?
Awesome video! Very cool to see the technology we have come to.
Awesome Video! Really cool to see the technology to come in the future can't wait
night vision in this for stealth driving in combat... craaazzzzyyyy
Lovely work Sam, and a great guest.
Another great video, and I think you asked some really good questions. Very interesting!
This is the type of scifi tech they had in the 2009 Movie Daywalkers movie,(min the headset it was displayed in front of him with 3 screens) I always thought it was pretty neat idea its cool to see it into the real world working.
That's some pretty sweet tech
Tank crews would kill for this. F-35 like HMD & DAS for ground vehicles. I was thinking of this for years...
Your channel is amazing
Doing terrain mapping 3D (not on this shown.Version) solves for the terrain changes. It’s a matter of mapping layers, which layers are displayed. A version can also plug in ground penetrating radar to detect buried metal objects or more dense objects along with shaper/pattern Recog to predict what it is ie ied.
This is a plus and play type system so whatever device is compatible, it can read and display the layer. IR, microwaves, radiation, and just about anything in the spectrum can be displayed as a layer. Coupled with the weapons targeting system, this system can clear path in auto mode.
This would be great for modern tank drivers and also who ever aims the berrel
This looks much simpler than the F-35 helmet, but it was interesting to hear how the land imperfections actually cause a bigger challenge with ground vehicle use; I didn't think about that. I am also curious how much this system costs. It's probably nowhere near as expensive as the F-35 helmet, especially since it doesn't look like it needs to be custom made for each driver.
I'd be more curious about the lack of depth perception that anything else.
Cameras and NV/thermal slights already exist on many armoured vehicles, but they're as a supplement to physical windows typically.
The system supports stereoscopic vision
Those H1 Hummers are just classic
I wonder how did you recorded exactly what you saw from these glasses/headset. Very cool video!
Mega ship control would be incredible with this set up. But the number of cameras to integrate would be huge. Awesome stuff. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
If anyone on here has ever driven a F-550 down a dozer line on a wildland fire, you know how helpful this would be! It would definitely save on stabilizers and oil pans! Same for LHD’s underground, very cool technology!
That's amazing sam!
Another amazing video Sam! I love when new technology ideas are put into use in the real world! It would also be cool to see this technology used in some space travel application, for example, an astronaut inside the space ship could wear this headset and get a 360 view of the space shuttle while travelling to the moon or Mars.
I would imagine that the cameras could be integrated into the body of an armored vehicle at time of manufacturing which would give them better protection as well as the ability to mount more cameras on the vehicle. I am exotropic and do not have binocular vision or depth perception and so I do not get nausea related to vision issues. On the other hand I have to manually compensate for depth perception which sometimes in very difficult especially at night. I can see in the future cameras being mounted on soldier's helmets as well as from other sources that could project an image on their helmet visor such as pin pointing out where the enemy is in order to prevent friendly fire.
Wow Absolutely amazing Sam bro thanks for your ❤❤❤
Just wondering if that thing is 6dof or only 3dof, if its only 3 that can get very headache enducing very fast
They all seem so fun which would you do
SAM...that's a no brainer..."Where do you see this technology going"....I see it going direct to the 'Eckholm Creation Station - Mobile Division' 🚆
Another awesome vid Sam, always on the cutting edge. You should check out the I/ITSEC conference in Nov in Orlando - military tech maxed. 😎
Amazing!
Semi trucks gona go crazy bro
This is something useful! ❤
Call me crazy, but I bet eventually we will develop the technology to detect and destroy very small incoming projectiles, such as small arms fire. I'm thinking of something similar to existing missile defense systems, only on a much, much smaller scale. If you could incorporate that into a vehicle equipped with this technology you would then be able to specifically protect the cameras thus eliminating the need for windows entirely!
This technology is really cool and I can't wait to see all the applications it will be used for in the future!
This is going to be amazing for tanks I could see it now
Dude left the Airforce
2:16 hey thats the I17 in Phoenix going under the tracks around Thomas RD. This must be drom the honeywell location off the 101 around 51st ave or the location off the I17 & Utopia test track or
you are living my dream life sam
This could improve rearview mirrors in sports cars.
can we use these with vr headsets?
Let me try to recaption this:"How it's like to have Captain Jean-Luc Picard as your windowless driving instructor "
Next time space force hahahaha 😂like your videos ❤
360 degrees of vision and no blind spots would be revolutionary. But it could be difficult to keep the cameras in good condition when in the middle of a battlefield.
