Firing is not that dramatic inside but definitely spectacular from outside. I've spent years living inside of M270A1 (double barrel version) The M270A1's gunner's panel is located in the middle so I could do all the gunner things from the driver's seat. So we ran 2 men crew not 3 men (we were undermanned during the operation but the crews were experienced enough to run all positions)

My friends and I met some West Point Cadets when we were Skiing in Vermont. Some of them wanted to go into the Artillery and this explains why.

I am curious if there are any nicknames for the gun crew positions, or slang used for their positions or for the rockets or other slang terms used in the MLRS artillery world. I like to learn the lingo used by soldiers in the field, whether humorous or fun or salty or "dark humor" slang etc. please let me know of any you heard. Thanks for your service.

I am certain that the name "Himars" originated when an employee launched the rocket for the first time, and someone screamed, "Holy smokes, that one ascended incredibly high!", then another person chimed in saying, "It could even say 'hi' to Mars!" then someone responded, "That's a fantastic name right there-Himars!"

every-time they shoot one, it must be, in taxes, more than i pay in a year.
when I wasin 15years ago, training rockets were 40k per rocket. live one's were 100k per rocket. when we had howitzers we could fire hundreds of rounds a year. when we switched to rockets we could only fire 12 rockets per year. budgets....

@@farzana6676 It was Trump that signed the treaty with the Taliban to cut and run, and it was Trump who reduced the troops from 15,000 to less than 2500 when he left office over the objections and advice of his own military. Trump, as part of the deal, released 5000 Taliban soldiers from prison. By the time Biden was in office, the Taliban had a amassed 70,000 in the country and had overtaken most roads and installed checkpoints. They literally had most of the major cities encircled. The extended deadline to leave was fast approaching, and if the US wasn't going to leave, Biden would have had to surge 10s of thousands of troops into the country to deal with a Taliban assault. He did the only sensible thing, abide by the treaty agreement Trump signed and complete the pullout Trump had already begun.
Now, most of this will fall flat, because Trump supporters apparently live in a bubble and don't actually look at what Trump actually did in office, unless Fox news is bragging about it.

withdrawal of their remaining forces from Afghanistan within 14 months following the
announcement of this joint declaration and the U.S.-Taliban agreement, and will withdraw all
their forces from remaining bases, subject to the Taliban’s fulfillment of its commitments under
the U.S.-Taliban agreement."
When Trump signed this deal, many policy analysts said it was a sweet giveaway to the Taliban because it contained no "trust but verify" and no enforcement mechanisms to make sure they kept up their side of the deal, and hence they violated it almost immediately.
It was rushed, because Trump wanted to take credit for ending the Afghan war before he left office, and the clusterfsck that followed is not just Biden's fault, but BOTH of their faults.

Poland has just ordered 500(!) of these things: more than currently exist in the world.
Difference between HIMARS and Russia ORHAN(Hurricane ) is that HIMARS error is about 1-2 meters. Meaning 1 rocket can kill its target, while the Russian counterpart is not accurate at all, so they need to spend a whole barrage to kill one target( if they hit ).

Australia is buying quite a few of the Himars systems and the improved PrSM.
The PrSM will have a warhead that can target moving naval ships and moving land targets.
I also hear they were thinking about a ramjet powered PrSM with a range of about 1000km.
I must admit the seats and interior of the truck could be updated and cleaned up a bit.
But overall an excellent concept that works extremely well.

After the success against Russia, pretty much every country wants the HIMARS right now. Before Russia's invasion folks didn't really think about the HIMARS too much; after all, it is just a lighter, more mobile variant of the MLRS that has only a single pod of rockets instead of two. But then Russia was kind enough to demonstrate to the world how effective a light rocket artillery truck can be on a modern battlefield where mobility is key.
@@azurblueknights HIMARS is a good overall design and very easy to transport.
The future growth potential of the system is impressive as l have pointed out elsewhere. The new versions of the PrSM are being tested and should be put into service in the coming decade.
A smart move by the Australian government, being on a massive island the system makes perfect sense for our unique requirements.
A ramjet version would work well for Australia. Naval defense is their forte
