How Missile System Works | ATACMS MLRS

  • This is ATACMS missile and is basically a Solid Fuel rocket propulsion system.
The Missiles ascend post-launch using GPS for course adjustment; their fins move per visuals, directed by inertial navigation or military-grade GPS to hit designated targets; upon impact, the sensor triggers a 500-pound TNT blast, capable of bunker destruction.
Interestingly they can be operated from both platforms the HIMARS or the track version MLRS.
This requires a platform to transport with this Galaxy C-5 aircraft.
We will also look at the step-by-step process of how this works

There is a big mistake in this video. You compared a supersonic ballistic missile ATACMS to a subsonic cruise missile Kh-101. The russian equivalent of ATACMS is Iskander or Kinjal not Kh-101. That's a big mistake. The US equivalent of Kh-101 or Stormshadow are others cruise missile like Tomahawk, all are subsonic.

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

Focusing on the velocity of atacms vs storm shadow implies one is better than the other just because of speed. Ther speed of storm shadow isn't lower because it's worse, that speed was a deliberate decision to maximize range and ability to avoid anti air defenses.

Air breathing targets (MIG29, etc.) have lots of surface area and many things that dislike having holes (even small ones) punched in them. So a SAM that gets close and detonates a fragmentation warhead works well.
A missile has fewer sensitive areas so is much harder to destroy. Punch a hole in the empty motor case and who cares?
PAC3 and THAAD use hit to kill for this reason. Trickier to pull off but very effective.

Im still shocked we dont have any stealth missile. I bet we do and they are TOP SECRET. Another thing id love to see as a commander is a two stage bunker buster upon 500 feet from target the second stage would launch accelerating a pre detonation warhead prior to the main warheads impact for a delayed one two punch on a singular impact point. That would be devastating and effective.

    • @zeroinfinity9189
      @zeroinfinity9189 5 месяцев назад

I'm pretty sure the AGM-158C LRASM is a stealth missile used by the Navy and Air force against ships, Lockheed is trying to explore integrating it with the Himars for the Army but the Army is mainly focusing on the PrSM. Maybe in the future, we might see a sub type of it that can fit the Himars and its bigger brother, M270.

It makes no sense to compare the speed of a ballistic missile to a cruise missile like storm shadow.

Let's remind that the C-5 Galaxy heavy military transport aircraft has an adjustable landing gear suspension, allowing it to get closer to the ground (usually the airbase tarmac) to deploy the fore and aft cargo ramps more efficiently.

The russians are not stupid enough to bring an expensive system like S400 so close to the battlefield. In addition, the S400 can shoot aerial targets from 200 to almost 350 Kms away. There is no need to bring them so close

Thank you so much for this awesome job and accuracy in briefing but with all my respect to you you just confirm to me that this missiles and missile system is just piece of junk and totally waste of time money and worthless even more this missiles are just propaganda nothing more Russia 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺 winning the war
Let us be realistic let us made a little Comparison between the Turkish cruise missiles som and those missiles we will found that the Turkish cruise missiles are 1000.000 % advanced and more accurate and reliable and much better than those American missiles Turkish missiles operate via the map coordinate system, meaning information of the targetand coordinates are entered at Air base before launching the attack and Strike The Turkish missiles do not need any external operator or assistant, such as satellites, to locate and hit the target, unlike American missiles
2.These missiles and their presence in the Ukrainian-Russian war expose American national security to a grave danger if Russia feels that the United States of America is using its satellites Against it. Russia has the right to defend itself against these satellites. Russia has the full ability to launch another star war, worse than the star wars that took place during the Reagan era, and here Russia can destroy and strike every American satellite or European Russia was also harmed by a military branch of the Red Army specializing in space