Good job
I’ve never been this early (and I’m aware it’s a few days but usually it’s weeks)
Our tank using this now
I really wanna be a pilot for the military
My man Sam change his camera view from driver cam to hood cam 😅
pretty sure they had this tech on the f22 raptor back in 2005
Now can this technology be integrated with the Army New IVAS goggle?
Ngl looks promising for safety and unammed operations, or sim training
Sam, im swedish and ur name does it have swedish roots? Ekholm is very scandinavian
Love it
And what happens when the sensors stop working, have a "glitch" or are damaged during combat...
And what happens when you the sensors work and you actually have a significant tech advantage? Lol.
So if you're in a blinded armoured vehicle, with no windows, this system is pretty useless if the enemy decides to take it the cameras...
Thats a tech youtuber type thing
The Honeywell hummer is the best name the military didn’t use, besides the B1R
You didn't happen to ask them when their DIY kit for personal vehicles will be out on the hardware store shelves, did you?
Haha I will ask
Imagine getting stopped for tint but the windows are all blacked out instead lol
I think Apple are going to try this with Vision Pro and Project Titan.
New experince 🎖
Looks like a robocop! And what happened to your signature black shirt & pants? Change is good.
Woww owsomeeee
Hey Sam big fan
Israeli company Elbit has developed an "Ironvision" system.
But I’m stuck on black hawk ch/mh and ah-64
HI SAM ,, GREAT Q. LOOKS GREAT FUN !!! >MY SON MAX 8 YR.S NOTICED YOUR CHIN STRAP ON THE RIGHT SIDE WAS TWISTED HE SAID OOOH NO ,, FIX IT .. I SAD YA ,, I WONDER 4:33 ,,,, THE LEFT SIDE IS OK.../??? 5:02 THEY FIXED THE STRAP....THE FUTURE.. THANKS...
Haha yah I fixed it after awhile
I have the strangest Déjà vu
I drove with NVGs in Afghanistan theres no depth perception a 3ft hole looks no different than a cliff
i love the idea of this outside of military applications. submarines, spacecraft and even rescue could benefit from it
If you think about it, a destroyed camera is like a destroyed window. If their made of the same materials, i would rather have a broken camera and be backing away in a fully armoured vehicle than losing a window and potentially vulnerable.
can you drive this thing at night?
On the one hand, i dont wanna support more defense contractors and the military industrial complex, but on the other i dont wanna piss hineywell off and have them deactivate my AIR conditioner.
On a side note, i bet itd be cool to have HUD displays in F1. Like having a perfect line or braking point overlaid in their visor
Don't mess with the U.S. military. They have all the latest tech and a bottomless pit of funding for projects like these.
Cant wait put it into formula E .Lets maximum the speed😆
Its all fun and games until theyshoot the cameras
They coulda used this in bird box
I wonder if we'll be able to do this with a normal vr headset and hook it up to a tesla 💀
Hi Sam how you doing today!
Pretty good! Yourself?
@@SamEckholm I’m good nice vid btw
This makes me think of f35
So basically the F-35 Headset just on land vehicles?
Does it cost $500,000 like the F-35 system.
I'm pretty sure the F-35 helmet can do WAY more than this can, but it definitely has some of the same visual functionality.
Camera wise yes but there is a lot more to the F-35 helmet then just the camera Tech
@@brianv1988 Yeah because the first thing that came to mind when he was talking about the camera's capability was the similarities between the F-35 helmet and what he demonstrated.
@@owenkester6427 yup it's very interesting to see first hand hopefully we can see what it's like from the eyes of a F-35 pilot
Its all fun and games until you hit a big bump and then you can't see anything.
Put helmet on look up look down you have just finished the tutorial you are now ready that seems so easy anybody can do it
where is @MKBHD
W
These conversations seem so ridiculously scripted.
"graceful degredation"
Yessir
Tanks might benefit from this, but this wouldn't be practical for most of the stuff. An even less practical for civilian vehicles.
I have manage to a blueprint of this Honeywell aerospace from insider it’s amazing
Whoever holds the patent on this is going to be richer than Elon Musk!!! And smarter too!!! Great work Sam! You're such an awesome patron for our defense and our technological development. And your vibrant personality is awesome for our social progress. Thanks for all of your dedication and hard work.
How
❤❤❤👍👍👍
Wowm
All he did was steal this idea from the movie "Deja Vu" with Denzel Washington
